what did you get?, rose and white are better than red, - shove a bit of lemonade in it and it'll taste OK. Grin

planetpotty · 31/01/2012 20:54

Not guilty ...., there nappies are FAB though!

Kayano · 31/01/2012 20:55

I advised them they needed new tastbuds Wink Grin

rhondajean · 31/01/2012 20:56

Hold your nose when you drink it and it's fine..

honest...

Hmm
aldiwhore · 31/01/2012 21:01

Not the basics - sorry BLURGH! But the offers are worthy... I never buy a wine that's not on offer and I'm a fencesitting spender. Not always the cheapest, but never full price.

Milford point Sauv Blan is GAWJUS and usually on offer reduced from £10 to £5. Actually a general rule of thumb for a sauv blanc lover is anything from Marlborough Bay NZ.

As for red, I'm a bit more of a lush and will drink anything... the plastic merlot is 'alright', but they also have an offer on RIGHT NOW for Riocca and Chianti which is very pleasant.

The white and orange 'basics' are okay for either cooking with or stealth drinking whilst you're cooking.

awomenscorned · 31/01/2012 22:08

I know Aldi thats what I normally do.

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 31/01/2012 22:28

What's the alcohol percentage content? I make it a rule never to drink red under 11% and as for white or rose, under 10% and it may as well go on me cornflakes! Grin

aldiwhore · 31/01/2012 22:32

I deeply sympathise with you then. BUT if you hadn't taken the advice your pocket would be poorer so it was a worthy lesson.

Smug grin... DH has just started brewing his own beer. 32p a pint? Thanks! Tastes good too, and I HATE beer. But thinking on, in September when the fruit is falling, it'll be cheap cider, cheap WINE! Yayay!

Until then, I'll spend a fiver and not a penny more (or less).

You live and learn awomanscorned take heart, your experiences have saved others Grin

awomenscorned · 31/01/2012 22:40

Thanks aldi. Its bareable now I'm on the second glass.

I'm [green] at the cheap home brew.

we got the aldi £2.50 one for the risotto. Would be absolutely fine with tonic.

tardisjumper · 31/01/2012 22:48

The sainsbury's own range is good. Not basics though.

They do a good own range chianti for about 3.99 that is as good as you are going to get for 3.99. Co-op's own range is better value for money.

iceandsliceplease · 31/01/2012 22:50

The Basics white & rose wine is ok-ish as long as you have it really really cold, drink it quickly and think of it as second bottle wine Wink. I definitely don't have several bottles of it arriving tomorrow

awomenscorned · 31/01/2012 22:51

mo Its 11%. It says drink with 3 months of buying. Hmm

Thing is I love lots of the basics range. not the wine

OP posts:
awomenscorned · 31/01/2012 22:52

Its fine for a heavy session. Grin Once you get over the vinegar first glass.

iceandsliceplease · 31/01/2012 22:55

Can't live without the basics range in this house! Their toffee cereal bars are gawjus, and I sodding love the snack crackers. Their Sainsburys idea of 'basics' is spookily close to that of DP & the DCs. Slice of Basics Brie? Basics olives - black or green? Salmon pie ready meal for 74p?

awomenscorned · 31/01/2012 22:57

I'm with you ice, can't think what now as intoxicated with basics wine. Grin But your all gawjus. Smile

OP posts:
Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 31/01/2012 22:58

I would hate to know what kind of headache you will get the day after a session of basics wine, though! OUCH

Bogeyface · 31/01/2012 22:59

The Aldi 3.19 chardonnay is nice, I actually prefer it to my previous favourite which was Hardys Crest reserve!

Used to be £2.99 though, robdogging bastards Angry :o
