If it's a one line answer, eg. you can buy those at M & S, OP, then I'm not too bothered. It's more annoying if you pour your heart out over something, and it doesn't get acknowledged at all.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it when others do it but I always come back and say thanks or give an update if I've started a thread. It's common curtesy in my opinion.

Tbh it doesn't bother me at all, the where's the OP?, Oh must be something dodgy if they haven't come come back in the past hour etc, Oh that's not what you typed in your original post etc is the one of the things that irritates me about MN. Sometimes people just start a thread and realise that its not that important anymore, that they have resolved it themselves, or that they are too busy doing something else.

It might be nice to be thanked or shows good manners but I don't find it a huge irritation.
