to report this person (again) for Benefit Fraud?

A woman who lives near me has been falsely claiming benefits for almost two years. Her partner works full time and earns a lot of money, they have two children, and they most definitely live together. She claims Income Support, Child Tax Credits, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. I know all this because she recently (proudly!!) announced that she had been investigated for Benefit Fraud but 'got away with it'.

Given that I know she's still falsely claiming benefits, and has been doing so for a long time, would I BU to report her to whoever it is one reports these things to?

I don't understand why someone would boast about it. Surely they would keep it quiet to avoid getting caught?

Are you sure of what she is claiming? She could still claim HB , child tax credit if she has a working partner who doesn't earn much.

lesley33 · 23/02/2012 11:21

No it doesn't make sense to boast. But I have heard stupid people boastinga bout benefit fraud myself. Just as I have heard people boasting about committing crimes.

lesley33 · 23/02/2012 11:24

mixedberries - My brother was also wrongly investigated for benefit fraud, so U know how scary it can be to be wrongly accused.

MixedBerries · 23/02/2012 11:44

Yes, I do. And reporting people on a whim is costly and a huge waste of time and resources, including tax payers' money. Having said that, if someone knows for a fact that an other person is a cheat, that other person should be reported. If however, they are making judgements on someone else's lifestyle and finances on very limited knowledge about their actual circumstances, they shouldn't report them.

If people spent more time living there own lives instead of poking their noses in others people's lives the world would be a better place!! Get a hobby or something and leave people alone! if someone's in the wrong they will get caught up with one day. I've just been falsely accused of benefit fraud and the time wasted and stress it causes when no one knows my business! Sad people and obviously haven't got a life!!

EdithWeston · 30/07/2012 06:09

Zombie thread alert.

"Get a hobby or something..."
I can only assume your hobby is poking round old threads.

Thumbwitch · 30/07/2012 06:10

Zombie thread alert!

Thumbwitch · 30/07/2012 06:10

Oops, xposted with you Edith! took me so long to work it out, and I didn't refresh before posting! Blush

GhostShip · 30/07/2012 07:42

YABU. I don't agree with what she's doing but leave her alone.

TheHappyHissy · 30/07/2012 09:41

You want to report, go ahead report, but why come on here to validate your decision?

We don't need to know.

molepom · 30/07/2012 10:21

Depending on how much he earns it doesn't sound as though they are comitting any type of fraud what so ever...if anything, they should be claiming Working tax credits as well.

What you hear, and what they actually have or dont have are usually two totally different things. You have reported them once and they were shown not be comitting any type of fraud...i suggest you get a life of your own and stop looking into other peoples.

molepom · 30/07/2012 10:22

oh bugger...zombie thread.

CecilyP · 30/07/2012 10:24

YANBU. If people are doing this, the least they could do is keep quiet about it rather than broadcast it to all and sundry. OP didn't say this woman was a friend - just a neighbour.

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 30/07/2012 10:34

Yeah, I would. I know a girl from school who does this - claims as a single parent of 4 (and gets a fucking fortune for it Hmm) but her partner actually lives with them. They have two holidays a year to Egypt and the Dominican Repblic for fuck's sake!

usualsuspect · 30/07/2012 10:35

Well Thank you to who ever revived this thread.

The Daily Mail Lot are wetting themselves again now.

DefenceAgainstTheDarkArts · 30/07/2012 10:41

It was Coco1982 - sorry, I didn't notice it was old when I posted! Grin

carycach · 30/07/2012 11:13

Op,think she is yanking your chain!!

carycach · 30/07/2012 11:16

'benefit fraud being deemed the third "most worried about" type of crime in a poll they ran this year.'

does anyone believe this?? I mean people are afraid of being attacked, mugged raped, burgled, drunk driving . Do people really go to bed worrying that Freda Bloggsl down the road might not have told the benefits office that her boyfriend has moved in.

PleaseTakeOffYourJimmyChoos · 30/07/2012 11:46

Coco-while I'm sorry to hear about what happenned to you I find the whole 'get a hobby' 'get a life and keep your nose out of it' very ignorant.
If the ops friend has admitted that she is claiming then why shouldn't the op report it?

Denise34 · 30/07/2012 12:11

Report her. People who commit benefit fraud are disgusting.

Shullbit · 30/07/2012 12:56

Got to laugh at those saying "Get a life/hobby" and many others who obviously hasn't read the OP's posts properly. The OP did not go snooping in anyones life, or partook in any curtain twitching. The neighbour willingly told the OP whilst bragging.

And god forbid anyone actually reports someone they are pretty certain to be guilty of benefit fraud. You know, like we are actually asked to, to help stamp it out. No, they are obviously not helpful, decent, human beings, just nosey fuckers who curtain twitch and need to get a hobby Hmm

But, I do agree. I think the neighbour is testing you to see if it was you who reported her initially.

porcamiseria · 30/07/2012 12:58

grass her again! but think ts not super healthy that you are so fixated...

usualsuspect · 30/07/2012 12:58

Discusting!!!!!

thekidsrule · 30/07/2012 13:01
