...Rochdale.
Good God it's a god forsaken place. There appears to be half a dozen payday loan shos, a few poundland things and some mobile 'phone shops.
It's got so bad that even maccy d's has shut down.
It's only redeeming feature is that Gabbots farm is still clinging on.

I came on to say Northampton, But I notice I am not the first....or second!!! Grin

Wittsend13 · 17/02/2012 23:03

Oh and Woking!

becclestown · 17/02/2012 23:03

I'm not allowed to slag off Crawley as I'm not from there, says DP Pound Hill Worth born-and-bred. Suffice to say that 6 months living there was more than enough.
So I'm going with St Austell, when you can't see the sea because a bloody seagull just pecked your face off & you've just missed the pond stores half price sale and all the bloody pasty shops only have chicken tikka ones left

BitchyHen · 17/02/2012 23:04

Another vote for Wellington, but Oakengates is just as bad.

MrsPeterDoherty · 17/02/2012 23:04

Huntingdon. Pound shops and precincts

Wittsend13 · 17/02/2012 23:05

Loftus. I've never ever been somewhere that has a high street of boarded up shops. Only the co-op wasn't boarded up.

Horrible place. Closely followed by Redcar.

WetAugust · 17/02/2012 23:06

Oi - no criticism of Bath on here please. It's heaven.

GrahamTribe · 17/02/2012 23:06

Huntingdon can't be worse than Chatteris. Its just, um, well, just weird.

Pandemoniaa · 17/02/2012 23:06

Eastbourne is the pits. It gives the impression of being a rather attractive seaside town but the centre of it is deeply depressing. The Arndale Centre was never wonderful but amongst the not very good versions of the usual boring chain stores, is an increasing number of closed businesses. I lost an hour of my life there yesterday and was reminded, yet again, of why you never choose it over Brighton. Despite it being very slightly closer.

Admittedly there are worse places. Broxbourne springs to mind. As does Cleethorpes. Chesterfield struck me as desperately uninspiring on the one occasion I had the misfortune to fetch up there too.

redrubyshoes · 17/02/2012 23:06

Eastleigh in Hampshire. There are no words.

Thetokengirl · 17/02/2012 23:07

Spuddybean
As I come from Ellesmere Port, I must agree with you. Ran away at 18 < breaks out in a cold sweat at the thought of the place>
I can't remember who mentioned Rhyll, but that's where you go on holiday from Ellesmere PortGrin

ButterPopcorn · 17/02/2012 23:07

NeldarAufwader- Stockton on Tees boasts the widest high street in the UK, dontcha know Grin

GreenEyesAndHam · 17/02/2012 23:07

Nelda have you considered a career with the Rhyll Tourist Board?

Grin
TartyMcFarty · 17/02/2012 23:08

toodles, I agree with Wellington, Telford. And Telford itself - a poor man's Milton Keynes.

Stoke-on-Trent too. Just horrible.

NeldaAufwader · 17/02/2012 23:08

Spuddy, are they still together? I'm afraid it would be a deal breaker for me. Grin

mycatsaysach · 17/02/2012 23:08

hey ruby got to the last post on thread and there it is Grin

fluffiphlox · 17/02/2012 23:08

Fort William
Telford
Workington
Warrington
Port Talbot
Northampton

cupofteaplease · 17/02/2012 23:09

Now, Northampton is decidedly rubbish, BUT it does have a fantastic cheese shop on St Giles Street which not only sells delicious cheeses (as the name would suggest...) but also hand crafted chocolates, vegetarian scotch eggs, Jamie Oliver's salted chocolate, coloured pasta... Lots of delicious foods nobody needs, but why not?

My nomination is for Peterborough.

Also, Haverhill was pretty dire for a small town, bit I haven't visited in years to confirm this statement...

NeldaAufwader · 17/02/2012 23:09

Greeneyes That was my neutral review. Grin

Elfontheedge · 17/02/2012 23:09

My uncle lived in Rhyl for a while and described it as "Blackpool without the glamour".

Much of Rochdale town centre is rather grim and sad at the minute. I live in Rochdale so I do know the horror of too many pound shops and not enough nice shops. Tis the lament of most high streets though!

becclestown · 17/02/2012 23:09

Wittsend and don't they know it!
All fur coat & no knickers if you ask me.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 17/02/2012 23:10

Ah yes, Port Talbot. That's a curious place.

Squashed between the steelworks, the chemical plant and the motorway.

VeryLittleGravitas · 17/02/2012 23:10

Wittsend

Nowt wrong with St. Reatham...I'd move back like a shot. You're right about Wolverhampton though. My brother lives in Dudley (the armpit of wolverhampton). We visited once 8 years ago,and have never been back.

New Addo is far, far worse then the Cronx or Fort Neaf, surely?
