Sorry it's the Daily Mail. I was going to post the video but the photos are quite horrifying.

Was there not a thread on this yesterday in chat? I really don't agree with it at all, YANBU

hiddenhome · 26/02/2012 21:18

Yes, it's child abuse. It will be painful and risks injuring the child.

People should treat babies/children with respect and care and allow them their dignity. This is just sick. A man was prosecuted last year for swinging a domestic cat around by its tail.

scurryfunge · 26/02/2012 21:18

She's a loon.

susiedaisy · 26/02/2012 21:18

Looks brutal, no way would I have done this to my dc

troisgarcons · 26/02/2012 21:19

Saw that today and it reminded me of the lady who posted - west african origin - and her extended family did this to her new born (CBA to search for the thread)

Sorry, I looked for a thread here but not in chat.

I would object if I saw it being done to an animal, let alone a child Sad

There seems to be a lot of people around these days who treat their kids like toys, not actually sentient beings Hmm

ComposHat · 26/02/2012 21:21

I don't know, but those patterned leggings are an abuse of my corneas.

backwardpossom · 26/02/2012 21:22

It's fucking ridiculous.

Tinkerisdead · 26/02/2012 21:23

Ive got a three week old and that makes me want to throw up to even consider handling my baby like that.

hiddenhome · 26/02/2012 21:24

Perhaps the woman should be tossed out of a helicopter by her ankles and see how she laughs Hmm

It must be some sort of Darwin natural selection process. People like this having babies, then rendering them unable to pass on their faulty genes by permanently injuring them or something Hmm Perhaps the brain damage will render them unable to reproduce. I can't for the life of me understand what else they would be doing it for. Destroying or injuring your own offspring is just brainless. I think hamsters do it if they feel threatened. The normal human instinct is to protect and carefully nurture your children, not treat them like bags of garbage.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 26/02/2012 21:34

Blimey.

muffinflop · 26/02/2012 21:35

OMG that made me feel sick. Why would anyone think that is ok? Vile

StepfordWannabe · 26/02/2012 21:37

Wowza, that's fucked up.

RagamuffinAndFidget · 26/02/2012 21:38

Actually felt a bit sick looking at those photos too muffin. DS2 is nearly seven months old and I wouldn't do this to him! I wouldn't even lob DS1 (nearly 32 months old!) around like this!

slowburner · 26/02/2012 21:41

Just words fail me, intentionally risking a healthy baby's brain is just unspeakable.

rhibutterfly · 26/02/2012 21:45

OMG how has the woman been allowed to get away with this and what SANE parent would let her!!

Tryharder · 26/02/2012 21:49

I haven't been able to click onto the link as I have some weird security setting on my computer that doesn't let me go onto some links. However from the comments that follow particularly about the West African link, I think I can guess what is being talked about.

I lived in The Gambia when I had DS1 and it is considered best practice to massage your baby very, very vigorously and stretch out their limbs by holding them by one leg etc. My SIL did this to my DC1 at least once a week - as I cannot get onto the link, I have no idea if it is the same thing exactly, but the massage did look very rough but I don't remember DC1 crying at all whilst it was being done.

Babies who do not have this massage done to them are considered to look stiff and be uncomfortable. It is considered very, very beneficial to babies and women who can do this (it's a learned skill, not everyone can do it) are well respected.

I know how bad it must look to Western eyes and I have no idea if the massage actually helped DS1 or not. I don't think it hurt him either. To be fair, he wasn't newborn when this was done - more like from 3 months onwards...

Just saying...

GoingForGoalWeight · 26/02/2012 22:04

I do not have the stomach to look at that. Its sick.

nobodyspecial · 26/02/2012 22:04

om goodness...shouldn't of watched that whilst bf-ing my 7 week old...its made me tearful. Poor babies.

RitaMorgan · 26/02/2012 22:08

Tryharder - this woman is holding little babies by an arm or leg and swinging them around, over her head, between her legs etc.
