AIBU to think if you are offered beans on toast, the beans should actually be on the toast?

DH has just made me beans on toast for lunch. However when he presented me with my plate I was shocked to see the beans on the plate, with the toast next to it! Surely that is just plain wrong isn't it? DH thinks IABU and it makes no difference, but my bread was dry, with no bean juice to soak into it. I am right aren't I? Should I leave the bastard? Grin

I hate soggy bean juice bread so I also put the toast next to the beans. I cut a piece of toast, scoop some beans on it and eat it just like beans on toast but the bread isn't horrible and soggy.

So yes you ABU!!

MissPenteuth · 05/03/2012 14:03

YANBU. But I have heard that some weirdos people don't like their bread to go soggy with bean juice, so they keep the beans and toast separate.

In conclusion: yes, leave the bastard.

ObiWan · 05/03/2012 14:03

You are technically NBU if you were offered beans on toast.

The idea of beans actually touching any other foodstuff horrifies me to the point where I'd be unable to eat any of it though.

Bean juice - eeewww!

BupcakesandCunting · 05/03/2012 14:04

Can you get to a Refuge?

YouChangeWithTheWeather · 05/03/2012 14:04

Soggy toast Confused No, beans on the side until ready to consume. Same for scrambled egg.

Seona1973 · 05/03/2012 14:05

i put beans in the middle of the plate and the toast round the outside (each slice cut in half)

hazchem · 05/03/2012 14:06

I can't stand my beans being served on the same plate I have my beans served in a small dish so the toast doesn't get wet.

TreacleSoda · 05/03/2012 14:09

was there butter on the bread though? that would make a difference......totally dry toast needs the beans on top, but if the bread is buttered, then on the side is fine.

DH wanted to leave me on Saturday because I served his beans on the toast instead of beside. Its the sort of domestic situation that no person should have to tolerate, he said....

JustAddWine · 05/03/2012 14:09

Ah, he made you lunch. How sweet! Grin

But beans next to toast? Angry WTAF? Leave him!

valiumredhead · 05/03/2012 14:10

I think you seriously need to give thought to how far this relationship can go. Leave the bastard

Aribura · 05/03/2012 14:11

YABVVVVU, gag! I didn't even realise people enjoyed disgusting soggy toast until I went to university and realised beans ON toast was supposed to be literal.

HeadfirstForHalos · 05/03/2012 14:11

I hate soggy bean juicy toast, I do the same as Lightofthemoon

imnotmymum · 05/03/2012 14:12

This is abuse leave right now the beans should be on the toast that why it is called beans on toast ...did he do you a fried egg

LittleAlbert · 05/03/2012 14:14

Is that you, two year old DD?

MateyMooo · 05/03/2012 14:16

yep my dd has beans and toast, wont touch beans on toast, she is offended by the touchingofthefood!

FrozenPetisPois · 05/03/2012 14:22

YADNBU
The whole point of beans on toast is so the bean juice soaks through onto the bread.. the beans are just an extra Grin

Aribura · 05/03/2012 14:38

^ but if you dip in the juice instead of make the bread swim in it, the bread stays beautiful and crispy instead of slimy and yucky.

Notinmykitchen · 05/03/2012 14:40

Exactly Frozen, it's just not the same without the toast going soggy. There was butter on the toast but it needs to mix with the bean juice for the full effectSmile

sassymcnassy · 05/03/2012 14:40

One slice covered in the beans, one slice left on the side...best of both.

You know I'm right!

agreetodisagree · 05/03/2012 14:45

I personally like my beans on my toast but I will make toast triangles and spoon the beans in the middle and put the triangles around to make a sunshine.
This is as close as I get to makung an efort for my DD although I can sometimes push to a sausage/tomato/mushroom smiley face. Smile Like this but with sausag Grin

ATD

agreetodisagree · 05/03/2012 14:47

making effort sausage Blush

Agincourt · 05/03/2012 14:48

I think you should leave the bastard

OTheHugeManatee · 05/03/2012 14:49

Leave the bastard.

Joking apart, opinion is divided on soggy bean-soaked sludge-formerly-known-as-toast so your DH was probably just protecting his nadgers wife by erring on the side of caution Grin

Bunsouttheoven · 05/03/2012 14:52

Beans must NEVER go on toast. Fact.
