Frozen broad beans and frozen baby sweetcorn are nice.

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 07/03/2012 21:42

Bleurgh... the only, and I mean only acceptable frozen veg is peas. Any thing else is utterly foul Grin

SarahStratton · 07/03/2012 21:42

Frozen broccoli is brilliant.

Frozen carrots are crap.

tardisjumper · 07/03/2012 21:44

you need to steam it for 2-3 mins. You didn't boil it did you?

BoomOoYattaTaTa · 07/03/2012 21:49

And frozen sprouts have a part time job as light artillery.

YankNCock · 07/03/2012 21:51

That is so odd, just yesterday I was thinking of starting a thread asking why frozen broccoli always tastes so crap, and if anyone had a method that made it less so!

Frozen carrots, also crap. Peas and sweetcorn ok.

So steaming is what I need to do?

Frozen spinach works in some things, but I still prefer fresh.

HavePatience · 07/03/2012 21:52

Frozen spinach and soya beans are nice but broccoli, I agree is gross frozen. Fresh tenderstem is delightful, though! :)

madaboutmadmen · 07/03/2012 21:55

GOPPING! love it! Grin

DilysPrice · 07/03/2012 21:57

I feed frozen broccoli to my DCs because they do not realise that it is rank. Personally I wouldn't touch the stuff, but they wolf it down.
Should I be smug or guilty about that? Confused

Yama · 07/03/2012 21:59

I only sling frozen veg into sauces. Kids eat it so it can't be that bad.

What I am miffed about at the moment is that I can't get frozen cabbage anywhere. Frozen cabbage even works in a stir fry.

RachelHRD · 07/03/2012 22:14

Waitrose essntial frozen broccoli is quite naice Grin ................

Frozen broccoli is horrible on it's own but fine as an ingredient in say a broccoli and stilton soup.

Moln · 07/03/2012 23:00

What the heck does "Gopping" mean

randommoment · 07/03/2012 23:02

I second Waitrose for frozen broccoli. But it has to be steamed or microwaved, otherwise becomes indistinguishable from spinach.

randommoment · 07/03/2012 23:02

And Tesco peas are pants compared with Waitrose too.

storytopper · 07/03/2012 23:04

Yup - YANBU - frozen broccoli is rank. Always mushy and deformed.

Petis pois, sweetcorn and whole green beans are fine.

Moln · 07/03/2012 23:07

My frozen broccoli doesn't go mushy and deformed

I demand a Supreme Frozen Broccoli Cooker Certificate

AnnoyingOrange · 07/03/2012 23:11

Freezing broccoli destroys the cell structure so it goes mushy when it's thawed

Tinned carrots are the devil's own work. I hated them as a toddler and still do. That's a loooooong time. I would never dream of even trying them frozen.

Peas, spinach, broad beans, green beans and cauliflower are ok frozen if you are bunging them in something else (eg soup or curry) but not up to scratch to serve in their own right. So, YANBU!
