to return worn kids shoes to Clarks??

Bought my daughter a new pair of shoes from Clarks schools range. She started nursery last Monday and the state of her shoes already is disgusting! They're all scuffed and tatty. I've usually bought her shoes from Next & Asda & H&M and never have they become like this after 5 days of use! Her shoes usually last her ages until she outgrows them, so I am really annoyed that shoes that I paid so much for now look like tramp shoes!
Would I look like a cheap mother if I took them back to Clarks and asked them to replace them??

No idea, what does a cheap mother look like? Confused

sozzledchops · 06/02/2012 21:30

You could ask. I've took my shoes and my kids shoes when they have been worn but to my find not fit for purpose and got at least some kind of refund. I am proud to be that cheap mother. Also took a still wet dress back to a shop that had shrunk in the wash as well as other various things.

latrucha · 06/02/2012 21:33

I would. I took a pair of adult boots back months after I bought them because I thought they should have lasted for the price I paid. The manager agreed and gave me my money back.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/02/2012 21:33

Worth a try - have you got the receipt?

LondonMumsie · 06/02/2012 21:34

Our local shoe shop took back a pair of DD's after four months as they had disintegrated. I even told them she'd worn them into a very deep puddle. They thought a school shoe should take more than that. (I was actually there to buy new ones, it was a pleasant surprise not to pay).

missjy123 · 06/02/2012 21:37

Lol I don't know what a cheap mother looks like but I always feel awkward asking for refunds/exchanges :/ I dunno why. But this time I am annoyed because I really don't have money to be buying new shoes after just 5 days, and what's the point of Clarks claiming to sell 'quality' footwear when the shoes at the supermarket are better :/

I had a pair of Clarks shoes fitted for my daughter and within about five mins of wearing them, they cut a huge welt in the back of her heel and she had to be carried for the rest of the day. Took them back and was treated v badly by the manager - but got a refund anyway. Complained to head office and got 15 quid voucher as well.

squeakytoy · 06/02/2012 21:40

Have you polished them?

missjy123 · 06/02/2012 21:43

I haven't polished them but I can honestly see that they won't make any difference cos so much of the leather on the front is scuffed.

On a kind of related topic - do you all think that patent shoes would be longer lasting? DD nursery doesn't allow them and I've never bought her any - but was wondering if they would be better?

DickSwivellersTidyWife · 06/02/2012 21:46

I find patent lasts much better. Why on earth are they not allowed at nursery? Who are they to decide what kind of shoes they wear? Excepting safety issues of course, no high heels would be fair enough Smile

FlightRisk · 06/02/2012 21:47

When did you buy them? if it was recent then they should refund them. If it was last september but she's only been wearing them 5 days that might be difficult to prove.

DodieSmith · 06/02/2012 21:47

I found this with Clarks shoes too. Take them back, why would you care if they think you're cheap. They should be thanking you for bringing it to their attention!

squeakytoy · 06/02/2012 21:48

how on earth, and why, would a nursery say that patent leather could not be worn???

Forrestgump · 06/02/2012 21:49

To me it sounds as if your daughter has scuffed them on purpose, I would only return shoes if they fell apart of rubbed my child's feet.

Forrestgump · 06/02/2012 21:50

Or rubbed, not of rubbed!!

albertswearingen · 06/02/2012 21:51

I took a pair back as ds developed blisters from seams inside the shoes. I wasn't really expecting them to replace them but they automatically gave me a different pair. I think they'd had trouble with them before plus they were the wrong size.

squeakytoy · 06/02/2012 21:51

I would polish them and see how they look. Polish usually does bring decent leather shoes up well, and takes the scuff marks out of them.

missjy123 · 06/02/2012 21:56

I only bought them the weekend before she started nursery. They have clearly stated in their uniform list that no patent shoes are to be worn, but I have seen a few girls wearing them. I am tempted to get patent ones.
If this had happened to any of her other shoes before then I would think that maybe DD was to blame but it's the first time it's happened :/ Plus I find Clarks shoes so ugly anyway and if it wasn't for the pedantic uniform I wouldn't have bought shoes from there.

Just disturbed my brother to see if he's got shoe polish! Will see in the morning if that brings some life into them!!

I'm with squeaky -does no one else polish shoes these days? You can really bring them back to almost new -and the more you polish them the better they look.
I've never had a problem getting appropriately coloured polish either

DickSwivellersTidyWife · 06/02/2012 22:02

Both girls and boys leather shoes from Clarks have scuffed straight away, always have, they are leather so they will. I wouldn't take them back for looking scuffed TBH, I don't think it makes them 'not fit for purpose' or faulty.

But patent looks better for much longer, DD is still in the shoes we bought to start reception (patent, Clarks) and they are still fine. I do always vow to stick with Startrite as DD has very narrow feet and they seem better, but the Clarks shop is a lot nearer

squeakytoy · 06/02/2012 22:04

sparkles, I think it might be a generational thing... Grin

Luckily all my stepchildren were in the army cadets, so know that shoes are supposed to be polished!

missjy123 · 06/02/2012 22:07

The nursery recommended buying from Startrite but it was sooooo far away - but I think lesson learnt!

shesparkles · 06/02/2012 22:07

Oi squeaky I'm only 25(in my head!)

squeakytoy · 06/02/2012 22:08

no, your lesson learnt would be that leather shoes need polishing, and will come up like new!...
