AIBU to think if you are offered beans on toast, the beans should actually be on the toast?

DH has just made me beans on toast for lunch. However when he presented me with my plate I was shocked to see the beans on the plate, with the toast next to it! Surely that is just plain wrong isn't it? DH thinks IABU and it makes no difference, but my bread was dry, with no bean juice to soak into it. I am right aren't I? Should I leave the bastard? Grin

Surely everyone knows that you put the cheese on the toast and then the beans on top. Sso the toast still says crispy and the cheese melts into the bean juice.

winefairy · 05/03/2012 14:56

Leave him. This is classic passive-aggressive behaviour, OP. He is trying to undermine your choice to have bean juice soaked bread. The bastard.

OTheHugeManatee · 05/03/2012 14:56

I'm with you, idontknow. Cheesely beans on toast is the food of the gods Grin

flossiebella · 05/03/2012 15:00

YANBU.

I had this argument discussion with my friend recently. She felt that putting beans next to the toast was OK cause her mum likes beans and toast but doesn't like her toast going soggy. I said she should say for beans AND toast not beans ON toast because otherwise it was misleading. We compromised that unless you were certain you should serve the beans in a bowl with the toast on a plate do that people could serve them as they see fit.

LiamsMummyJaz · 05/03/2012 15:01

Oh me gee!! My beans on toast isn't on the plate long enough for the bread go soggy!! Grin

Beans ON toast all the way Smile

MrsMumf · 05/03/2012 15:01

Beans ON toast. Clue is in the name. YANBU - he has gone mad.

chipmunksex · 05/03/2012 15:09

I like beans on my toast, but dc like theirs 'on the side'.

I think on the side is the safest option, as in sausage and mash and gravy-in a little jug, not smothered all over or apple crumble and custard likewise 'on the side'.

What arrogance is it to assume everyone likes the same quantity of sauce on things

YABU baked beans are the vilest food stuff ever shouldn't even be allowed in the house on the plate. This thread is actually making me feel sick....

BreconBeBuggered · 05/03/2012 15:17

Hardly anyone is focusing on the more pertinent question of whether the toast should be buttered first. Beans can always be piled onto bare toast. Soggifying butter cannot be removed. Bleurgh.

TotemPole · 05/03/2012 15:17

Definitely on the toast for me and on the side for the DC. With some lovely tomato ketchup.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2012 15:18

Beans always go on the toast followed by a mountain of cheddar cheese and then grilled

so it's a bit pile of wet, cheesy, beany loveliness.

RuleBritannia · 05/03/2012 15:18

I don't like cooked beans. Just straight from the tin - but on a plate, of course, with some salad.

feralgirl · 05/03/2012 15:19

YES Maryz. That is a very sophisticated way to eat beans and toast. I like the poncey tapasy vibe to doing it that way.

Snapespeare · 05/03/2012 15:26

idontknow bacon on beans on cheese on toast.

nickelhasababy · 05/03/2012 15:28

butter on toast, beans on top.

dh gets it slightly wrong by putting the half slices either end of the full slice, instead of perpendicular. and then wonder why they don't fit on the plate. Hmm

eurochick · 05/03/2012 15:30

Beans should go next to the toast so they don't make it all soggy.

CalamityKate · 05/03/2012 15:47

Bleugh to soggy toast.

Beans... scrambled egg... fried egg... whatever, it should be BESIDE the toast. Not on.

Nagoo · 05/03/2012 15:52

It should be 'beans and toast' Grin

soggy bean juicy toast Envy

You could easily tuck your toast under for a bit. There is no way to rescue it once the beans have begun their assault though, is there?

GladysLeap · 05/03/2012 15:53

How nice to find some normal people amongst these replies Grin

I have my beans by my toast, as do my mum and my db. DH thinks it's weird.

EduStudent · 05/03/2012 15:54

YANBU, there's a café round here that does this.

It's not what I ordered Angry I wanted Beans on Toast, not Beans by Toast.

LotsOfGoodFunThatIsFunny · 05/03/2012 17:06

Beans on toast Envy all soggy food is really really awful and makes me feel sick just thinking about it! That also includes weetabix, sponge in triffle and wet sandwiches!

marshmallowpies · 05/03/2012 17:08

Soggy bread = EVIL. (See also: French onion soup with bread on top, bread and butter pudding, summer pudding).

So the toast always has to go on the edge of the plate and beans in the middle for me.

shewhowines · 05/03/2012 17:48

Baked bean etiquette -

Beans on toast - emphasis on the on

The rest of you are heathens.

McHappyPants2012 · 05/03/2012 17:50
