And let us kids not wear a coat even if it is cold or raining. It's me that's going to get wet, and I don't care, I'm not twenty something yet.
AIBU to think there shouldnt be a row as I leave home every day about my dress style?

Paul's Boutique and Superdry = chav central in my city.

I think by the age 10 you should be fully aware of how hot or cold you are in your normal environment. So if you're a 10 year old going out to play then you should be able to judge. If you're a 10year old visiting Alaska in jan you should probably listen to some advice. I might expect a parent (or other) to say "you know it's likely to rain later" or "you know it's forecast to get cold later" in case you've not looked at the forecast. But I wouldn't expect it to be forced.

You don't get sick from being cold - indeed it's quite possible it will make you healthier (it switches your fat stores to brown fat which are better than white) - It may make you miserable, so you can't moan about your decision if it turns out to be the wrong one.

So no, YANBU to expect to control your own temperature.

The alpha mummies wear PB jackets in my town [needs to move]

I still have my trusty Next parka from three or five years ago, although, sadly, I think this will be the last winter it manages. It most certainly will not be being replaced with something that has someone's business logo emblazoned here, there and everywhere. If that makes me frumpy then so be it. Rather that than be a sheep

Perfecttweenager · 18/02/2012 16:09

Ahh now that's more like a post typed by a 10yr old Grin

Tell your Mum she was busted and send her to her room Grin

edam · 18/02/2012 16:11

Perfect, please explain why kids don't want to wear coats - I really don't understand. Coats keep you dry and warm when it's raining - what's wrong with that? Do you not like the style of your coat, or would you object to any coat?

Agree about the spelling and grammar, btw. Grin

MrsKittyFane · 18/02/2012 16:13

Now there YABU.
Mum says wear coat, you say no, she says you'll get ill if you end up freezing cold, you say you don't care as she'll look after you if you do.
Pfft..tweenagers.

Eaglewings · 18/02/2012 16:15

Thank you to all of you who gave words of wisdom, sorry she won't listen
Thank you to those who think my grammar is good, I'll tell my mum!
As for DD, or should I say Perfecttweenager, there is no hope, but I love her :)

WorraLiberty · 18/02/2012 16:19

Well it's above the standard of most 10 years olds anyway Grin

Eaglewings · 18/02/2012 17:09
Blush
Nanny0gg · 18/02/2012 18:51

If you were at my school OP, you'd get a telling-off at least for no coat, then warnings, then detention.
So it's up to you, really...

OneHandFlapping · 18/02/2012 18:58

Back to CLub Penguin for you OP...

JustHecate · 18/02/2012 19:06

Grin I never wore a coat when I was a kid either.

I say let them get on with it. What's the worst that can happen? They get wet and cold. They have a coat - if they choose to not put it on it won't kill them.

I'm forever saying to my lads that they'll be bloody cold without a coat. If they still won't wear one then fair enough. Let them freeze their arses off. It will teach them far better than me forcing them into a coat Grin. However, they aren't allowed to utter one word of complaint about being cold. Grin

I am reminded of a girl I used to see on the school run. She would be walking down the street with her coat on. When she got to the corner (and I assume out of sight of whoever was waving her off and making her wear the coat in the first place), she'd take it off and shove it in her bag. Rain or shine.

inchoccyheaven · 18/02/2012 22:33

DS2 9 yrs old got kept in at playtime before half term as he didn't have a coat and they felt it was too cold to come to school without one. So now I have to make him wear one or he will miss playtime. Although I generally let him decide if he feels he needs one.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/02/2012 22:39

My DS 12 yo goes out in a coat (over his blazer) but doesn't come home with one!

He has 4 in his locker Hmm.
I just want him to look cared for and nurtured (he's PFB)

Must.Back.Off. A.Bit.

Eaglewings · 18/02/2012 22:43

He he, a mixture of opinions now that DD can no longer see the thread Grin

She takes one to school, a more fashionable one. It's the dog walking one she hates :(
