OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 26/01/2012 18:18

Poor you. And poor dog. Bastard owners.

Shutupanddrive · 26/01/2012 18:18

YANBU for being pissed off, bit harsh to shoot it though! Grin

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 18:18

Poor dog, is no-one looking after it?

laurenamium · 26/01/2012 18:18

Shoot the owners!

ditavonteesed · 26/01/2012 18:20

shoot yourself then you couldnt hear it. (is it on its own all day?)

JustHecate · 26/01/2012 18:20

Well yes, you would be Grin. A dog barks. It's 100% the owners fault if it never shuts up. They should be dealing with that.

Have you spoken to them?

RichTeaAreCrap · 26/01/2012 18:20

You must live near me OP - there is one here that starts at 6.30am and doesn't stop all day. I feel sorry for the dog because it obviously just gets kicked out to bark all day and must be bored to death. I never see it being walked.

But shit it's annoying when I am trying to sleep.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 26/01/2012 18:21

Owners are home ..... Shall I put an anonymous note through the door quickly when it is dark ... They may think it is the other neighbours who look down on the dog owners!!!!

OP posts:
Justabouthadenough · 26/01/2012 18:21

Make a not of when it backs and how long for
. Do this for 2 weeks and then contact your local dog warden and make a complaint about the dog/owners.

Nixea · 26/01/2012 18:22

I'm sure someone on here can say if this is OTT or not but if the dog's barking all day then I'd consider reporting to NSPCA as surely that means something's wrong?

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 18:23

Why would you put an anonymous note through? Confused

Surely you can knock and have a polite word?

TidyDancer · 26/01/2012 18:25

You could contact environmental health to report it as a noise issue. Or the RSPCA as a welfare issue.

YABVU to call the poor thing a bastard dog and threaten to shoot it (even if joking). That's just OTT.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 26/01/2012 18:25

They can be a bit moody .... Let's leave it at that!

Why do dog owners let their dogs bark incessantly .... It must drive them ballistic!!!

OP posts:
TidyDancer · 26/01/2012 18:25

Oh and yes, I agree with Worra. Grow a pair and knock on their door FFS!

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 26/01/2012 18:26

I am joking about shooting it ..... Would use rat poison .... ONLY JOKING!!!!

Just more of a cat person than a dog lover.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 18:28

A bit moody?

Just knock on the door and tell them it's driving you insane.

If you're polite I'm sure they will be too.

Either way, anonymous notes tend to cause nothing but trouble and suspicion amongst neighbours.

UrbaneLandlord · 26/01/2012 20:51

My advice to you is to buy the dog off them and keep it at your house.

Your neighbours will then learn how annoying it is to have a noisy barking dog next-door!

foglike · 26/01/2012 20:54

Help is at hand...

stop a dog barking

bigsquiz · 26/01/2012 20:55

I feel your pain.
Our next door neighbour bought a puppy 5 months ago....it woke us up every 2 hours in the night for 2 months, as well as day time noise eg 3 hours non stop barking on a Sunday afternoon. Lovely. I have 3 children, 2 under 2, and the littleist one has 2/3 night feeds. I have spoken to the owner 3 times, the third time in a bit of a grumpy way as I was just so sick of being exhausted and never getting any peace and quiet. It was soul destroying hearing the thing start up just as I put the children down for their naps, as I knew it would then be non stop barking for HOURS.
Are you in a semi detached house? They will probably know or suspect it's you if you send an anonymous note and it is. Same with calling in the RSPCA/Noise abatement officer. Wierd that they're in when it's happening, that would enrage me further Wink
We are hoping to move, it can't come quick enough, as the noise really has driven me to the brink of insanity and despair at times Sad
If you are going to do anything I would speak to them directly, but sometimes I think it doesn't matter how nicely and softly softly you put something, people get confrontational anyway. If it won't make the situation worse I would maybe try that.
Good luck

mumblechum1 · 26/01/2012 20:57

I used to have the same problem. Bloody owner of 5 dogs refused to accept it was a problem, refused to let me buy the anti barking collars (i'd already bought a sonic thingy which didn't work).

A couple of them still bark excessively, but nowhere near as bad, as I reported her to the environmental health dept and they wrote to her and visited her.

There is nothing more annoying than a barking dog.

bigsquiz · 26/01/2012 21:01

Meant to say..if you don't think it will make the situation worse.....

Tenebrist · 26/01/2012 21:01

I sympathise, OP, we have the same problem with the bastard Dachshund next door and its gittish owners. They claim they went to a vet about the problem and the vet says nothing to be done because it's intrinsic to the breed. No it's fucking not! There are enough Dachshunds who don't feel the need to yap all the fecking time. Your sodding dog is neurotic!

I did read that one reason dogs bark a lot is because they don't trust their owners and feel they have to protect the owners against 'intruders' (ie birds in the garden, people who walk past the front path, us in our garden next door). It's a result of poor training. And given the fecklessness of them next door I can well believe it.

Foglike - that device wouldn't be much use for us as you can only use it outside (why?) and most of our problem is the sodding dog yapping indoors so loudly that it comes through our walls.

cheekyseamonkey · 26/01/2012 21:13

Wave out the window, do you live 2 doors down?! You get the gun, I'll poison a steak. Mind you my NDN has 4 fecking dogs.

BeeWi · 26/01/2012 21:14

No excuse for irresponsible dog owners. We put a hell of a lot of training into our dog because that's what you should do if you make he decision to have one. The barking could be down to separation anxiety or, as Tenebrist said, because they feel they need to be 'pack leader' and defend the rest of their 'ack' from potential threats.

I would ring dog control and keep a record of all the times it barks.

They can always recommend the dog wears a citronella collar that sprays citronella every time it barks. Dogs hate the smell of it and it can condition them not to bark. A work colleague used one with her piss-poorly trained dogs and it seems to be a good option if the owners are too halfarsed to do more intensive training.

toboldlygo · 26/01/2012 21:17

Dachshunds do bark a lot, as a rule. They have a very big bark in a very little body. Grin

Shoot the owners, not the dog. Try environmental health, dog warden (I've just found out that you can contact ours via an online form, maybe your council is similar) and RSPCA.
