French, German, English days- hikes up the hills- Kaffe und Küchen- Prees and Joeys and Mary Lous rounding up the miscreants.....would it be impossible, do you think?

Wonder if there is a school like this left!

QQ - Gertrud(e) had an e while at the school, but revealed in the letter she wrote when she ran away that her real name was Gertrud.

God I've such a vast store of knowledge about the CS series, it's positively shameful :o

I have 4 EBD hardbacks, Genius (1st Ed, nice dustjacket but name written in), Peggy (1st Ed no dustjacket), Lintons (4th printing, some writing inside it), and a strange one called The New House-Mistress, part of The Captain Series (which I've never heard of!). I had no idea they were valuable, maybe I should sell them? I picked them up in a charity shop years ago for about £1 each! I've got all the 80s paperbacks too...

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 21/02/2012 20:34

AuldAlliance "I remember being v shocked as in one of the books, (Shocks for the CS, maybe?) one of the girls says that "Bill has her rag out." Once I was old enough to understand, I thought it very un-CS."

Ermm.. it would have meant she was in a bad mood, not on the blob!

StickyProblem No, no hardbacks, just two or three paperbacks lurking here somewhere.

Northernlurker · 21/02/2012 20:35

Have a look here Prices vary a lot.

Re Madge's delivery - in The CS and Peggy when the twins arrive Jack says Madge seems to have hurried things up once more as she did with Sybil and in the book where Sybil is actually born Jen says she was't due yet. I seem to remeber working out she was around 5 to 6 weeks early by their dates. I'm inclined to think though that Madge's dates were rubbish and she was only about three weeks early - making Joey very thick indeed Grin

STDG - thank you for the explanation of clock golf. I've always wondered how that worked!!!

lemonpuff · 21/02/2012 20:51

Relationships would have a field day!

barbarianoftheuniverse · 21/02/2012 21:20

AIBU would have a good day too.
AIBU to leave my four dcs (twins, toddler, rather small baby) with my sil and her husband for... erm... about 6 years?
(I will write, although I'm not much of a letter writer) (laughs girlishly) (slopes off quick).

HJisthinkingofanewname · 21/02/2012 21:20

I always thought there was something strange in the Len/Reg one

Northernlurker · 21/02/2012 21:23

I think it was longer than that altogether because of the war. I think Peggy and Rix were with Madge for about 12 years in total.

AIBU to sue my daughter's school after she suffered

My niece has got married and ppears to have frgotten she was ever a prize winning doctor - what shall I do?

AIBU to enter a convent

RueDeWakening · 21/02/2012 21:32

AIBU to take in various waifs and strays (last count...about 8 I think? Robin, The 3 Richardsons, Adrienne, Erica, the highland twins, I'm sure there are others...)?

AIBU to send all of my 11 children to boarding school? We get cheap rates for the girls, and I'm sure they'll have a sibling discount for the boys...

AIBU to make my three preschool daughters speak to the dolls in their dollshouse only in French? (WTAF is that all about?!)

quirrelquarrel · 21/02/2012 21:36

AIBU to expect qaudruplets to beat my sister (once and for all)?

barbarianoftheuniverse · 21/02/2012 21:36

AIBU to blast of into deep space leaving my three 3dcs on a lakeside?
(Disclaimer: I am a genius. Make allowances.)

StickyProblem · 21/02/2012 21:45

AIBU to have a holiday home that is a converted school?! How the hell did that work?! Although I guess once you count up the waifs and strays Rue you'd probably need a few dormitories.

Barbarian when was the space blast? "An Alien At The Chalet School"?!
"The Chalet School And Zog"?!

HJisthinkingofanewname · 21/02/2012 21:45

AIBU to think a school trip shouldn't involve running away from Nazis?

HJisthinkingofanewname · 21/02/2012 21:45

Ruey was the space one?

misslinnet · 21/02/2012 21:50

StickyProblem the space blast must be in Joey & Co in Tirol, when Professor Richardson abandons his 3 motherless children to go on a space expedition.

He never came back.

But luckily, Joey & Jack took them in (I think after some sort of scrap between Joey's triplets and the Richardson children resulting in one of the Richardson boys nearly bleeding to death).

Northernlurker · 21/02/2012 21:55

Primula Mary and Daisy also lived with Joey and Jack plus there was Claire (found by Erica in a train wreck)

No wonder they lived in a former hotel!

StickyProblem · 21/02/2012 21:59

Oooh of course!!! I have got Ruey, although not Joey and Co in Tirol! How could I forget? particularly the "I know he was your only surviving parent but he had the Urge to go into space in his handmade space ship, he couldn't possibly restrain himself in any way shape or form, get over it love" sympathy from lovely Joey.

I have got loads of old ones, up to around Peggy/Bride/Carola, and the last 10 or so, but a gap in the middle. Didn't it get a bit Sapphic with Tom and Rosalie?

barbarianoftheuniverse · 21/02/2012 22:06

It was all perfectly wholesome and natural between Tom and Rosy because Tom, as I keep mentioning, was not all (s)he seemed.

MooncupGoddess · 21/02/2012 22:11

Yes, the later books do get a bit desperate, don't they. Like the one where an orphan girl who comes to the school (Adrienne I think) randomly turns out to be a relation of the Robin. (Was anyone else disappointed that the Robin fizzled out after the age of about 11? Maybe when she was less cute EBD ran out of ideas for her.)

beatricequimby · 21/02/2012 22:19

Has anyone else been to Austria thinking it might be there? When I was 8, my parents naively said I could choose where we went on holiday, so of course I said Austria. My Mum told me the Chalet school wasn't really there but I thought, what does she know, she's never been there. It rained almost every day of the holiday and my Mum had to take me to the local swimming pool each morning for something to do, so I was never allowed to choose a holiday again.

I did read somewhere that there is a plaque (sp?) in honour of EBD somewhere in the Tyrol that she went to on holiday and was supposed to have inspired her.

Northernlurker · 21/02/2012 22:23

Mooncup - my all time Chalet coincidence is when Erica runs in to and recognises Joey. A woman around 19 years older than the photo she's seen, glimpsed as she hurtles down OXFORD STREET! Yes of course, how very likely Hmm

barbarianoftheuniverse · 21/02/2012 22:27

That's not so hard to believe if you think of Joey's invariable hairdo...

SweetestThing · 21/02/2012 22:33

Ah yes, the earphones hair-style......stylish, yet practical.
