AIBU to think it was a bit rude to say "how much did your handbag cost?"

Woman on bus just leans over and said it randomly, not even "I like your bag, where did you buy it?", just how much did it cost

I didn't answer her so she tapped my bag and said it again so I asked her why she wanted to know and she said "just wondering"

What the actual fuck was that about?

Well... how much DID it cost? Grin

We all need to know if it was a real Birkin now Grin

scurryfunge · 14/02/2012 09:15

I would take it as a compliment. She was probably trying to make conversation.
There will be another thread soon about the miserable woman on a bus.

SuePurblybilt · 14/02/2012 09:16

Rude. Tapping it was rude too.
That's why I keep a brick in mine, for swiping rude people.

Asking where you bought it is OK though.

Denj33 · 14/02/2012 09:23

Real Birkin(??
On the bus on my way to work 8 hours at a awful not that we'll paid job
DKNY is as good as it gets (and that was a pressie)

OP posts:
KittyFane · 14/02/2012 09:23

She was complimenting you on your bag, wondered where it was from and whether it was too expensive for her.
YABU and a bit precious.

Denj33 · 14/02/2012 09:25

She wasn't complimenting it tho, that was my whole point

OP posts:
KittyFane · 14/02/2012 09:25

Well, saying "DKNY" and "I don't know how much it cost, it was a pressie" would have been nice.

Denj33 · 14/02/2012 09:26

Loving the brick lol

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 14/02/2012 09:27

No, complimenting your style, choice, taste when I said I would take it as a compliment.

KittyFane · 14/02/2012 09:27

Some people lack social skills.
The "I like her bag" thought probably got lost in her head and she only spoke the words " how much was it"

randommoment · 14/02/2012 09:29

Bonkers biddy on a bus!

Denj33 · 14/02/2012 09:36

She shouted it at me, there was no compliment at all

OP posts:
JustHecate · 14/02/2012 09:42

"six thousand pounds"

Grin
bruxeur · 14/02/2012 09:45

The only possible reply to that is little finger to mouth, sly smile, one MEEELLION dollars, cackle wildly.

AnnoyingOrange · 14/02/2012 09:45

6k Hecate ?

You should have been in a chauffeur driven limo, not on the bus

JustHecate · 14/02/2012 09:59

Grin yes, but when a stranger gets in your face and shouts "how much did that cost", you are allowed to respond with a ridiculous figure.

scurryfunge · 14/02/2012 10:18

Oh, she was shouting it now?

IDontLikeBaking · 14/02/2012 10:27

That's what I was trying to say, obviously did not explain very well :(

She randomly leaned over and SHOUTED how much did your bag cost?
It wasn't a conversation or a compliment, it was shouting at me!?

If if was a normal conversation I would not be thinking about it

catgirl1976 · 14/02/2012 10:33

Rude and random.......

but you do get that on buses (I know I do)

JustHecate · 14/02/2012 10:36

That's what the OP said. "She shouted it at me, there was no compliment at all"

JustHecate · 14/02/2012 10:37

IDon'tLikeBaking - are you the OP?

IDontLikeBaking · 14/02/2012 10:41

Sorry, name change
Just had a convo with someone at work about how she bakes her own bread, cakes, pies, children etc

JustHecate · 14/02/2012 10:44

ah. thought so. don't do that again. I am easily confused Grin

IDontLikeBaking · 14/02/2012 10:44

Whereas I am a terrible person as I never bake anything...
She did say that "don't your kids miss having home baking in the house"
Well, no they can't miss what they never had :)
