I'm going out.

It doesnt take me much to get tiddly and I'm not one to be sensible enough to have a soft drink in between alcoholic drinks Grin

Therefore - is wine and soda more/less lethal than vodka and coke?

*warning - I have one friend who insists shorts come as 'double as standard' - I love her Wine

That should read: I'm going out tonight ... not now at 11am! Grin

Wine and soda is your best bet to pace yourself Grin

The hangover from 10units of vodka won't be as bad as 10 units of wine.

TheRhubarb · 27/01/2012 11:08

Vodka has considerably more alcohol than wine.

Stick to white wine and soda therefore. Don't mix your drinks and drink a gallon of water when you get home.

Have one for me!

Newmummytobe79 · 27/01/2012 11:08

Topaz - so do I go for wine deal? (cheap buy 2 glasses get the bottle free?) or go by the glass (denial in quantity?)

Reality - Grin! Vodka just makes me pissed!

ElectricSoftParade · 27/01/2012 11:09

Wine and soda would be your best bet I reckon.

However, I do not follow my own advice as I had several drinks of wine and vodka last night.

I am not well today.

Enjoy your night out!

Newmummytobe79 · 27/01/2012 11:09

Thanks Chemist (your name makes you sound an expert!)

I will do Rhubarb! Wine

Electric - you sound like me. Cheese on toast and coffee is my advice!

I like to go for the wine deal, cheaper option than by the glass.

Also, I am a much nicer person when I am pissed tiddly on wine than vodka.

Geordieminx · 27/01/2012 11:12

Wine gives me a worse hangover... 2 bottles and I am totally trollyed.

What you need is vodka redbull Grin

I always plan to have a soft drink between but it never works like that does it? Plus it can be a bit awkward/complicated if you are buying in rounds.

Actually come to think of it, I have never had wine and soda ((((hardcore)))) does it just make it fizzy? Urgh sounds like far too much gas to me.

mum23girlys · 27/01/2012 11:13

If I go out it's vodka and orange for me. If I drink wine I'll be talking in scribbles after 2 glasses and will be guaranteed to get home and throw up then spend the whole of the next day swearing never to drink again. WINE IS NOT MY FRIEND!! However if I'm on the Vod and oj I can drink this at an all day event (girly day/wedding etc) and be absolutely fine the next day. But throw 1 glass of wine in the mix and I'm guaranteed to be ill

squeakytoy · 27/01/2012 11:13

the alcohol content of wine is a lot less than vodka. so wine and soda would definately be preferable if you dont want to get hammered..

MrsChemist · 27/01/2012 11:13

Only insofar as I worked in a pub.

I agree with others, I'd say wine (white - not as bad as red as far as hangovers go) with soda. The soda will make it stretch further, as three large glasses is over ten units, which can be very easy to drink.

startail · 27/01/2012 11:14

Wine and Soda???
I know pub wine is bad, but..,,,,

ElectricSoftParade · 27/01/2012 11:14

Newmummy I have had an emergency bacon sandwich with a can of coke. I will soon be strong enough to venture out to the chip shop.

Nothing cures a hangover like curry sauce and chips!

auntmargaret · 27/01/2012 11:17

I disagree entirely with most posters, if I have a night where I absolutely do not want to get tiddly, I drink spirits. Wine is lethal, goes down way too easy and is very strong. Imagine you stay out for 5 hours and have 5 drinks. If its vodka and coke, you're likely to be very slightly merry. If its 5 glasses of wine, you'd be under a table. Stick to vodka (though I'm going out tomorrow night, and I'll definitely be drinking wine!) Enjoy your night.

IWantMyHatBack · 27/01/2012 11:18

Whatever you do don't start with wine and then switch to vodka. Your brain will not thank you in the morning Grin

Vodka obviously has the higher alcohol content, but a vodka and tonic will be a long drink and only 1 unit. Wine and soda will be around 1.5 units for a large glass (assuming large wine glass).

samstown · 27/01/2012 11:21

Hmmm, the problem with wine spritzers is that sub consciously you know they are more dilute and therefore you drink more because 'they are only spritzers'. This happened to me once at a wedding and I ended up trying to seduce the bride's (married) uncle on behalf of my friend Blush

Also, vodka has more alcohol in it yes, but you only have one shot of vodka per drink so overall the amount of alcohol you drink probably isnt any more. If I stick to vodka I tend to get less drunk and less hungover (unless I have at the doubles obviously!)

Winkly · 27/01/2012 11:23

I agree with auntmargaret

Also 10 units of wine = 1 bottle, less if it's strong, 10 units of vodka = 10 single vodka and cokes, which takes far longer to drink. Also bottles of wine are disastrous, when you don't have to queue at the bar between drinks it gets finished far too quickly.

Jins · 27/01/2012 11:26

Much easier to keep track of vodka. A glass of wine can vary between 1.5 and 3 units Shock

I tend to have longer spirit based drinks - 1 measure in a half pint of coke usually. I rarely have more than 4

OrmIrian · 27/01/2012 11:28

It depends. If you put a rag in the top, set fire to it and then chuck it, I suspect vodka would be more lethal every time. Breaking either bottle and using it as an offensive weapon would be equally lethal.

But I think a standard glass of wine contain the same amount of alcohol as a measure of vodka. So stick to a certain number of either and you'll be OK.

aldiwhore · 27/01/2012 11:30

Depends on how you react to wine or vodka.

I only drink wine at home with meals, 2 glasses and I can't speak.

I drink vodka at all other times (well would if it was acceptable) as it builds slowly, and you can't simply have just the mixer without anyone knowing. The hangover isn't bad either.

I usually have one vodka and diet coke followed by just a diet coke (and continue from there).

I do like vodka.

Jins · 27/01/2012 11:32

Geordieminx if you weren't trollied after two bottles of wine I'd be amazed!!!

From drinkaware using Jacob's creek chardonnay as the wine..

2 x 750ml = 19.5 units, 1110 calories

from the same site using Smirnoff..

10 x 25ml = 9.4 units, 1075 calories
or a whole bottle is 1 x 700ml = 26.3 units, 1456 calories

I usually reckon that a bottle of wine is about a half bottle of spirits and I can't begin to drink that much vodka!!!

snowmaiden · 27/01/2012 11:39

The coke in the vodka will be what makes yo feel awful- anyone would be ill after about 6 glasses of coke in a night.

You would be better with vodka and lemonade i think!!!!
