Not to want to dress my child in leggings or skinny jeans?

CinnamonEstella · 14/02/2012 07:13

I obviously ABU because leggings and skinny jeans are all I can find in the shops.
4 yo DD doesn't like things that cling to her legs, and likes her trousers to be soft. She won't wear jeans.
In any case I hate leggings with a passion, and I don't really like the skinny trousers either (although I love all the bright colours that are available at the moment).

Obviously I am committing a huge fashion crime by not liking them, but I seriously can't find any alternatives - we traipsed through town in the snow yesterday, and I have been trawling the internet...

Am I the only person who doesn't like them Confused?

Boden velour trousers? Soft, wide, bright colours?

fivegomadindorset · 14/02/2012 07:16

No you are not although DD would rip her own eyes out rather than wear girls clothes anyway. However if you are not adverse to dressing your daughter in boys clothes I got DS some great trousers from H&M last week bright colours, not very skinny and only £6 a pair.

Chulita · 14/02/2012 07:17

I don't like them either, most of DD's trousers are from vertbaudet if you catch the sales they're good, they seem to last very well and they often email deals through.
Asda are also ok for looser jeans.

meathmom1234 · 14/02/2012 07:17

YANBU, they are vile!

helloclitty · 14/02/2012 07:18

I think there are loads of alternatives out there. I have to agree about leggings, I have never put mine in them except if they were doing sporty type stuff.

Have you tried Gap they have several different types of trouser.

EdithWeston · 14/02/2012 07:19

You might be better off posting in Style and Beauty if you actually want clothing help.

They still have other shape trousers aplenty in ASDA, or you could try second hand shops, or make your own.

helloclitty · 14/02/2012 07:20

Oh but I do like skinny jeans on my DD but I think it depends on their shape whether they look good or not.

funkybuddah · 14/02/2012 07:23

I got dd a two pack of jersey trews from primark. They wash an wear really well.

gamerwidow · 14/02/2012 07:23

Don't personally see the problem with leggings there just tights without feet after all fine for sticking under long tops or dresses. No issue swith skinny jeans either especially as for children they tend to be straight cut rather thean clingy. You need to look harder on the high street I know that sainsburys, H & M, GAP and Boots at least all sell jeans and trousers other than skinny fit jeans because I've just bought from there with DD.

RobinSparkles · 14/02/2012 07:23

What about dresses/skirts and tights?

YANBU if you don't like them.

I think DD1 looks really good in skinny jeans or leggings, I like them!

RobinSparkles · 14/02/2012 07:25

I think Next do some chino type trousers for children but colourful ones.

helloclitty · 14/02/2012 07:26

OP you can't have look far
Just look on Gap website they clearly have three sections, skinny, straight and bootcut! Where have you been looking?

HurricaneBawbag · 14/02/2012 07:30

H and M have bootleg cords with love hearts on the knees similar to Bodens, in green and purple and pink. And I'm pretty sure Next to jersey joggers and cargo pants. They are most likely pink though!

RobinSparkles · 14/02/2012 07:30

here y'are

Cheeseandbiscuits · 14/02/2012 07:30

Jo jos have got some coloured cotton trousers in at the moment that are lovely. They also have some track suit bottoms.
Gap, asda and sainsburys do boot cut style jeans. Dd has some nice ones from h&m too.

RobinSparkles · 14/02/2012 07:33

these are lovely

RobinSparkles · 14/02/2012 07:36

Oops, just read OP properly and realised that she only likes soft trousers. The ones that I've linked might not be right then as they're probably more jean like.

They do have track suit bottoms though.

If your dd doesn't like clingy then fair enough, don't buy them, but I think leggings are a great item of clothing for girls generally - they are soft, warm, protect their knees when they are running around, don't restrict movement and are cute with long tops/dresses!

BeeBawBabbity · 14/02/2012 07:48

My eldest will only wear leggings (or shorts in summer)! She's fussy about 'soft' clothes too. Will never wear jeans.

At least leggings are easy to come by. Track suit type sweat pants sound like a good idea for your daughter.

AWimbaWay · 14/02/2012 07:52

Personally I think my Dds look great in leggings and skinny jeans, but of course you are not BU, you can like and dislike whatever you want. I can't however understand why you couldn't find an alternative, it took about 2 minutes to find the following, and there were lots more too, your local shopping centre must be very limited.

boden

m&s

john lewis

gap

Also found lots more, especially sweatpant style.

HSMM · 14/02/2012 08:00

Jog trousers. Lovely and soft and loose. They don't all look awful, some are quite nice. Sports Direct have quite a lot of choice I think.

CinnamonEstella · 14/02/2012 08:19

Oh well, some of those joggers linked to are quite nice, especially the bright boden ones... But I don't like the things with a cuff at the bottom either. Maybe between us DD and are just too fussy, or I am not very good at searching.

I looked in-store in a huge H and M, Zara, big local department store, C&A, few other little shops (I'm not stuck in a time warp, just not in the UK).

Then online at M&S, Boots, Next, Tesco, John Lewis - I prefer to order clothes for DDs from the UK as it is so much cheaper.

It all just seemed like an absolute sea of jeans and leggings, and DD refused to even try anything on apart from some yellow trousers in H and M, which were then not soft enough.

Dd has never worn leggings in her life. And she only started wearing jeans a couple of years ago. Dresses, skirts, tights... I never found that a problem.
