To hold Simon Cowell personally responsible for my daughters heartbreak

My daughter has a serious crush on Liam Payne in One Direction. I know it's rubbish music etc, etc, but a girl can't help she has a crush on! Lol. She's travelled to Paris with her dad, stood in a queue for nine hours, only for the band to turn up late, no one seemed to be in control, people who had only been there a little while managed to push in and she never even got a glimpse of them. They left pretty quickly as they had a flight booked. she knew it wasn't a dead cert she'd see them, she's a sensible 14 year old but AIBU to think that people like Simon Cowell make millions out of people like my daughter and it wouldn't hurt for his company to treat fans with a little bit more respect?

If it had been in my day and the band was aha i would have been heartbroken as well! Seems as though some people have forgotten what its like to be 14 and in proper, serious grown up love:)

Although now wish it could have been someone slightly cooler like Kurt cobain.

Oh A-ha had a place in my heart too Shenanagins as did Simon Le Bon :) you're right some people have forgotten :)

I agree you should write to the agent/management company and explain what happened. It should have been better organised. The band and the company know that the fans would have been queuing for hours. They owe it to the people who buy their records to show them respect.

But... I do think 9 hours is a long time to queue just to catch a glimpse. And maybe it isn't healthy encouraging that sort of worship.

Actually OP, I have to thank Simon Cowell for helping me to do the best thing I ever did.

I threw the TV away.

After a few seasons of watching my family glued to the kind of sensational rubbish which relies on ritual humiliation to raise viewing figures, I decided that I would not have that man informing my DCs view of the world.

The TV went to the tip and we have never looked back.

Wonky, I liked Nick Rhodes & John Taylor. I wouldn't have queued for 9 hours. We went to concerts and got a couple of hours worth of the whole band.

When I was fourteen I would have stood on broken glass in a pit of fire for nine hours if I thought Kiefer Sutherland might come by and wave at me at the end of it.

If you can't do that (the waiting for nine hours, not the glass and fire) when you are a teenager you can never do it.

My 14 year old future hubby was Morrissey. Actually glad now that I never met the miserable old sod, it would probably have killed me!

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 20:40

If there was a concert in France I would of taken her Totem thats what I would of rather done. Its just a crush, she's a sensible girl, and I agree 9 hours is a long time, they didn't set out intending to queue that long.

I suppose it's one of those situations where you think, let's just wait a bit longer, and whispers of "they'll be here soon", so you wait another hour. Before you know it a few more hours have gone by.

Shenanagins · 14/02/2012 20:46

The only thing i find odd is that she went willingly with her dad. I would rather have died than be seen with either of my parents at that age.

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 20:52

Exactly NoOne they're carefree kids for such a short time, (and actually my daughter hasn't even had that luxury, but that's a different story) I say enjoy every moment of life we have, it's far too short not to.

Totem that's what happened....

Lol we wouldn't let her go alone shenanagins and he's quite a trendy dad, but you're right, I won't be seen with mine Grin
