15 year old DS has recently gotten very, very heavily into music (as they do). A while ago I told him he could borrow anything he liked from my CD collection, which was met with a rather pitying "yeah, right" kind of look.

Today, he comes home with a list of 10 albums his rock dude mate at school has recommended. I ask what they are and am told "nothing you've ever heard of".

I pick up the list, have a read, walk straight to my CD rack and pick up six of the albums. (Well, one was different album, same group).

HA !!!!!!! Grin

So, AIBU for walking around with a knowing smirk on my face?

(Disclaimer: I do realise that anyone who describes themselves as "cool", "hip" and "with-it" is generally nothing of the kind, and needs to get themselves back to the 80s).

Oh I am cool then. Excellent.

CrockoDuck · 05/03/2012 18:16

Oh...and Linkin Park.

Think he already knew I had The Beatles, just hadn't realised (till know all mate told him) that they were worth listening to.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 05/03/2012 18:20

There is nothing wrong with gotten - you've used it entirely correctly.

Brits don't usually use it, but it's widely accepted by Amerians, Australians and New Zealanders, and probably other English-speakers. People just as entitled to use the English language as Brits. Wink

Oh, and YANBU!

CrockoDuck · 05/03/2012 18:21

I have all of those, yay me.
Most of my favourite music is still from the 90's - Carter, Sultans of Ping, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Bluetones, Pulp. I do love the fact that when some utterly bizarre songs come on the radio that dd can sing along much to the amusement of anyone else travelling with us :)

OriginalJamie · 05/03/2012 18:23

IamBooyhoo

When your first purchase was a single of I love You Love" by Gary Glitter, then you will know the meaning of embarrassment ......

Moln · 05/03/2012 18:23

Oooh

Kaiser Chiefs - Check!
Nirvana - Check!
Radiohead - Check!
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Check!
Green Day - Check!

Woo hoo!! I'm cool and hip too Grin

What where the other albums on the list I might be super cool...

Moln · 05/03/2012 18:25

SquishyCinnamonSwirls I was reminiscing the other day listening to Ned Atomic Dustbin on you tube

I know yooff that are dead jealous I was their ages in the 90s

OriginalJamie · 05/03/2012 18:26

I went to see a NADs gig at some campus University whose name I have forgotten, 1991. Loud, as I recall

IAmBooyhoo · 05/03/2012 18:28

Grin @ originaljamie. i have never heard that song.

LittleWhiteWolf · 05/03/2012 18:30

I will always maintain that the first song my DD ever danced to (at about 2 months old, lying on a blanket) was AC/DC Back in Black. It is a love of music I intend to nuture. Grin

You are well cool OP. Except for the Kaiser Chiefs and RHCP albums. They're rubbish and samey gavel

OriginalJamie · 05/03/2012 18:32

No, and I don't suppose you know, the Theme to Snow White Horses, (2nd purchase), or The Pinky and Perky Album (3rd purchase) Grin

msbossy · 05/03/2012 18:33

Yay, I'm cool too (well, DH is!). I doubt very much that DD will ever ask if she can borrow Wilson Phillips or Five Star on cassette Blush

OriginalJamie · 05/03/2012 18:33

PLEASE DON'T CLICK on the above if you can't stomach Gary Glitter

OriginalJamie · 05/03/2012 18:34

I know there's pain
Why do you lock yourself up in these chains?

msbossy . Respect

PearsBeaufort · 05/03/2012 18:34

Walk away.

HappyHippyChick · 05/03/2012 18:38

You want embarrassing first purchases? Try "Nothings gonna change my love for you" by Glen Madeiros (sp?) on for size Blush

My dad told me at the time that if I bought it I would always regret it - and I do!

HappyHippyChick · 05/03/2012 18:40

But I do have albums (more than one in several cases) by all the aforementioned cool bands, so hopefully that will redeem me a little :)

HappyHippyChick · 05/03/2012 18:41

Ooh msbossy that Wilson Phillips album is awesome!
