A friend told me about a woman she knows who has 3 year old twins and a 2 year old. Her husband works away for long periods of time. She doesn't cook while he's away - the children eat freezer food like fish fingers, chicken nuggets etc and she has ready meals. When he's home he cooks, but when he's away they just eat things from the oven for convenience.

I can't begin to imagine what life is like with 3 under 3 but surely preparing fresh food at least occasionally is important for nutrition and learning about food? I find it really odd and a bit sad.

But Hecs a crap person to judge (no offence Hec Grin)

  1. She is clearly buying the best food her budget will allow, and her fresh will be fresher than others as no car means more frequent supermarket trips
  1. She is at the awful stage where you get velcro baby. They want to up and seeing not passively held

As an aside I do not condone using a sling to cook and neither do the manufacturers.

  1. She has demonstrated constant logical argument for the cost and nutritional value of her food.

The only counter argument to Hecs appears to be "how hard can it be....yada yada stealth boast anecdote"

tantrumsandballoons · 04/03/2012 22:35

really??
Not judgmental?
What the actual fuck is "when mine were babies I carried them in a sling whe doing housework but you say yours won't go in one......"

"I doubt very much frozen food is cheaper" do you know this for a fact??

And btw it wasn't me you are getting at, I'm quite happy for you to question my broccoli chopping parenting skills all day long, it's laughable.

Tmesis wins the thread!

Mummyinamuddle · 04/03/2012 22:35

It's nice to see some kindness, reassurance and understanding coming from an awful OP and some truly shockingly judgmental comments :))))

I never carried babies in a sling while cooking, even though I used a sling all the time when out. Personal decision, and I don't think I feel comfortable with judging anyone who did/does, so I won't.

Hell yeh I'll defend my dc and you don't even do the cooking. Yeh I'm low but you know what you are lower. You are even managing to fall further.

Honeydragon · 04/03/2012 22:43

I think SM is perhaps pointing out the wry amusement of a large group of exasperated fools banging their heads on a keyboard trying to point out that in RL you provide what you can.

Hec, your just the same as the rest of us. Oh and if you really want cheering up as ScottishMummy her opinion on BabyWearing.....it'll deffo make you feel better about the sling comment Grin

I was so pleased when my dd could go in a walker - it made doing anything easier as she was so amused my her self propulsion Grin Prior to that cooking was a nightmare to juggle. The inventor of walkers and stair gates saved my sanity.

Oh god, walkers are a sin arnt they?

scottishmummy · 04/03/2012 22:47

haha at all the is youse saying I'm bad mutha
fucking hell
getting all how v dare you about who eats most broccoli
yes just to clarify I sure as he'll am laughing at the disproportionate ire and offense taken

priceless

Honeydragon · 04/03/2012 22:47

^^^Hec...what Maryz said

TheBigJessie · 04/03/2012 22:47

You know, this thread went far, far from what I expected. When I pointed out that generalizing about frozen food would include plain frozen vegetables, I expected Marianne to issue a clarification, and to explain she had just been typing quickly, and hadn't meant her post literally.

Instead, she confirmed she had a vendetta against frozen broccoli, and that it was not my mere speculation.

Honeydragon · 04/03/2012 22:49

^^^^and what SM said

this would have ended a lot earlier if someone had just said fuck off you silly twit" and we all went off to cook the tea Grin

wigglesrock · 04/03/2012 22:50

fallenpetal yes, I discovered last year they are akin to buying precut vegetables Grin but don't take my word for it, I only realised last week that buying pancake mix = being evil and an exceptionally lax parent, oh and also contributing to the me me me consumer culture of western civilisation.

fallenpetal · 04/03/2012 22:55

Wiggles - I had ready made pancakes! Mum bought a huge packet and a lemon because she knows how busy Tuesdays are ...at least you made yours we microwaved some one elses efforts! LOL!

EverybodysSnowyEyed · 04/03/2012 22:57

we didn't have the pancakes until the Saturday after!

wigglesrock · 04/03/2012 22:59

fallenpetal sssshhh for the love of God, I've only just recovered from my shaming and tbh my husband made them.

TheBigJessie · 04/03/2012 22:59

It's rather an unhappy thread. Hecuba's feelings are hurt and I understand why Sad ; Marianne probably feels backed into a corner and ganged-up on.
