To think this must be the worst meal ever.

Dh normally gets home at about 7pm. Dc have already eaten, I'm on a diet so do my own meals and dh cooks for himself.

Last night he came in and made the following:

Mashed potato, tinned tuna, raw onion, brown sauce and baked beans. All mixed together.

It looked like a plate of dogs vomit.

Dh insists this a acceptable meal. So MN jury is it?

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 11:51

If he likes it then it's acceptable to him.

squeakytoy · 21/02/2012 11:51

it sounds vile, but if he likes it, he likes it... and he made it... so whats the problem Grin

I suppose it isnt far off being a tuna fish cake.. if you took the beans out..

BuntyPenfold · 21/02/2012 11:52

I wouldn't be kissing him afterwards

Rachtoteach · 21/02/2012 11:53

It sounds vile but TBH it also sounds like the kind of meal my DH lived off of before he met me! Grin

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 11:53

Bunty Hopefully you wouldn't be kissing him before either...considering he's the OP's DH Grin

Ephiny · 21/02/2012 11:56

Sounds gross to me, but at least he isn't expecting you to eat it!

It probably is a fairly balanced, nutritious meal (carbs, protein, veg etc) when you think about it...

ChooChooWowWow · 21/02/2012 11:57

WorraLiberty Grin

I don't mind what he eats just can't understand why anyone would want to eat that. I did say why didn't he make tuna fishcakes and serve with the beans. So much more acceptable.

Sounds utterly vile.
Will have to check with dh though as he once cooked salmon in red wine with ginger. Luckily I was away at the time.

redrubyshoes · 21/02/2012 12:00

My Dh makes sandwiches out of things like left over lasagne and curry. Your Dh is normal OP Wink

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 12:00

I would eat this, but not with the brown sauce. My dad would have the brown sauce version.

That is the most pointless piece of information I have ever posted on MN.

PeanutButterChocolate · 21/02/2012 12:03

Yuck. Raw onions, you say?

Shanghai- I'm feeling a little bit sick after reading about that salmon dish.

OTheHugeManatee · 21/02/2012 12:04

I wouldn't want to be sharing a lift with your DH for a good 24 hours after eating that Shock

Hullygully · 21/02/2012 12:05

yum apart from ketchup instead of brown and no nasty baked beans.

BalloonSlayer · 21/02/2012 12:12

My stepfather once ate cold sprouts on toast.

He recommended it. "Put hairs on your chest!" I think was the gist of the recommendation.

TheRealMrsHannigan · 21/02/2012 12:14

I think I just vomited a little bit Shock

SecretSquirrel193 · 21/02/2012 12:16

It sounds minging but I think its something you can't knock til you've tried it..

ballroomblitz · 21/02/2012 12:20

Grin my dad cooked something similar when we were younger and mum was in hospital bar the raw onion and brown sauce. Gross. We still keep him going about it.

PickleSarnie · 21/02/2012 12:21

Sounds yummy actually.

Takes me back to the days when my dad had to cook if my mum was out for the night, He would start by frying some onions then add whatever was in the cupboards into it. Beans, corned beef, pasta, tomato soup, tuna, sweetcorn. It looked like vomit but taste sooooooo good.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/02/2012 12:22

DH does exactly that. He doesn't care what he eats as long as the food groups are covered Hmm. One of his most foul concoctions was a scrambled egg, mackerel, green bean and baked bean combo.

Makes me wonder why I stress about cooking nice meals, I ought to just sling it all in a trough...

IDoNotLIKEFun · 21/02/2012 12:30

It reminds me of a ready meal "tuna and sweetcorn cottage pie" that M&S used to do. That had dill sauce and I'd eat it most nights with beans. God it was nice.

I'd definitely brown the onions and use ketchup instead though.

GoingForGoalWeight · 21/02/2012 12:59

VOMITS!

His choice

but...

DOUBLE VOMIT [anvy]

ChooChooWowWow · 21/02/2012 13:08

Pickle that is gross.
Dh says his best childhood meal was something his mum made. They called it Spaghetti Junction and it consisted of:

Tinned tomatoes
Spaghetti (not tinned, the normal stuff)
Baked beans
Onion
Cheese sauce
Cheese
All mixed together.

His mother has a lot to answer for Grin

imnotmymum · 21/02/2012 13:11

littleducks · 21/02/2012 13:14

We had fish and chips on Sunday (at ikea) then it was the first day of half term and dh had kids for the day. I came home and dinner was fish in batter, smiley faces Angry , wedges and battered onion rings. I made a snide comment and boiled some frozen peas and carrots. He was most put out that I had the fish and a plate of salad!
