...Rochdale.
Good God it's a god forsaken place. There appears to be half a dozen payday loan shos, a few poundland things and some mobile 'phone shops.
It's got so bad that even maccy d's has shut down.
It's only redeeming feature is that Gabbots farm is still clinging on.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Basildon!

Vile, vile , vile .

And Pitsea too ! Had some random guy jump into my car there in the days I used to shop at Tesco's , cos he thought I was a cab! To be fair , it was a people carrier and he was blind drunk .

ninah · 17/02/2012 23:56

I'm from Thornaby, so I was waiting for it to be mentioned! As a small child, it was so grim, it made me determined to stick in at school, so I could move away!

In its defence, it has upped its game (a little) in recent times, I remember working as a Saturday girl in Kwik Save, shuddder.

ReebleBauble · 18/02/2012 00:00

YY to Bracknell and Great Yarmouth. Poopholes.

Also on my list;
Lowestoft
Dumfries
Bedford
Dunstable

And a special mention has to go to the town that has me in tears every time I leave the house- Milton Keynes. You will never be a city.

Pickgo · 18/02/2012 00:00

No one has mentioned WIGAN - even the pier has closed I believe.

It's surrounded by miles and miles of the most depressing suburbs imaginable so that no matter how you approach the centre you are alwayd ready to slit your wrists by the time you get there.

Popoozle · 18/02/2012 00:00

OK, I'll see your Sheldon & raise you Castle Vale Grin.

maras2 · 18/02/2012 00:01

Stranded.Lots of Cov. mentions. Mx.

MissMarjoribanks · 18/02/2012 00:02

Dunno RatDes, never been in! I went to the one in Stockport once and vowed never to set foot in one again...

I tend to head for Wilkos, the market and the independent shops.

Worthing. Used to be alright 20 years ago. Now is just horrific. Some bright spark decided to put the "market" down the middle of the main pedestrian precinct so now it's just a sea of 99p leggings and burger stalls (vom) in amongst the mainly boarded up shops. Worthing Council are a comedy of errors too- they've been arguing about how to redevelop this one site since I was about 10. I'm now 36 and they've done nothing.

applecrumbleandcream · 18/02/2012 00:13

Widnes town centre - parked up, walked up and down main shopping street, got back in car = 5 minutes!! Tatty town centre with an array of pound shops and charity shops, very grim indeed.

WorraLiberty · 18/02/2012 00:13

240 posts and no-one's mentioned Dagenham? Shock

It's the pits I tell thee Grin

MaisyMooCow · 18/02/2012 00:13

Market Street, Manchester City Centre ....skanksville.

Some great shops, restaurants and architecture in Manc. Just a pity the ever increasing betting shops, loan shops and lap dancing bars are blotting the landscape.

QED · 18/02/2012 00:19

The place where both DC were born has been mentioned. I do feel a little bad for them that they do have to have it on their passports.

ithaka · 18/02/2012 00:20

Stockport is indeed a dump. DH used to work there, imparting employability skills to the long term unemployed. Job. From. Hell.

ninah · 18/02/2012 00:21

have fond memories of a night out in dagenham
everyone seemed to either know bobby charlton or the krays

brandrethmupp · 18/02/2012 00:22

Prestatyn - hideous excuse for a seafront
Chorley is very poundshoppy but in its favour it does have a Booths and a prper icecreameria.

MaisyMooCow · 18/02/2012 00:23

Oh, and don't even get me started on the parking situation in city centre Manchester. Manchester City Council are beyond a joke.

ItsTimeToBurnThisDiscoDown · 18/02/2012 00:23

Another vote for Wellington, Telford. Closed shops, charity shops, pound shops, cash converters and cafes, interspersed with the odd 'proper' shop.

whackamole · 18/02/2012 00:32

It's a bit sad to read this thread really. Everywhere just seems to be so rundown, no money anywhere. I guess I personally don't help that by buying everything from Amazon!

Am pleased however to see neither my birthtown or where I live now on the crap list!
