...Rochdale.
Good God it's a god forsaken place. There appears to be half a dozen payday loan shos, a few poundland things and some mobile 'phone shops.
It's got so bad that even maccy d's has shut down.
It's only redeeming feature is that Gabbots farm is still clinging on.

Sweet Lord those are bad buildings. I think all town planners from the 60's onwards some be forced to publicly apologise

Should be

Thank you Auntie Grin

mumblesmum · 18/02/2012 22:12

Well, having flicked through all these, I think I'll move to Dorset.

porcamiseria · 18/02/2012 22:13

worst place ever, Miles Platting in Manchester, makes Shameless look like Henley upon Thames

moogster1a · 18/02/2012 22:15

How could I have forgotten my 5 years of living in Gorton ( home of Shameless). Though to be fair, I don't class it as a town, just a rough bit of Manchester

I stayed in a hotel in Spennymoor once, think it had a deer farm attached. Was quite nice. Actually, think Bobby Shafto had something to do with it.

I vote for Cumbernauld too. Hellhole!

RemainsOfTheDay · 18/02/2012 22:16

Altrincham. A total dump. A massive Tesco and nothing else Shock

Swindon is just plain filthy. Everything is grubby, you feel grubby just being there.

justanuthermanicmumsday · 18/02/2012 22:18

coventry the architects who designed the buildings after the blitz need to be taken to coventry, that is where criminals were taken for the gallows...

it needs to be bulldozed and redesigned its a sorry site and lacks a good variety of stores.

the spittlearch a fairly new edition thousands spent designing this piece of metal scrap, that is meant to loook like the wings of an aircraft but looks like the tracks of a rollercoaster. kids get drunk on a friday night amd climb it...now they don't know what to so about that.

many other issues hence i moved, dont miss it one bit, except family of course

RemainsOfTheDay · 18/02/2012 22:20

Oh and the problem with Colchester is

  1. No Mothercare
  2. The parking is so frigging expensive you need to remortgage pop into. Town for 10 minutes.
knitknack · 18/02/2012 22:24

Ipswich
Paignton

BookFairy · 18/02/2012 22:27

Preston (only good if you like students and concrete).
Skem (only good if you like roundabouts).
Maghull (only good if you like prisons).
Southport. Not the worst but a definite contender for Top 15.

DaisyAndConfused · 18/02/2012 22:28

Without a doubt Telford, closely followed by Cannock.

Camborne pretty grim too.

NedZeppelin · 18/02/2012 22:33

Thornton Heath or 'Fort Neath' as my ex used to think it was called...Hmm . I nearly bought a flat there.

Kaloobear · 18/02/2012 22:33

Oldham. Every other building seems to be vacant/boarded up/falling down and the streets are just filthy. My heart sinks every time I have to go anywhere near it.

VeryLittleGravitas · 18/02/2012 22:33

What a wonderfully nasty bit of Brutalism Enjoy... reminiscent of Thamesmead or Uxbridge Uni.

Colliers Wood Tower is far worse .The entire building has concrete cancer, and large pieces of masonry are scaling off. It's currently covered in green netting to prevent it from killing passers-by. They can't demolish it as the Northern Line runs directly underneath, and it's at risk of collapsing into the tube tunnel.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 18/02/2012 22:34

Slough
Aylesbury
Bracknell

thebestisyettocome · 18/02/2012 22:38

Southport. Are you kidding?

hideschocolateinthesofa · 18/02/2012 22:39

Agreeing with votes for Luton, weird smell there. You get to the train station and are greeted with a black cloud of depression accompanied by the sorry state of the platform which looks like it might fall apart any moment. Dunstable is also a big hole, lots of manky pubs and has lost the only bit of history that makes it vaguely interesting (Eleanor Cross), they stuck a sign on the side of the Natwest to mark it!

Milton Keynes is fine, if you like souless grid systems with more roundabouts than you can shake a stick at. It does have everything yes, but in a big boring shopping centre that you have to walk up and down cos you've forgotten to go in that last shop that's in completely the opposite direction to where you are. Having said that I still go. Maaa.

Medway towns are awful, don't know why Canterbury was mentioned, that's nice! Glad my hometown hasn't been metioned, phew!

hideschocolateinthesofa · 18/02/2012 22:39

What's wrong with Aylesbury?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 18/02/2012 22:44

Theres nothing left in aylesbury any more it's just a mass of pubs charity shops take aways and betting shops ok there's supermarkets but every half decent shop has long been closed x it's filthy in many places too kebab remains and fag ends everywhere :(

BookFairy · 18/02/2012 22:47

I said Southport would be Top 15 not the worst!
People might like it in the summer/school hols but it's a bit depressing the rest of the time.

cambridgeferret · 18/02/2012 22:48

See there's no mention of Nuneaton yet

But I'd agree Bedworth is pretty dire.

Other votes for:
Stevenage
Harlow
Porthmadog

was going to say Royston but it's got a new Costa Coffee and the town carsies are working at the moment.

My DD1 has got Stevenage in her passport. DD2 has Cambridge.
Guess who feels hard done by?

hideschocolateinthesofa · 18/02/2012 22:58

Ah caffiene I think I may be particularly impressed with Aylesbury in comparison to the last town I lived in, it has shops I would buy things from! But oddly lots of estate agents. Lots more amenities here than I'm used to!
