Is DD BU or am I?

DD1 (11) is having 2 friends over tomorrow night for a sleepover for her birthday.
I told her that they would be having the beds and she would be on the floor (we only have a 2 bedroom flat so dd1 & dd2 share a room and have bunkbeds. dd2 wont be here. so thats why only 2 beds) she said that wasnt fair as whenever she has slept at a friends they have had the bed and she has been on the floor.
I told her that it is polite that when you have guests they have the bed. that is how i have been brought up. also it is only one night its not going to kill her.
so AIBU or is DD?

yabu, also get a blow up mattress

SydSaid · 02/03/2012 20:54

Just let the girls organise themselves - they are old enough to make decisions for themselves. I always just make sure there are enough blankets, blow up beds/folding beds/normal beds/pillows for the guests and they figure the rest out themselves.

TitchVida · 02/03/2012 20:55

Yeah, blow up mattress is the answer - and I say let them sort it out amongst themselves :)

Tobagostreet · 02/03/2012 20:55

Yabu... It's her birthday! Let her sleep in her bed - maybe the 2 friends can top and tail in the bottom bunk?

Agree with her that most sleepovers consist of the 'guests' sleeping in sleeping bags on top of duvets on the floor.

hurricanewyn · 02/03/2012 20:56

I used to sleep top to toe with my friends if I stayed over/had anyone over and there was a bed shortage. Alternatively, we all slept on the living room floor and watched a rubbish film and stayed awake giggling all night till about 11

Either of these a possibility?

Chubfuddler · 02/03/2012 20:56

Leave them to it. Can guarantee none of them will end the night where they started.

diddl · 02/03/2012 20:56

It´s her birthday-she should get a bed imo.

Kayzr · 02/03/2012 20:57

I think YABU.

I never ever slept on the floor at my own house and always slept on the floor at friends houses.

I'd never make my DC sleep on the floor at our house when they have friends for a sleepover.

Hassled · 02/03/2012 20:57

I think traditionally guests get the floor, which actually makes no sense at all. Don't decide for them - they'll sort it out.

QuickLookBusy · 02/03/2012 20:59

Yabu

My dds always stay in their own beds, guests on a pull out mattress on the floor. If you don't have spare duvets/pillows etc ask guests to bring sleeping bags etc.

DoMeDon · 02/03/2012 21:03

YABU to get involved. Agree with the blow up matress/top and tail suggestions. I remember always being expected to sleep on the floor at my friends houses or top/tailing. I appreciate you're trying to instill good hosting skills but I think it's out of step with the situation.

TheSurgeonsMate · 02/03/2012 21:08

Yanbu at all.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 02/03/2012 21:09

Buy a blow up mattress tomorrow.

YABU, whenever my ds's have sleepovers their friends sleep on the spare and ds's stay in their own bed. They have always slept in the spare when they have stayed with their friends.

wellwisher · 02/03/2012 21:20

YANBU and I can't believe I'm virtually the only person that thinks that! My God, there are a lot of spoilt children out there. Visitors should get the best treatment - but yes, a blow-up mattress would be a good investment.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 02/03/2012 21:23

I always slept on the floor when friends stayed over, guests get the bed. Same in friends houses. I'd be mortally offended if I was asked to a sleepover and made to sleep on the floor at 11!

Chulita · 02/03/2012 21:24

I give up my bed for no man/woman/child and I wouldn't ask my dd to either. I would however make sure that our guest bed was comfy and not a pile of cardboard boxes with a sheet over the top. It's not spoilt to be able to sleep in your own bed at night imo.

mumeeee · 02/03/2012 21:24

YABU. When my DDs had sleep their friends usually slept on the floor.

wantingmore · 02/03/2012 21:25

wow i was not expecting these comments at all. i am really shocked.
wellwisher i agree.

My girl and her mates all make camp beds on the floor with cushions and quilts and stuff...part of the experience apparently

DressDownFriday · 02/03/2012 21:27

Put the 2 mattresses together on the floor - enough room for all 3. (put across rather that length way iyswim).

Problem solved at no extra cost.

KateShmate · 02/03/2012 21:28

I would let them choose themselves - friends might want to sleep on floor, and might hate sleeping on top bunks!
All 3 might even want to sleep on the floor!

DoMeDon · 02/03/2012 21:30

Arf at spoilt! Hysterical.

It is not about spoiling, it is about letting them get on with it and doing what is the norm for DC and their friends.

wantingmore · 02/03/2012 21:31

DressDownFriday this is a good idea but unfortunately there is not enough room to do this

When my dd has a sleepover, no-one wants to sleep on the bed, they all want to sleep on the floow, preferably in the living room so they can watch tv or listen to music late (I'm a cruel mom whose kids don't have tvs in their rooms)
