A friend told me about a woman she knows who has 3 year old twins and a 2 year old. Her husband works away for long periods of time. She doesn't cook while he's away - the children eat freezer food like fish fingers, chicken nuggets etc and she has ready meals. When he's home he cooks, but when he's away they just eat things from the oven for convenience.

I can't begin to imagine what life is like with 3 under 3 but surely preparing fresh food at least occasionally is important for nutrition and learning about food? I find it really odd and a bit sad.

Your friend told you about a woman she knows did she?

Youfeed your kids how you see fit, and never mind a woman your friend knows eh?

minimisschief · 04/03/2012 00:40

lmao i take it yuou have never had twins or more. i would imagine it is very exhausting for a paret alone which is why cooking happens when he is back.

besides as a child i grew up on stuff like that. wasnt long ago no one was that obsessed with food

shemademedoit · 04/03/2012 00:40

Well it's not as if the kids are being fed crisps or starved....

WorraLiberty · 04/03/2012 00:41

I couldn't care less to be honest

I love to cook and so does DH but I know not everyone does

As long as they're getting enough nutrition (and you don't know they're not) it's down to them.

Mind your own business .
There are worse things . Read the news.

alessthandomesticgoddess · 04/03/2012 00:42

Frozen vegetables are good for you and some may argue better for you. How do you know she doesn't feed her children that alongside chicken nuggets?

You don't. You don't know anything about this woman and her children.

OldMotherDismass · 04/03/2012 00:43
Hmm

My nearly 4 year old survives on twiglets, hoola hoops, salami and soya yoghurt. This is not my choice btw, but I guess I should also be judged for this too?

YABU. You don't even know the woman.

Small children eating fish fingers and chicken nuggets?? Shock

I'm genuinely horrified.

You're completely right to share it with us.

TheSinglePringle · 04/03/2012 00:45

Well your 'friend' is a very judgemental little thing aint she? I osmetimes feed my son chicken nuggets?! Shock

I find it odd and sad you care so much about someone your 'friend' knows

Have a biscuit Biscuit

ComposHat · 04/03/2012 00:46

I find it really odd and a bit sad.

I find it be none of your fucking business.

Maybe she hates cooking or would rather spend time interacting with her children, than slaving over elaborate meals.

Or maybe she is hard up and needs to feed her kids as cheaply as possible.

Christ almighty where will this middle class food fadism and one upmanship end.

My friend told me about her hairdressers husbands sister-in-law who gave her DD tescos cheesy puffs when she had a friend over to play.

Nobody talks to her now apparently.

Doesn't sound like the best nutritional diet but it's definitely not the worst.

Having 3 kids under three is no walk in the park, she must be bloody knackered so I can't blame her for not wanting to cook! Especially as she's looking after them alone with no help while her partner is away.

Perhaps your friend should offer to help if she's that concerned, I'm sure the woman would welcome a helping hand.

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 04/03/2012 00:52

There are so many things in the world that shock and upset me. This really isn't one of them.

WorraLiberty · 04/03/2012 00:52

Well my friend's cousin's nextdoor neighbour's Uncle's internet lover only feeds her kids ham on white bread.

White bread I ask you???

Aside from the blatant racism it's not even naice ham

I've called the Police (no, not the non emergency) and Social Services and I'm going to sit up all night til I get a conviction.

TheSinglePringle · 04/03/2012 00:52

I'm a little wine eyed zig

lovebeinganana · 04/03/2012 00:52

Oh dear, I share a house with my dd and dgs, I do most of the cooking, at the moment my dgs will only eat snack a jacks, petit filous, chicken or turkey in breadcrumbs no fruit or veg. What happens now firing squad I'm such a terrible parent/grandparent.

lotney · 04/03/2012 00:53

Well to be fair I know of the woman but I don't know her personally IYSWIM. But my friend has a child the same age as her twins so knows this. I think she was more impressed than judgemental though - any judgement is coming from me Blush

I have no idea what it's like to have three very young DC but surely it isn't so hard to mix a bit of pasta and tomatoes together or sling a chicken in the oven?
