I saw a beautiful dog being skinned alive for it's fur in ChinaSadit was highlighted from Peta but now you only have to go on social networking sites such as Facebook to see this awful stuff.
I didn't know until recently(well maybe the past year)that this really happens.I wanted to believe they stun the animals or somehow kill them in the most humane way possible(if there even is a 'humane' way to kill something) first BEFORE they skin them.
I have thought about this NON STOP for the past couple of weeks.I cannot get the thought of this out of my head.
Is anyone else aware of how dogs and cats are killed for their fur?I ask because I told my DM(vegetarian, loves animals etc)and she said 'don't be silly nobody would skin a dog or a cat alive' but thats the cheapest option to do it as they don't want to ruin the fur so they start at the leg and well you can work out the gruesome endSad
Does anyone else lose sleep over this?I don't know how to forget about it and put it out of my mind..I've been having awful nightmares ever since and I wake up early hours and I cannot sleepSad

I think the title made it perfectly obvious that there was going to be violent images in the thread. I knew that so actually I only skimmed the opening post. I'm sure anyone else who suffers from this would have been able to do the same.

Take some responsibility for yourself.

Sandydunes · 17/02/2012 19:43

JimmyChooChoo- before I even read your post my first thought was that same video. As I saw a similar one a few years ago and I couldn't get the image out of my head. So disturbing and so sad that this happens. You are not alone in thinking like this.

PopcornBiscuit · 17/02/2012 19:45

Agree, it was unnecessary to pass on this description. It's not just words, descriptions do conjure up images for many people. If there are others reading the thread who find it hard to get rid of mental images, and wanted to come on here to offer advice, it's not really fair to provide them with that level of detail.

"Still think its utterly crass to describe in detail the situation which has upset her."

lambethlil · 17/02/2012 19:48

I also skimmed the opening post. I am taking responsibility for myself. If the OP had posted I saw a horrible image on the web, and its really disturbed me, I'm obsessing about it, she'd have all my sympathy and the same good advice many other posters have given re CBT.

However, she didn't and I find that attention seeking. The other posters, chipping in with the specifics of what's disturbed them too... Hmm

CalatalieSisters · 17/02/2012 19:53

I didn't find anything uncaring or "attention-seeking" about your op, Jimmy, and I'm amazed by the hostility of a couple of the responses.

I'm sorry this has upset you. I saw a very upsetting news report the other day about the mstreatment of dogs in Thailand, and I really wished that I hadn't.

I hope it fades for you in time.

hiddenhome · 17/02/2012 19:55

Sometimes people want to talk about images that have been disturbing them. A problem shared and all that Hmm

CalatalieSisters · 17/02/2012 20:09

yy, hiddenhome. Needing to talk about it, to get it out of your head by going over it with others, is part of the experience of being obsessed with something distressing. Like the Ancient Mariner who compelled the wedding guests to hear his story. I can completely understand that. And the op wasn't excessively graphic at all.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/02/2012 20:12

I didn't really think it was graphic. I used to have these even as a child and had no idea they were linked to depressive illness. Maybe should move the thread 'out of the way' to mental health?

lambethlil · 17/02/2012 20:17

Definitely move to mental health.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/02/2012 20:20

Will you stop posting then?

hiddenhome · 17/02/2012 20:21

That's right, shuffle all the mentally ill people out of the way like they don't exist Hmm

You don't have to be 'mentally ill' to experience things like this. It's very common.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/02/2012 20:22

I am mentally ill. But I want to discuss it without all the nobbers being antagonistic.

GrahamTribe · 17/02/2012 20:24

I'm saddened by those who will bury their heads in the sand by deleting/ignoring/denying these realities. Yes, I lose sleep over things like this and yes, before anyone asks, I do things which are "real and practical" to help prevent them.

Nagoo · 17/02/2012 20:24

There is something that I saw that haunts me. But I won't tell anyone what it is, I would't want anyone else thinking about that as they try to sleep.

I feel like suing BBC news.

hiddenhome · 17/02/2012 20:25

I don't know why people don't just hide the threads that they don't like or disagree with.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/02/2012 20:27

Some people have never or barely had them . Or have intrusive thoughts that are more about inappropriate behaviour. Mine have been overwhelming and are linked to depression/ lack of control.

yellowraincoat · 17/02/2012 20:35

GrahamTribe, not everyone has the funds to help in a practical way. Besides that, for many people acknowledging it exists would be too awful and end up sending them into depression. While it's all well and good to think that we should all help, not everyone can. People hide stuff. Everyone does it to an extent - otherwise we'd all be in China protesting.

JimmyChooChoo · 17/02/2012 20:42

Lambethill-I didn't describe anything in an ill or awful manner..infact my title sounded worse than what my post actually said..if I had said 'dear mns I've just seen something awful happen to an animal what shall I do' blablabla then how does that a)help me from what I've(and many others)have seen and b)learn or know how to deal with it?
Your 'advice' doesn't add up.Are you really wrapped up in cotton wool or something?I mean when(or if even)you watch the news or see those awful ads with starving children dying etc do you shout at the screen saying 'thanks for sharing this with us'?Precious much.

OP posts:
GrahamTribe · 17/02/2012 20:47

yellowraincoat, who said anything about having the funds to help in a practical way? Not me. There are many ways to help including passing the word on to those who are better placed to do so, political lobbying, and much more. Plus while I agree with you that it can be detrimental to some people's mental health not to hide such material I would say that there are a lot more out there who won't acknowledge it happens just because they don't like to think of such nasty things.

AnyFucker · 17/02/2012 20:49

OP, I didn't have a problem with your call for understanding

I understand how you feel, to a lesser extent

I think there are things happening in this world that shouldn't be denied, but becoming personally pole-axed by them doesn't help anyone

echoing ledkr, when the Bulger case details came out, DH came home from work one day to find me crying uncontrollably

he thought someone we knew had died

it took me a while before I was able to speak coherently, and tell him all our own family was well, but someone else's wasn't, and so horrifically

it shows you are a caring person to be so affected, but when it affects your own life, it is being allowed to go too deep x

yellowraincoat · 17/02/2012 20:51

Not really up to us to judge who is mentally stable enough though, is it GrahamTribe? People don't help out for all sorts of reasons - if that wasn't the case the world wouldn't be the fucked up place it is. I don't really think this is the thread to bring it up on, considering how distressed the OP is.

thenightsky · 17/02/2012 20:53

OP I understand what you mean. I read an article in She magazine about 30 years ago that still affects me to this day (that journo would be proud). It was about how turkeys are slaughtered at Christmas. I've never had turkey since.

Hiding threads and not watching or reading the news doesn't stop anything happening.

livelaughlovevintage · 17/02/2012 20:54

I've had 3 disturbing images pop up on my fb newsfeed now. I thought it was a wind up at first. I adore dogs and to have these images A am not expecting to be shoved in my face and B have no way of avoiding them as it comes up every time someone shares or comments on is incredibly distressing. I don't want to see it, almost can't believe it actually happens Sad

nowittynamehere · 17/02/2012 20:54

the racoon dog skinn ing is horrific I felt ill to my stomach the only think we can do is not buy conterfit in uggs or whatever else has it , Im not sure what else you can do except maybe join an organisation to help stamp this awful cruelty out ,

GrahamTribe · 17/02/2012 20:55

yellow, I haven't judged who is mentally stable enough at all. That's your spin on my views, not mine.
