It's the owners rather than the dog usually. We used to have neighbours who kept their large Alsation in a 2 bed terrace all day and go to work. At the weekend - they also kept him inside - because he annoyed them whilst they were sitting in the garden. He barked all day and all night as a result.

Dachshunds do bark a lot, as a rule. They have a very big bark in a very little body

Certainly best value breed in terms of bark per pound of dog! I have one; he does not bark incessantly. He does bark more than we want when people are coming and going; we're doing some more training. Its a bit tricky because we're mostly working in an office upstairs in the day and he can get down to the door and start barking far quicker than we can (get down that is, not bark, that would be superfluousGrin).

What I hate is when people put their dogs out at 3am knowing full well it will bark which then sets off next doors dogs, which in turn sets our off! So we end up while a whole street of barking dogs at stupid o'clock because one person insists on kicking their dog into to the garden alone at that time!

Grimma Grin

A daxie would be my guard dog of choice, they sound like you've got a doberman on the other side of the door.

The huskies Do Not Bark. Ever. Not at the door, not if we were being burgled... they do howl incessantly but never bark.

ToBoldly - for sure. We have an inner door, so if I open the front door they still can't see what's making the noise. And you know, I've never had a salesman try to put a foot in my door Grin
