Bought my daughter a new pair of shoes from Clarks schools range. She started nursery last Monday and the state of her shoes already is disgusting! They're all scuffed and tatty. I've usually bought her shoes from Next & Asda & H&M and never have they become like this after 5 days of use! Her shoes usually last her ages until she outgrows them, so I am really annoyed that shoes that I paid so much for now look like tramp shoes!
Would I look like a cheap mother if I took them back to Clarks and asked them to replace them??

Missyj -start rite leather is dyed all the way through so doesn't look so bad when they scuff a bit. I've been buying them for 14 years with no complaints :)

I wouldn't have the brass neck to return shoes that a. had been purposely scuffed by a child and b. I hadn't even bothered to try to polish! For heaven's sake - at least TRY!

YANBU, i did this a couple of years ago. ds had them all of 2 months and they had a great big hole in them and were all scuffed. They asked me if he'd been riding a scooter in them (he hadn't). They cost me £30. Went in an had a whinge, they replaced them.

I have taken trainers back to clarkes after a couple of weeks because the coating was coming off the leather. They exchanged without a problem.

Its the nursery as opposed to the quality of the shoes. We went through the same thing. At nursery they would run around a lot, chase other kids. kick balls etc etc. You are obviously gonna get more wear & tear on the shoes.

i had to take my sons shoes back today as they have worn out on the soles after 3-4 months use. I was under the impression that as long as the child had not outgrown the shoes, if the shoes fall apart they will replace them, apparently according to my local clarkes that has all changed. I was told that for the shoes to be knackered after 3 months was acceptable bear in mind they cost me £45 i was appalled. I would have been better off getting one for half the price at tescos.

I bought my DS some "scuff proof" shoes from M and S. After 4 weeks they were in tatters. I sent them to Head Office who gave me a no quibble refund and said they would look into it as it was obviously a manufacturing fault.

It's ALWAYS worth complaining !

Polish them - you can get scuff cover polish, it's fab stuff. Leather needs polishing before it is worn the first time too.

flagnogbagnog · 23/04/2012 13:35

This is what Clarks school shoes do. Its what my dc do to them. Clarks sell 'shoe magic' shoe polish which really quickly covers the scuffs. A quick once over in the evening (literally takes 10 seconds) keeps them fairly presentable for months.

But I agree it's shit, they really should make them more durable. Mine are both currently wearing trainers to school because they do at least last. The school doesn't mind what they have on their feet as long as it's strong and safe.

I'm moving away from expensive shoes. Granted my son wears AFOs (splints) that do all the support, but the first time I went to buy shoes in a shop (until he got splints he had shoes from hospital) I went for expensive Hush Puppies that were in tatters in no time (he still crawls part of the time and pushes off with one shoe in particular). The Next shoes I bought him in December however....physio very impressed too.

Leather scuffs. That's a fact. And kids aren't nice to their shoes or clothes for the most part, because they just don't care how much you've spent or how much you want them to stay nice.

Polish makes them look like new - try that before you match up there all guns blazing.
