To think adults need to back off

And let us kids not wear a coat even if it is cold or raining. It's me that's going to get wet, and I don't care, I'm not twenty something yet.
AIBU to think there shouldnt be a row as I leave home every day about my dress style?

How old are you? Cos it depends.

Bossybritches22 · 18/02/2012 15:16

perfect Mothers worry-it's in our job description just like it's in yours to be a nelly know-all and roll your eyes at your parents. Grin

YANBU but neither is your Mother.

jamdonut · 18/02/2012 15:19

Are you my daughter? Grin Hmm

WorraLiberty · 18/02/2012 15:19

I was going to mention the last time a child posted on MN that it's so refreshing to see such perfect spelling and punctuation.

Warms the heart so it does Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 15:19

My DS (12) won't wear a coat to school, not even in the minus temperatures. Why is this Perfectt? I don't get it. TIA

ByTheWay1 · 18/02/2012 15:20

Yep - mums worry - and if you get ill, who ends up getting the brunt of it! If your clothes get wet, do you
a) take them off, fold right way out and put in laundry basket or
b) leave them to fester in a dank heap on the bedroom floor til they stink and get thrown out and cost us parents even more to replace.....

Bossybritches22 · 18/02/2012 15:20

worra Grin me too!

WorraLiberty · 18/02/2012 15:21

Did you see the thread about a mobile phone contract the other day Bossy?

Exactly the same! It made me proud of our education system Grin

OddBoots · 18/02/2012 15:23

Are you saying you would genuinely prefer the adults in your life not to care about your well being and comfort?

bochead · 18/02/2012 15:30

Choose your quote:-

"Look here - this Mum doesn't DO hospitals!"

"My favourite word is "NO" and my favourite occupation is to make you miserable, you know this."

"When you are 50 you can take yourself to the hospital with pnuemonia, till then the gubberment thinks it' my job. That Emmenthal guy says they do WORM pizza's now for kids in hospitals though, so on the other hand, considering I DO SO ENJOY making you miserable p'raps you could go out out in that and get yourself to A&E for all the drunks to grope in A&E after all? I could always blame your father."

"That coat cost me £15 in Primark - so you WILL wear it and be grateful"

"I'm not raising an ijeet, its XC outside. Once you are 30 and have your own place I can deny you are my child - till then put your coat on!"

"Not wearing a coat means you'll wind up with REALLY furry legs and arms - it's nature's way of keeping the cold out see".

Perfecttweenager · 18/02/2012 15:36

Bossybritches22 · 18/02/2012 15:38

Missed that one worra !

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/02/2012 15:38

I don't get this. When I was a teen coats were a big fashion statement. The more expensive your coat = the more popular/stylish you were. Certain style/brands were most sought after meaning the vast majority us wore the smae/very similar coats. Only the super cool/rich could afford the coat of the season.

New coats had to be purchased every season i.e a new summer coat and a new winter coat every year. Wearing last years' winter coat was social suicide.

The same went for shoes and trainers. It was accpetable to dressed head to toe in Primark so long as your coat and shoes/trainers were right.

Considering dd1 has recently informed me that the only possible coat she can wear is the one in River Island with all the fur on the hood aka the most expensive coat in her size in our town, then I am guessing the same still applies in our town, at least.

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 15:39

I think it's naffo Superdry round here-if a coat must be worn.

WorraLiberty · 18/02/2012 15:40

You're 10?

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 15:42
MrsKittyFane · 18/02/2012 15:42

Well, at 10 you go and get wet if you like!

But (learning from bitter experience not listening to Mum) you'll be cold and miserable if it chucks down! If you're happy with that and are prepared not to moan when/ if it happens then go ahead!

My Mum used to nag and refuse to listen when I moaned afterwards! Not just about coats but about almost everything!

:o

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/02/2012 15:42

Paul's Boutique here for the teenaged ones and fur trimmed parkas for younger tweens teamed with those hooded scarves with the ears for the girls and no scarves or hats for the boys.

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2012 15:45

D0oin is that what the bags with 'PB' on are? I only have boys so no idea. I think one bag said ' I (heart shape) PB.

No hats or scarves at high school, possibly some gloves.

MrsKittyFane · 18/02/2012 15:46

BTW, what kind of coat have you got OP? Why don't you want to wear it?

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/02/2012 15:49

Possibly. I had to Google when I kept seeing very flimsy looking jackets with Paul's Boutique on the back appearing everywhere. I was begining to think that people were being paid to advertise a new shop somewhere and I was missing out. I was wrong. It's some kind of online designer shop here is the coat in question.

I sincerely hope it is out of style by the time dd1 is old enough for it because it will be a cold day hell when I shell out £65 to advertise someone elses' business for them not mention how thin it is. [mumsy]

catgirl1976 · 18/02/2012 15:58

But........would you not want to wear a good coat? I got a new winter one this year and I think it makes me look like a Russian spy (in dreams). I wear it with my oversized Karen Millen sunglasses and my riding boots and think I am amazing. I love my coat.

Or are coats not loved by the young? They are glorious lovely fashion statements and they keep you warm. What's not to like? Am I old now?

catgirl1976 · 18/02/2012 15:59

I really do not heart Pauls Boutique

Tacky

Byeckerslike · 18/02/2012 16:03

you are most certainly my niece! Grin
