...think their views and beliefs should take precedence over anyone else's?

OP posts:
Pandemoniaa · 07/03/2012 17:04

That's as silly a generalisation as the one that suggests all Christians wish to do similarly.

fotheringhay · 07/03/2012 17:05

I just don't understand this desire to start a fight Confused

LeeCoakley · 07/03/2012 17:08

TBH, as an atheist, I don't give a shit about what anyone else thinks or believes. I just don't want the default (i.e. Christianity) being fed subliminally at school to children . And, specifically, my children.

hiddenhome · 07/03/2012 17:09

Don't worry LeeCoakley they won't end up brainwashed.

LeeCoakley · 07/03/2012 17:12

That's what they want you to think....

madhairday · 07/03/2012 17:13

YABU, although undoubtedly YANBU in some cases, but isn't that the same with everyone everywhere, whatever religion/lack of?

Oh...can't be bothered. What's this all about seeker?

FunnysInTheGarden · 07/03/2012 17:14

oh I thought it was going to be 'AIBU to think that Christians...............shouldn't be thrown to the lions'. How very dissapointing. I was going to say YANBU

ViviPru · 07/03/2012 17:16

Is this the original? Or did this all start with mince rinsers?

oldmum42 · 07/03/2012 17:21

LeeCoakley - think of that little bit of school religion as an inoculation against developing the full-blown disease. None of my children is in the least but religious despite re all through school.

LeeCoakley · 07/03/2012 17:27

It just gets my hackles rising....

Thanks seeker. Thanks for the hackles.

seeker · 07/03/2012 17:36

"OhChristFENTON The OP is legendary for starting up this kind of thread. Hence why it hasn't turned nasty already, the regular MNers are onto it !"

Am I? I really don't think I am! Or my memory is even worse than I thought it was!

Instant legend, that's you Seeker.

You could easily say the same about atheists though seeker

seeker · 07/03/2012 18:43

Feminists don't have an official and automatic say in law and policy making. Sadly

OP posts:
seeker · 07/03/2012 18:43

Neither do atheists.

OP posts:
mumofjust1 · 07/03/2012 18:43

Yes yabu

I'm a Christian but honestly don't think my beliefs are any better than anyone elses/any other religions.

Becaroooo · 07/03/2012 18:47

Neither do christains IMO....Perhaps in the US, yes.

I think some people use religion as a tool/weapon to get their own agenda across/listened to without actually having any faith/belief to speak of.

Its called being a hypocrite! Smile

madhairday · 07/03/2012 18:53

I do, mumofjust1.

But I don't think I'm any better, or that my views and beliefs should take precedence over anyone else's. Isn't in the spirit of the belief, and all that.

However....what's the point of believing in something so seemingly bonkers as Christianity if you don't believe in it to the extent of being convinced that it is the way to freedom for all? If I'm going to believe in something and say meh, I don't think my beliefs are any different to any others, then I may as well just give it up and start quoting Dawkins at people and hanging out with SGB Grin

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/03/2012 18:55

YABU - but I think you are probably enjoying the responses Hmm

seeker · 07/03/2012 18:56

Don't they? There are bishops in the House of Lords. It's the because of the Christian lobby that scientific advances like stem cell research are being held up. The Christian lobby informs abortion policy. There is no such thing as a secular school in this country.....

And that's just for starters.

ArielNonBio · 07/03/2012 18:57

YABU

It is easier to be an atheist than a prastising Christian.
