I have just watched . Pure bliss.

HaveYouTakenLeaveOfYourCervix · 11/02/2012 15:52

I'd like to point out at this point it is Not My Fault I am married to this man. I only wanted casual sex and found out, to my eternal cost, that condoms and the morning after pill sometimes don't work.

You have my sympathy cervix

DH got me by not looking like a geek. It's like he's in disguise.

Although when we started dating at Uni he read me the whole of LOTR, doing voices for all the characters which shoud have perhaps given it away. I just though it was romantic..............

Now I may be going to see a steam train and a viaduct or something next weekend and DS (11 weeks old) has been bought a train set. I only just talked him into getting the Big Jigs one and not a full on Hornby........it is only a matter of time......

peeriebear · 11/02/2012 16:00

My DH is a Larper.

catgirl1976 · 11/02/2012 16:04

I have had a most excellent idea.........

We should arrange a "meet up" for our respective DHs, who by the sounds of it would get on like burning houses.

They would be entertained and happy and think we were lovely, thoughtful wives.

Meanwhile we go to the nearest pub and drink copious quantities of wine.

Its sort of like soft play, but for DHs and with added wine.

MoreBeta · 11/02/2012 16:06

tinker - what a joy that film of the London - Brighton run is. I go that route sometimes and the track, stations, signals have hardly changed but what is striking is how so few buildings there used to be alonside the track as compared to now.

One of my absolute favourite films on YouTube is another train related one . DS2 had to read the poem at school and I showed him the film to let him hear the wonderful narration of the poem and to understand what it was really about.

In the documentary "Night Mail" (1936), John Grierson narrates the opening scene with WH Auden's poem of the same name, "Night Mail." Auden wrote the poem specifically for the film.

theincredibequeenofwands · 11/02/2012 16:08

I'm well up for the DH playgroup wine idea.

Give them some cakes and they'll think it's Christmas!

Psammead · 11/02/2012 16:08

I honestly thought this was going to be a fakey Queen Elizabeth II thread Grin

It's actually worse Shock

TheSmallClanger · 11/02/2012 16:08

One of DH's friends has just bought a steam roller.

DH is fortunately rubbish at computer games and only plays ones like Mario or Sonic. He can be very geeky about his climbing kit, but I can live with that. We both like aircraft, although DD hates them, so we don't go to airshows much any more. As she is older now, we may start going again and leave her at home/at gym/elsewhere.

I am probably the slightly geekier one in our marriage as I like going to historic race meetings, and get really into it. I also used to have a Subaru Impreza and once exhibited it at a car show. I'm never doing that again - not because it is geeky, but because car shows are not female-friendly spaces.

HaveYouTakenLeaveOfYourCervix · 11/02/2012 16:08

oh fuck off Beta.

'On one of our bookcases, DH has an entire shelf devoted to his treasured OS maps'

Ahem. Does he keep the historical ones with their modern equivalents, or separate? I like to keep them together. On their special shelf.

catgirl1976 · 11/02/2012 16:11

Oh god - I forgot (I may have blanked it out)

DH once dragged me round a computer flight sim show

With stalls, lectures and talks and many many other geeks

There were not many women there. There was no bar.

Rowood · 11/02/2012 16:15

LEAVE HIM NOW!!!!! Grin

peeriebear · 11/02/2012 16:15

I LOVE my OS maps Dust! Old and new counterparts paired together.

HaveYouTakenLeaveOfYourCervix · 11/02/2012 16:17

but if i leave him who will cook and clean for me? who will clean the gunk out of the dishwasher? who will put oil in my car? who else would put up with me?

My DP got me by looking like a sexy emo. He had a lip ring and a nose piercing and wore eye liner and looked dangerous grin.

He is sitting in his computer room now, hair dryer on to warm his feet, two remote control helicopters in pieces scattered around him. He has used shrink wrap today to 'extend the tail.' he was so proud of himself I almost forgot to be a little bit heartbroken.

He also has an EVE online account and tshirt and a minecraft account. Many is the time I have sat listening to him shouting to his friends, "just get in bed! Get in bed with me, man!"

Highlander · 11/02/2012 16:20

OP, I feel your pain.

DH is partial to keeping the neck tie badge-holder thingies from academic conferences.

I played Eve for a bit but it was like crack

I had to stop before I joined the dark side

Dustinthewind · 11/02/2012 16:37

Perhaps we could do a geekswap in the summer for a month. It will be interesting how maqny of us would welcome our own back again with a cry of delight.
I find sporty and party animals far harder to live with, or to even tolerate trying to have a conversation with. LeQ, can I have first dibs on yours?
Although peeriebear's Larper would also be in the running.

catgirl1976 · 11/02/2012 16:40

loving the idea of geekswap :)

but I would miss DH despite his collection of telescopes and his intricate knowledge of military history.........

tinkertitonk · 11/02/2012 17:48

But Cervix, must Beta fuck off? Trains are sexy, you should get your DP to take you on the sleeper (Euston to Inverness is best, because longest) and take you all night long.

I would miss him really if anyone else were to swap. I'm quite fond of the ol weirdo really.
