David Rathband (the police officer blinded by Raol Moat) has been found dead. Of course everyones death is sad but AIBU to feel so sad about this case- he had been through so much and seemed such a brave and amazing guy :(

That is sad :(

roguepixie · 01/03/2012 07:58

I agree. I heard this, this morning on the radio. He obviously struggled hugely to come to terms with what happened to him. To be honest, I feel this is another murder, not a suicide - not that that makes any difference but it's what I feel. Very sad for his family and that he felt this was the best/only course of action.

HomeEcoGnomist · 01/03/2012 08:03

Agreed. Injured in the line of duty, one split second and his whole life changed. It's tragic

mopbucket · 01/03/2012 08:08

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/03/2012 08:12

CaveMum · 01/03/2012 08:16

So very sad Sad

I just hope the sickos that crawled out from under their rocks to support Moat don't do so again.

5inthebed · 01/03/2012 08:18

It is very sad. For him to have to end his life after what he has been through, just tragic.

I had the privilege to meet him once, a true hero.

Saltire · 01/03/2012 08:18

I agree, poor man.

MMQC · 01/03/2012 08:19

I saw this this morning too and was deeply saddened. He had seemed so brave and unbitter about the whole thing when I'd seen him interviewed. I was really touched by his strength, which makes his death now all the more sad.

RIP.

squeakytoy · 01/03/2012 08:21

I havent put the news on yet.. so hadnt seen this. Very very tragic and sad.

Methe · 01/03/2012 08:21

I always think that losing your sight must the most devastating thing to happen :(

CaveMum · 01/03/2012 08:46

My dad has been blind for 20 years, due to a degenerative condition, so I've seen the frustration and depression it causes. I can't begin to comprehend how you cope with losing your sight overnight.

EauDeLaPoisson · 01/03/2012 09:06

I remember when DH thought he was going blind (was his brain tumour that hadnt yet been discovered) and he said the hardest thing to come to terms with would be not seeing his kids growing up, people having to describe the piece of art work they have produced at school, the funky t-shirt they were wearing- his daughters wedding dress etc. I can only how awful a world without sight must be and hope I never have to experience it- how tragic

It is extremely sad and such a waste. I always felt quite inspired by him, e seemed so strong and determined. Of course the reality was he was struggling of course he was. awful for him and for his family, and yes, another pe to add to raoul moats list of lives ruined

CreepyWeeBrackets · 01/03/2012 09:21

I was very moved by his dignity when he met Nick Clegg at the Pride of Britain awards.

Here is a link to his Blue Lamp foundation should anyone wish to donate.

Mrsjay · 01/03/2012 09:24

I had a huge lump in my throat when i saw the news this morning that poor man and his family its all so very sad Sad

porcamiseria · 01/03/2012 09:28

so so so sad, I feel the same. Just shows how his life got royally fucked

really really sad

QuickLookBusy · 01/03/2012 09:31

I agree, it's very sad he has taken his own life.

I remember listening to him in interviews and thinking that he really was not coping. He seemed very very depressed.

I also feel so much for his poor wife and DC. They must be going through absolute hell.

porcamiseria · 01/03/2012 09:32

I have tears in my eyes, such a sad tale. really choked. His poor poor family, and poor him

Mrsjay · 01/03/2012 09:36

yes i keep thinking about it and being choked up , He did so much was so positive yet privately he must have been in turmoil his marraige failed recently its just tragic
, I cant get over how one man (moat) can ruin so many lives ,

QuickLookBusy · 01/03/2012 09:40

Agree Mrsjay.

That excuse for a man has ruined so many peoples' lives. The ripple effects of what he has done will be felt by many people for such a long time. Mums/Dads/children/siblings/best friends/work collegues etc etc.

Birdsgottafly · 01/03/2012 09:55

It is sad.

I only hope that it brings up all of the unanswered questions surrounding the failures on Moat's release from prison.

This didn't have to happen.

FreudianSlipper · 01/03/2012 10:04

it is very very sad :(

i admired his honesty by admitting that he was finding it a real struggle to cope but he was obvioulsy trying hard to get on with his life. his interview on the bbc news last year was very moving
