I'm going out.

It doesnt take me much to get tiddly and I'm not one to be sensible enough to have a soft drink in between alcoholic drinks Grin

Therefore - is wine and soda more/less lethal than vodka and coke?

*warning - I have one friend who insists shorts come as 'double as standard' - I love her Wine

Also, if you move from bar to bar you are likely to drink a nasty mixture of cheap wine - this never ends well for me. At least with vodka you can ask for smirnoff etc.

aldiwhore · 27/01/2012 11:39

I could possibly drink 10 glass of vodka and coke, but if I drank 10 glasses of wine (and soda, as they still use a standard measure of wine) I'd be floored.

LtEveDallas · 27/01/2012 11:46

I don't drink much these days, but in my heyday have been known to drink a bottle of vodka in a session Blush

Wine hangovers kill me, vodka hangovers are miniscule (unless it's Smirnoff Black - oh dear God the pain)

I get drunk far far quicker on wine than vodka. But 10 glasses of wine is far more alcohol than 10 glasses of Vodka Coke...so its all relative.

therugratref · 27/01/2012 11:46

I drink vodka and soda water in a tall glass. It gets me pleasantly happy and leaves me hangover free. Any spirit with a sugary mixer helps dehydrate you and thus worsens the hangover. Wine is the liquid of the devil 3 glasses and I am done for and have a hangover that lasts two days.

Please please stick to the vodka if it doesnt take much to get you drunk. Believe me Im talking from a wealth of experience here, 20 years+ of heavy partying pre dd. If for example you have 4 wines, this is a bottle, or nearer 2 bottles if they are large glasses, and most people would be trollied at this point. If however you have 4 vodkas this will most probably not touch the sides. You will be tipsy at best.
Also, wine hangovers, esp from cheap white wine from a pub, are horrific. All those saying vodka is stronger than wine are not considering the volumes that are drunk in a measure. You are drinking probably a sixth or less volume of the vodka so its not comarable to talk of alcohol content.
Have a fabulous night whatever you drink

stubbornstains · 27/01/2012 12:13

I agree with most recent posters- wine is a bad bad bad session drink. It creeps in under its cloak of lovely sophisticated respectability, but more than about 2 glasses and you feel smeared all over the walls the next day.

Vodka is purer- less of the additives that give you a hangover- and you drink it in a more diluted form, thus keeping yourself hydrated. I'd say vodka all the way- just make sure well-meaning friends aren't getting you doubles when they go to the bar for you.

SimoneD · 27/01/2012 12:16

Yes, I would second that you need to put your foot down about the doubles. Tell your friend that if she doesnt want to be picking you up from the pub floor then she should stick to getting you singles.

TopazMortmain · 27/01/2012 12:30

OP I would be very liberal with the soda tbh. If I am pacing myself then it's a small glass of Pinot in a 'big' wine glass topped to the brim with soda... So that's 125ml wine which is about 1.5 units mixed with loads of water which will take ages to drink...

Geordieminx · 27/01/2012 12:52

Alternatively throw caution to the wind, knock back the doubles, get trollied and have a ball!

You only live once Grin

Well for solely for the purposes of research you understand I have purchased 1 bottle of Smirnoff and 3 bottles of wine.

Tonight I shall drink the vodka, although being a native of Scotland it shall be consumed with Irn Bru (diet natch)... Tis made of girders you know.

Tomorrow I shall drink the wine (blossom hill Zinfandel Rose as it was cheap in tesco is vintage Wink)

I shall report back once I am fully conscious Grin

molly3478 · 27/01/2012 17:13

Wine is way worse

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 27/01/2012 17:55

I can drink oodles of vodka and get drunk but no hangover. NOT the same for wine.
I remember reading something before this may be bullshit saying that vodka gives you less of a hangover because it is purer and doesnt have so many ingredients...?

extremepie · 28/01/2012 14:09

Personally I cannot drink wine at all when I go out otherwise I feel horribly sick the next day - hardly ever have a problem with spirits!

I like drinking doubles but if you don't want to get off your face you could just get it in a pint glass topped up with mixer so you have a really long drink :D

Saves time queuing at the bar for another single!

TheCatInTheHairnet · 28/01/2012 14:21

Blueberry vodka and soda. Loads of ice. Love it and it never gives me a hangover, wine always does. Plus, there are less calories. Win win!! Enjoy your night!!
