A couple of nights ago with a few friends we were talking about horror films and how some are going beyond what should be allowed. Normally i love horror films but one was mentioned called "A Serbian Film". This film was shown in cinemas and shows graphically the rape of a new born baby and the graphic anal rape of a 6 year old boy.
AIBU to think that some things should just not be allowed to be shown?

I'm disgusted after reading reviews and seeing many call the film "art".

OP posts:
WelshMoth · 23/02/2012 06:47

Not sure why the OP is getting flamed for this. It makes for upsetting reading and I'm a bit Shock as to who the target audience for this film is. When anything goes out into the public domain, I feel the makers have a moral responsibility for it's content, and the effects it's content could have.

Oh do keep up, this was being wanked over (by those who get wet underwear from their own OUTRAGE and MORAL SUPERIORITY as they scream for censorship) more than a year ago. Really solidgoldbrass? This statement made me shudder, on many levels...

minimisschief · 23/02/2012 07:13

in the horror category it is full of people being brutally graphically murdered. Do people honestly somehow think that is more acceptable than rape scenes lol

solidgoldbrass · 23/02/2012 07:40

I think it's a perfectly clear-cut division: if making the art involves doing actual harm to non-consenting participants then the art-maker should be prosecuted for assault, ABH, whatever. If it's all done with special effects/drawings/written words then either watch it or don't watch it depending on your own preferences.

WelshMoth · 23/02/2012 08:03

Maybe that's the point here - I can't see a clear-cut division.

There's just something inherently wrong about putting this kind of image out there. I feel the same about movies showing graphic violence too but I really balk at the idea of such horrific violence against babies and children, and can't see any justification for it. I question the ethics of parents allowing these children to represent this film-makers 'art' too.

I just can't see the wider ideology here and this isn't about my "OUTRAGE and MORAL SUPERIORITY" either.

porcamiseria · 23/02/2012 08:07

Iits vile vile vile, and yes I also wonder WHO THE FUCKING FUCK would allow their child to even go within pissing distance of the film set

But hey, we live in a bad world where people buy snuff and there exists category 5 child abuse. what can we do? will a thread do owt? NO

ledkr · 23/02/2012 08:14

Unfortunately i dont need to see a film on this subject as ive worked in cp for half my life, now that is truly something to get worked up about.Energy should be put into campaigning for justice foe victims not banning fictional films you dont have to watch.

spiderslegs · 23/02/2012 08:19

Look - outragers - as SGB already said - it was made as a political film & should be seen as thus - watch it or don't watch it - but if you want to get your dander up there are many more misogynistic examples churned out by Hollywood on a weekly basis.

PosiePumblechook · 23/02/2012 08:23

Film is such an emotive medium and some things are just poor taste. I've never wanted to read, watch or hear about child rape...not sure what message any artist has to deliver or what he is like that he feels this is something he should share. Vile vile vile.

PosiePumblechook · 23/02/2012 08:26

Art surely has to have a point?

WelshMoth · 23/02/2012 08:36

"Look - outragers "

Not quite sure why you need to 'term' those that don't like this, spiderslegs"?

CreepyWeeBrackets · 23/02/2012 08:41

I've heard of the film and could also have done without reading your follow-up description.

OP it isn't long since you had your own first baby is it? Following the birth of my DC I suffered from intrusive thoughts connected to horrible real-life events concerning children. It's very common. It might be best if you give the horror films a bit of a wide berth for a while.

LilacWaltz · 23/02/2012 08:41

The others you mentioned are poor taste, they all are, children and others. Why do you watch them and then become outraged?? If they are banned/cert 18 then you know there's going to be offensive material

billybobbity · 23/02/2012 08:41

It's child porn, pure and simple. The UK police should come down on those who distribute and watch it.

I have seen it and wish I hadnt, it gave me nightmares and I dont know what sort of sick mind thought that film up and I cant understand how the actors could have agreed to take part in it, especially the parents of the child actors.

I dont see how its art, I dont see how it relates to the Serbian war etc, it just seemed like some sicko getting his rocks off.

I think it should be buried never to see the light of day, most disturbing thing I have ever seen, I wish I had had the confidence to speak up at the time when it was on but just sat there horrified. Nasty piece of work.

maddening · 23/02/2012 08:50

god I feel sick - never heard of it before but it is incomprehensible that anyone would make that let alone expect it to not be banned

porcamiseria · 23/02/2012 10:03

billybobbity

one thing I learnt here is to NOT call it child "porn". Its child abose on film. the porn links it to something where the actors do have a choice. I think its a minor but important distinction

lilacwaltz -

the sadder issue here is that the film business actively lowers the threshold for 18 cert movies, to make more money. What used to be classed as an 18 cert 10, 15, 20 yrs ago is now a 15 etc.

What worries me more, is this type of film getting into the hands of vulnerable children and young adults and the impact it can have on their state of mind (I also think the same for other gratuitous violence movies/games).

I believe there is a link between watching this type of movie and playing violent PC games and violence in society.

alevelpsychology.co.uk/news/social-psychology/watching-violent-tv-in-childhood-predicts-actual-aggression-and-violence.html

A child or teenager is not going to do back story on the serbian war, they are going to see the movie for what it is. And if by seeing that, they think it is ok to use similar violence against a baby or child, then we as a society have failed. That is fucked up.

I'm not sure whether I'm going to vomit or cry first.

solidgoldbrass · 23/02/2012 14:16

The trouble is with the pro-censorship position is that it's very popular with both stupid people and dangerous ones. Stupid people are easy to rev up into pants-pissing, screaming Something Must Be Done frenzies. Which is what the dangerous people want. Dangerous people don't actually give a flying fuck if someone wants to make films depicting (staged/animated)child abuse in detail; what they want is the power to suppress and control imagery and art of any kind.

flibbertywidget · 23/02/2012 14:19

BeerTricksPotter Hmm

sportsfanatic · 23/02/2012 15:00

Amazing how much garbage film makers can get away with by calling it "art".

WelshMoth · 23/02/2012 15:07

sgb - "stupid people"? I presume you mean those people that care enough about it to raise objections?

What's with all the "pants-pissing" and "wetness" you keep mentioning, too? You're choice of language is distasteful and aggressive.
