To have just baked some mince, straight out of the pack, to eat

I'm decorating my kitchen and everything is packed away! DS has eaten at my parents but after a hard days work and not really wanting to stop for long or creating too much of a diversion with making something proper (and not really having the money to order food in) I found a baking tray and some seasoning and tipped the mince out of the packet, sprinkled some flavourings on and baked it. I'm just tucking into it right now.

It's quite nice actually Grin

Did you rinse it first?

For some reason the thought of it is making me retch. (rinsed or not :)) It is not terribly dry?

You are Scooby Doo, right?

SmellyMouthedPrickfairy · 23/01/2012 21:24

I actually don't have much to hand and no worktop space, otherwise I would have done something better with it, I had planned to mix up with onions and chopped apple and bake, it's actually minced pork. If that makes any difference?

It's not dry at all, in fact I had to tip lots of fat out.

yabu but maybe not in that you didn't expect anybody else to eat it.

GirlWithPointyShoes · 23/01/2012 21:27

YANBU pork mince if different. Beef mince would have turned into kitty litter.

What spices did you use?

Bogeyface · 23/01/2012 21:30

I thought it was minced beef from your title, which made me gag!

But minced pork, whilst still not my meal of choice, would be better. And frankly whoTF cares aslong as you are happy?

SmellyMouthedPrickfairy · 23/01/2012 21:31

It was a ready mixed seasoning that was poking out of a box, called Tex's tropical multi purpose seasoning..

My cat is trying to steal it, cheeky begger!

Rinse mince? Why?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 23/01/2012 21:35

MoneyBunny - who knows. It was a thread on here a while back about Odd Things People Do.

LineRunner · 23/01/2012 21:47

Rinsed mince. Never heard of it. Is that to remove the butcher's pubic hair or something?

Nagoo · 23/01/2012 21:50

a mad DH used to wash the fat off cooked mince...

pork mince is less boke-worthy, for sure.

CoraBear · 23/01/2012 22:31

You have brought back horrendous memories of my childhood. My Mum made baked mince with onion through it as a dinner once a week. It was called "mince in the oven". I forsee traumatic dreams for the next few nights. I doubt pork mince would be any nicer.

squeakytoy · 23/01/2012 22:34

I suppose baked mince could be classed as a pastry-free pie. Grin

Lueji · 24/01/2012 07:20

That's what take away is for!

RuleBritannia · 24/01/2012 07:33

No vegetables? If not, meal not complete.

Mumleigh · 24/01/2012 07:38

I do this with lamb and beef mince in my pampered chef stone roaster. It melts in the mouth if you cook it for an hour on 180 with tinned tomatoes ,herbs , tomato purée and anything else you fancy chucking in.

Always wondered if it's the stone that makes it so nice or if it would be just as good in a normal roasting tin.

Mumleigh · 24/01/2012 07:40

I put onions and diced carrots in too or mushrooms

lolaflores · 24/01/2012 07:49

Basically the ingredients of the meaty bit that is in a taco. sort of. if you had some crisps with it.....er no still wouldn't eat it. bleckck

PuraVida · 24/01/2012 08:47

I've never rinsed mince. No ones ever told me to!

Bollocks. What'll happen as a result?

Mind you no one told me about hot baths in pregnancy either, until I'd had 2 babies

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 08:52

Vom

Flisspaps · 24/01/2012 09:00

You're not supposed to rinse meat are you? Washing raw meat spreads more bacteria around your kitchen from splashback near the sink and cooking the meat kills off any bacteria in the food anyway. Rinsing cooked meat would just make it soggy, surely? Confused

TheParanoidAndroid · 24/01/2012 09:01

Better not let my OH see this, its the kind of stupid thing he would do, rinsing mince.
