Am I being mean to the cat...

(This is a little tounge in cheek)

I work from home a lot and my office has a window onto the garden. My Dcat has a perfectly functional catflap that comes from the garden, into the kitchen. She is currently sitting on the windowsill of the office, yelling to come in. I am messing about on MN working hard and if she comes in through the window she will trample the computer and demand cuddles.

AIBU to ignore her and make her use the catflap? I say no, DH who is far too soft for his own good says yes...

Haha. YABU - the poor cat, he only wants a cuddle.

redrubyshoes · 17/02/2012 15:41

I swear my cat has a key in a secret pocket. She just 'appears' at my feet and scares the living bejaysus out of me makes me jump.

CreamolaFoamless · 17/02/2012 15:52

i swear that my cat (the old girl) one found tools ....and uncatflapped my catflap the day after it was put in !

It never ,never flapped again

BendyBob · 17/02/2012 15:55

My cats howl at the back door. I let them in. Then they walk through the house and yowl at the front door. I let them out. This goes on to a greater or lesser extent all blimmin dayHmm(sahm).

And because there are two of them they keep changing the combination of who wants to come in/outConfused so every 10 minutes a cat wants the door opening. It's not much of a job and the pay is rubbish but it seems to be my role in life.

I do love them though and they are rather extremely spoiledGrin

QuietTiger · 17/02/2012 19:27

Well, I am clearly a poor feline slave! Grin although DH would argue otherwise when I had to explain why I was cooking Coley for their tea and he had to have beans on toast

We actually have 9 of the little blighters of the darling things. All of whom have a complete sense of feline entitlement. I admit, I eventually gave in. The moglet in question is now snoring on her memory foam bed next to the radiator.

I think I must be pussy-whipped!

well, I opened the dining room window this morning to ask dd something, she was out in the garden, Reuben then demanded to be let in via this window, in preference to the open back door and porch window not five feet away.

I suppose it saved him running through the kitchen.

GrahamTribe · 17/02/2012 19:33

Would you like another entitled git cat to make a matching pair? Free to good home, entitled little prince who will sit at your feet and YELL at you until he gets what he wants. Excellent at bringing mice, dead and alive, into your sitting room and very good at putting muddy paws on computer keyboards. Hammers on window when he wants to go in or out together with loud admonishment to his slave for not reacting quickly enough.

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/02/2012 19:36

Loving this thread Grin
I have a window which I tend to keep open for them, but as soon as it's closed is when they choose want to go out.
Cats are bastards.

QuietTiger · 17/02/2012 19:36

Thanks for the offer GrahamTribe but I already have one of those!

His speciality is running into the dining room, usually when we are eating, to let a live mouse go under the table. That's usually a cue for the other little shits cats to all wade in and try and help DH catch the poor mouse...

I actually leave my back door open all year long so the cat and now dog can come in and out at will...we all sit in jumpers with curtains across the doors to fend off the bad weather....but the cat is happy Blush

Yes, I am totally Pussy-whipped

Grin
BabyDubsEverywhere · 17/02/2012 19:45

Damn Quiet you beat me to it Grin

oldraver · 17/02/2012 19:46

It drives me apeshit that as soon as I open the kitchen window a smidgeon a cat will try and get through traipsing over the worksurface....even when there is a door open.. It doesnt help that they used to con DS to let them in through his window.

The life of being owned by cats Grin

simpson · 17/02/2012 19:50

My cats seem to be able to come in through cat flap fine especially if I am about to feed them or it starts raining when they are out Hmm

But getting them to go out is a different matter they make such a pigs ear of it, pathetically banging cat flap and failing to get out that it winds me up and I end up getting my arse off the sofa letting them out through the back door Hmm

liveinazoo · 17/02/2012 19:51

when we had a cat she rubbed the window to come inif didnt immediately respond to her increasingly load howls to be let in!
beware of kittys revenge!Grin

liveinazoo · 17/02/2012 19:54

loadConfused should said loud!

Lueji · 17/02/2012 19:55

Maybe it wants you go to out?

TeaandHobnobs · 17/02/2012 19:56

YANBU. I also have a small, entitled tabby. I normally let him in and out of the patio door because I am soft but the other morning, the condensation in the track at the bottom of the door had frozen shut and I couldn't open the door! Of course my yells of "cat flap! cat flap" fell on completely deaf ears Hmm

Now he is stuck indoors for 10 days while he is on medication, and he is being an absolute nightmare. Lucky for him he's so super cute...

bettybat · 17/02/2012 21:09

My very little but very entitled Bombay (with delusions of Egyptian grandeur) cries and cries pathetically at the kitchen window and when she see us, does her best owl impression - you know how they move their heads from side to side with a piercing stare? Because she has big gold eyes and massive ears, she's a spitting image of a demented owl.

I never have been able to stand and laugh at her for too long. The more she sees us in the hallway or kitchen, the more she does the jerky head movements, squawking. Then I get scared of her revenge attacks, and let her in. She's never really grown much past the leggy six month kitten stage, and I am completely dominated by this small mammal.

Cats and shut doors. They have to be on the other side, no matter that they just came through it. What is up with that?!

This thread is hilarious.

scaryteacher · 17/02/2012 22:28

Does anyone else have to sleep in a contorted position to accommodate the cat? I find I end up half out of bed with my legs at funny angles so I don't disturb him.

LiamsMummyJaz · 17/02/2012 22:30

I have 3 cats. My tortie will stay out until
I open the door. My tabby will jump up on the window ledge outside which ever room
I am in (how does he do this!!! How does he know where I am!! We have nets! I find this creepy!) and my little psychotic black cat knocks! Actually knocks on the front door and lifts the letter box! (whilst yowling loudly)!

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/02/2012 22:51

Yes Scary, I feel guilty moving when either of my cats deign to sleep with me.
How can you not when they're being all furry and purry and snuggly.
Though I do resent the fluffy one whacking my face with his paw when I stop stroking him, he usually goes off in a huff.

asiatic · 17/02/2012 22:53

My cat is currently spread out across the very centre of my bed, and I am balanced along one edge, with the computer on my lap, and also, I'm cold, but the douvet is under the cat.

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/02/2012 23:09

And how many of us send our dc/dh/dp to go and do mundane tasks that need doing but can't disturb the cat as they're sitting on your lap?

Freshlettice · 17/02/2012 23:18

orecrumbs my cat does that too. In fact he 's really disappointed if you ignore his landing clouts. He runs upstairs especially to be. 'in place' before you go up

igetcrazytoo · 17/02/2012 23:25

I just asked the cat and he said yes, YABVU.

Actually, hes was very helpful and said that cats don't really like cat flaps, because they can't see through them and so can't be sure the dog monsters and such like are lying in wait for them.

Thats why they like windows and glass doors. Plus if they can see a human there's always a chance of scrounging a plate of food.
