has made mn a poorer place for it?

it was so much nicer when everything was out in the open

Pinot · 27/01/2012 22:23

have you seen a backstabbing PM or just the rumours of them?

StealthPolarBear · 27/01/2012 22:23

very true - i didn't know that thoguh, will try it next time. I have a thread on AtoA, come and help me :)

randommoment · 27/01/2012 22:28

Bewildered by this - I use PM's once in a blue moon to pass on very specific professional info which might out me in RL. Can't see how using it for gossipy purposes would work long term TBH.

As for Ashes to Ashes... neither Life on Mars nor Ashes to Ashes made any real sense, but oooh... lovely telly!

aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 22:29

I think it's really off if someone's being nasty to you on a thread, and then you see they have PM'd you. Really stalkery.

Of course the nastiest people don't think they are nasty. It's just that everyone else is so sensitive.

Hmm
aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 22:30

Should say, I really really welcome the amazing helpful PMs I get. Smile

Pinot · 27/01/2012 22:31

Ewww yeah auf that'd be weird. You can block folks though, if they do creep you out. Theres a red hand by the PM they send. Or tell HQ.

aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 22:32

Can't block all the nasties just in case they decide to contact moi. Too many of 'em. Grin

aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 22:33

But yes, could block 'em after the first PM.

I would like a notice on the outside of my inbox: Only useful PMs are to be posted. Strictly no trash.

Actually I did report some fecking journo to HQ for PMing me. Cheek.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/01/2012 22:49

I've never had a nasty PM. I think it would be quite easy for MNHQ to allow members a 'block PMs' facility if people want that. A blanket block though, so you either have PMs or you don't.

I don't have a problem with PMs. Never sent any nasty ones or received them.

They're not completely private anyway. If you get a dodgy one, or you know some have been sent you can just report it to MNHQ who can go and have a gander.

Pandemoniaa · 27/01/2012 22:53

I don't get pms. Well only the once when I got a very nice message of appreciation for some harmless bit of nonsense I'd posted.

So I'm rather amazed that there is such an allegedly huge culture of invisible umbrage out there.

Thingumy · 27/01/2012 23:09

'Suspected ganging-up - Report with details of what and who you think is behind it'

Yup,and MNHQ will get to the bottom of it and apologise for the suspect in the first place

aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 23:33

If all the nasties de-reg, we'll have the reign of sweet reason.

upahill · 27/01/2012 23:42

If anyone wants to send me a pm I will read it!

aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 23:47

No, no, no, Upahill.

That's just desperate.

The cliquey people don't like desperate.

Just flick your hair and pretend you're not bovvered.

nenevomito · 27/01/2012 23:54

I'm not sure who the nasties actually are though. Will someone send me a pm Wink

upahill · 27/01/2012 23:55

But I'm not bothered.
All I said was I would read it!!

Nobody has to send me one.
(but if they want to that is fine, I mean go ahead, I wouldn't mind, no not all, I wouldn't have a problem if I WAS to recieve a pm. If I don't I'll carry on flicking my hair, like I said I'm not REALLY bothered, ha ha who would thing such a thing)
(if anyone does want to pm there is a button on the right that say message poster, y'know just in case you haven't seen it!!!!!!)

FOR GOODNESS SAKE SOMEONE PM ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aufdeutschbitte · 27/01/2012 23:56

Only if you promise never to post anything in support of any of them.

upahill · 27/01/2012 23:57

Chipping
I don't know ..... What cheese.........?

(I've got a pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 28/01/2012 00:03

upahill - you need to learn PM etiquette - you do not trawl private information from your PM's to the boards Angry

upahill · 28/01/2012 00:16
Blush I was just (subtly) letting people know in a very discreet way without wanting to shout it out that I, Upahill, can get a pm like the best of them!!

Thanks for the pm's
I've had a bit of fun on MN tonight!!

ValarMorghulis · 28/01/2012 12:52

Maybe Mumsnet should do a one day poll.
Unannounced.

They just read that days worth of PM's and see what the ratio of bitching:helpful is in reality. It may be that we fear the worst unnecessarily
