and some other chains like Nandos are so bloody popular. What is all the fuss about? I am willing to listen to why IABU and change my mind so why do people love them so much?

Because it IS actually healthy, helloclitty. I never eat in Pizza Hut, Nandos, KFC, whatever because I know that it a. is shite b. tastes like salt and c. is going to give me heart disease.

Wagamamas is healthy and it tastes nice and I know the service is going to be good. If I was in an unfamiliar town and only had 30 minutes to get something to eat, I'd rather go there than risk eating something grim, or have to wait around for hours to be served.

PeneloPeePitstop · 21/02/2012 17:34

Ginger Chicken Udon.
Num.

FredFredGeorge · 21/02/2012 17:34

Wagamama's is awful to me, overpriced with very annoying staff (explaining the menu like you're an idiot). But if you don't mind that, then I don't see why you couldn't enjoy it.

Nando's is just cooked spicy chicken, can't see anything to not understand, it's reasonable value, consistent, not unhealthy, a pretty good choice really.

Haberdashery · 21/02/2012 17:34

Giraffe is bloody horrible, though, especially the children's food.

helloclitty · 21/02/2012 17:36

I just had a quick look at the menu and 7 out the 12 side orders are deep fried and a few of the remainder are items like pork ribs in bbq sauce.

All the Tepan Yaki noodle dishes in the main section are cooked in oil and several of the rice dishes are either deep fried or cooked in coconut cream. None of these dishes are what you would call healthy!

Wagamama's is wank. I can make better noodles. Really don't get the hype.

But if people are happy paying for overpriced food then fair enough. Their choice.

I accept that might be a reason to go but not to get all hyped up about how totally and utterly amazing it is as many people seem to think.

I've never seen a Giraffe restaurant. The menu looks interesting although I tend to be a bit dubious of places that do all sorts of different styles of cooking as they are often jack of all trades, master of none. But if I do see one in my travels I'll give it a try. I just know that my DS would order a burger and my DD the pasta which is a bit dull. Sometimes it's nice to give him no a choice about ordering something they've never tried before.

yellowraincoat · 21/02/2012 17:39

Fat isn't unhealthy though. Salt is unhealthy. Sugar is unhealthy. We NEED fat.

I've never heard anyone say it was utterly amazing. Perhaps they just, you know, really like it.

helloclitty · 21/02/2012 17:39

Chicken Katsu is totally unhealthy and I reckon a big seller, everyone seems to talk about it. Fried Chicken with a sauce that uses coconut cream? Not healthy at all.

OP posts:
helloclitty · 21/02/2012 17:40

We don't need saturated fat in such quanities that a chicken katsu meal would deliver!

Once a week it's not going to be that big a deal though, is it? I have no desire, on the other hand, to eat salt or sugar.

Coconut milk is actually really good for you. Yes it is fatty, but it has a lot of minerals.

Proudnscary · 21/02/2012 17:43

If you have time to dissect and categorise the Wagamama menu into healthy and unhealthy meals, then may I suggest you have a wee bit too much time on your hands?

FredFredGeorge · 21/02/2012 17:43

Wagamama typically has lots of salt in their food? So I'm not sure why people are claiming otherwise?

VivaLeBeaver · 21/02/2012 17:43

There is a wagamamma opening up here and I'm v v excited, I've never been to one.

I love katsu curry. Not sure I'll convince dd to try it though, she likes curry so maybe.

yellowraincoat · 21/02/2012 17:43

I honestly think we should just close down all the Wagamamas.

Shut em down.

helloclitty · 21/02/2012 17:44

Yellowraincoat

Of course it's not going to matter once a week etc but I was merely responding to the numerous claims it's healthy. I think it's marketed as more healthy than it really is. IMO

I like going to Nando's because it is right outside the Chill Factor and the Hallumi and mushroom wrap is great!

yellowraincoat · 21/02/2012 17:47

It tastes healthy. It doesn't taste like salt and MSG. It tastes like actual food I might make at home. It doesn't make me feel bloated and like I need to lie down for a week.

accidentprawn · 21/02/2012 17:47

i love wagamama. not so keen on nandos though.
I really like zizzis but its expensive

catgirl1976 · 21/02/2012 17:47
