..to think it's nigh on impossible to go through IKEA without arguing with one's OH/DH/DP?

Gah!!
We haven't even made it through the list-making stage without a bicker! (He buggered up my carefully crafted list instead of making his own...THE BASTARD!)

YANBU. I'm totally non-violent, however, always come out of Ikea feeling the urge to punch someone.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 04/03/2012 06:01

YANBU. The whole area the end where you retrieve the stuff from the mahoosively tall shelves is teeming with one halves of couples storming off, and people pointedly not talking to each other.

They have to put the restaurant at the entrance rather than the exit, or they'd get no business.

ThisIsANickname · 04/03/2012 06:06

I love Ikea. I don't think I've ever bickered with my OH while in there.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 04/03/2012 06:14

YABU. We dump DD1 in the pit ball, we might try to dump DD2 too (she is just tall enough even if only just 2, the not talking might give her away).
Then we can have a stroll and eat meatballs. Go early in the morning it is deserted (well for Ikea). Grin
we both love it and it is the only place where DH can find the Kalle's caviar of his childhood

DaffodilsAhoy · 04/03/2012 06:20

I can see my dh's mouth seize up into the cats bum shape as we drive into the car park. He will only come with me now if we have a specified item to locate and purchase. Absolutely NO BROWSING allowed. Generally I go with lovely friends instead.

Chubfuddler · 04/03/2012 06:22

We love ikea. We are quite practised performance artist bickerers but strangely never there. I go all Scandinavian and chilled and make believe I live in a large lateral flat.

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 06:25

we are like a well oiled machine in Ikea. i can't say we love going there, but we have a system and get it done without bickering. but then we don't really argue about anything much.

jan2011 · 04/03/2012 06:41

yanbu. argue every time with dh, have great time with mum!

Kayzr · 04/03/2012 06:51

I love going to Ikea and never bicker with DP.

CailinDana · 04/03/2012 06:55

We go to Ikea for a day out Blush

BountyCack · 04/03/2012 06:57

YANBU.

I will only go to Ikea on my own because DH keeps saying "Ignore the arrows, I bet we can cut through here" and so we end up going around and around the same section like a Hanna Barbara cartoon, with DH refusing to admit that it's not working...

Yes there are 2 shortcuts in our nearest Ikea, and yes, possibly there might be a couple more, but trying to cheat the system always takes longer.

Just let me walk through the goddamn bits and bobs section, DH. You know I'm going to anyway.

Tee2072 · 04/03/2012 06:57

This is why I go by myself!

I also kick him out of the house when I put together the furniture I have bought.

Chubfuddler · 04/03/2012 06:58

We do too cailin. Dont be ashamed.

mrsmellow · 04/03/2012 07:01

I love IKEA, we love IKEA - oh the joy of buying strange light decorations you don't need and more of those big glasses... you can never have enough! And not buying the strangely compelling pictures that have adorned every rental flat in London I have ever looked at... and meatballs.

But, I have a strange melt-down in the car park - too much going on - but we don't argue - DH is very supportive and we have been known to stop, swap drivers and let him park while I keep my eyes closed. To explain how strange this is - I am normally the 'park person' in our relationship- I'm much better at it and quite enjoy it - it is simply an IKEA carpark phenomenon - I love other carparks- even the airport....I think it is because we usually get lost trying to get into IKEA (Croydon, London) - you can see it from miles away and then you drive around it for quite a long time trying to find your way in, just circling around... We just don't go often enough to remember the secret way in from last time.

mrsmellow · 04/03/2012 07:03

bountycrack my DH insists that we don't skip any section (and I'm hardly putting up a fight) "in case we miss anything"
I love being married to him, but occasionally worry we're too similar in our IKEA outlook Wink

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 04/03/2012 07:11

don't take DH

simples Grin

[mentalnotetoselfemotiontoremembernottotakeDHafterlasttimeaaarrrggghhh]

BountyCack · 04/03/2012 07:11

mrsmellow he sounds very sensible.

My DH would be happier if I just entered via one route, picked up the 2 things on my list, and then retraced my steps out again. However the tills are all at the very end of the arrows, so this would be shoplifting.

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 04/03/2012 07:20

My dh hasn't made it past the lighting section in a good mood ever, tgat takes him to his shipping limit. Wish we could start from the other end so I could get a proper lok at the plants, pictures and frames with him.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 04/03/2012 07:21

Daffs, with us, it's him that wants to browse, whilst I just want to get straight down to the warehouse bit, make our purchases and get the hell out.

What am I saying - I now live in a country without an Ikea, and basically, well, 'all is forgiven'. I'd kill for an Ikea-induced row. Envy

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 04/03/2012 07:24

I love Ikea. Even the dses who detest shopping felt the awe and sense of occasion when we went while waiting to meet my mum. They didn't want to leaveGrin

Don't get me started on building flat packs though. Dh and I have nearly killed each other many a time! Our latest master stroke was building a tall bed in a small room and then not being able to lift it into an upright position 'cos the room was too smallConfused It was dh's fault, obviouslyGrin

alessthandomesticgoddess · 04/03/2012 07:28

YANBU. At all. DP and I constantly bicker.

Him: ?You don't need that?
Me: ?I want it though?

That's usually the start...

Asinine · 04/03/2012 07:33

We went once, it's three hours away, ds aged 2, had a major tantrum. It was awful, we haven't returned in eight years...

MissTapestry · 04/03/2012 07:34

Well I don't know about ikea (I've never been, am I missing out??) but b&q... Arrrgh!
We used to go in at least once a week while we were doing up the house, and I think we argued about 99% of the time.
We drive past and laugh about it now, but the laughter definitely has a ring of bitterness to it Angry

nomoreheels · 04/03/2012 07:50

Go with a list & measurements unlike the time we bought a bookcase by eyeballing it & had to return the damn thing

Stop for meatballs & apple cake halfway through.

Do not be tempted by useless impulse tat that will add £40 to your bill. Instead, stump up the £25 to get the courier to deliver everything instead of trying to fit 8 ft long flat pack bookcases in your car.

Buy dill pickle crisps & Anna biscuits to eat in the car on the way home.

Never, ever go at weekends

EverythingsNotRosie · 04/03/2012 07:54

Last time we were driving past Lakeside we vaguely thought about going, couldn't find Ikea, had a McDonalds and came home. I always find it when I go with my mum. I will never try to go with DH again!
