To hold Simon Cowell personally responsible for my daughters heartbreak

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 18:31

My daughter has a serious crush on Liam Payne in One Direction. I know it's rubbish music etc, etc, but a girl can't help she has a crush on! Lol. She's travelled to Paris with her dad, stood in a queue for nine hours, only for the band to turn up late, no one seemed to be in control, people who had only been there a little while managed to push in and she never even got a glimpse of them. They left pretty quickly as they had a flight booked. she knew it wasn't a dead cert she'd see them, she's a sensible 14 year old but AIBU to think that people like Simon Cowell make millions out of people like my daughter and it wouldn't hurt for his company to treat fans with a little bit more respect?

I think it's fair to say Cowell won't give a flying fuck about messing young fans about. That's not what concerns him. Being messed about isn't going to stop your DD spending money on the band, is it?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/02/2012 18:48

Wonky... I hope you're just mucking about here and that you're not really indulging your daughter in these whimsical flights of nonsense... Confused

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 14/02/2012 18:48

I was just going to ask if you were in France too.

It's a shame for your daughter, and whatever the event was the organisation of it sounds very shit.

But I don't think Simon would have personally planned the logistics of it all, whatever it was, so YABU to blame him entirely.

CailinDana · 14/02/2012 18:49

I'm still not really understanding you Wonky - what was the event?

lisaro · 14/02/2012 18:50

There's obviously no getting through to you, OP.

wannaBe · 14/02/2012 18:50

but they weren't performing were they?

You say they couldn't stay because they had a flight to catch.

So I'm assuming that this was at the airport?

In which case it wasn't a staged appearance.

People are allowed to become famous without that equating to them being owned by their fans.

I hate it when people say that "oh x is such an arse because he wouldn't sign my autograph while he was having his lunch/swimming in the pool on holiday/driving down the m25."

These are people as well.

And it must be hideous to go everywhere with hoards of screaming girls demanding your attention/wanting get a piece of you.

verytellytubby · 14/02/2012 18:50

Bloody hell. Were they in France just for that? I'm genuinely shocked.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 14/02/2012 18:51

Just googled the event but all I could gather was that they are promoting a new single in Paris today. Website is flooded with pop-ups, so I'm not sure where or how.

maristella · 14/02/2012 18:51

When I was your DD's age I would have swam the Atlantic to see Kurt Cobain if there was a chance I would have made it.... And whose fault was that? My hormones!!!!! BAD hormones!!!!!!

MaryJoannaWalters · 14/02/2012 18:52

Aren't you a lovely bunch of fuckers..

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 18:53

Ok, firstly yes I do live in France. They were doing an arranged meet and greet, you were given a wristband to get in but the queue system turned to mayhem. They are not in concert in France. Coraltoes that's charming, thank you for your crudeness. She's nearly 15 and was accompanied, and she wanted to do it, I haven't committed some sort of child neglect/abuse......

wannaBe · 14/02/2012 18:53

oh look. it's a puppet! ;) thought the op had gone quiet... Grin

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 18:54

Maristella understands lol :)

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 18:54

Sorry to disappoint you wannabe still here

OP posts:
NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 14/02/2012 18:56

She means are you MaryJoanna as well OP.

IAmSherlocked · 14/02/2012 18:57

This is a wind-up, right?

Because if your child wants to see whatshisname from One Direction, buy her a poster, surely. Or get tickets to see the band in concert. But go to Paris on the off-chance? Biscuit

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 18:57

Er no, I'm not.

OP posts:
CailinDana · 14/02/2012 18:57

Well if it was an arranged thing then it's a bit shit that it all went tits up but IMO it's no harm for your DD to learn that these things are a big scam anyway. She's bound to have crushes on boybands but there's really no point in her going to huge effort to go to meet and greet type things - it's a pointless waste of time. Far better for her to save up her money for a concert instead.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/02/2012 19:02

I saw a documentary on One Direction once, (don't ask). The problem is every time they went somewhere there were thousands of screaming girls chasing them. They just can't meet all of them.

I'd have liked to have seen donnie walhburg when I was a teenager, it never happened.

It's a shame your dd didn't get to meet him but I think this is reality for most teenage girls whether it's JLS, one direction, the wanted.

WonkyCatonkey · 14/02/2012 19:03

you're right CallinDana the disAppointment won't do her any harm, it is a good life lesson, and she's good about it, I'm was just a peeved at they way it did go tits up. They aren't touring here, which what we would of done, gone to a concert, which is why she went today.

LaBoccaDellaVerita · 14/02/2012 19:06

Well this has brightened my day! OP you sound madder than two wet hens having a fight in a bouncy castle. Of course you're making this up - why can nobody see that? You must be because nobody on earth would indulge a child to this level and then spend all afternoon hurling the blame at someone who doesn't give a fuck - and nor should he!

Bonkers. Absolutely bonkers.

CailinDana · 14/02/2012 19:09

"Madder than two wet hens having a fight in a bouncy castle" - PRICELESS!! Grin

You're getting a terrible roasting, OP, I hope it's not upsetting you.

sodapops · 14/02/2012 19:10

It's not Simon Cowell's fault that the meet and greet went tits up TBH. I think you are being completely and utterly ridiculous.

I don't have a DD, but if I did I would be telling her to grow up if she was heartbroken over something so trivial!Hmm

Groovee · 14/02/2012 19:11

YABU

I'd love to meet Dec and he didn't say hi to me on Saturday when he was literally feet away from me. It wasn't Simon's fault! That's the way life is. I think you're probably more upset than your dd.

Pancakeflipper · 14/02/2012 19:14

Liam is more gorgeous than Harry.
