Gravy is from the juices of meat.

Mixing that with fish is like spreading jam on a cheese and onion crisp

Wink
EXmrsmascarahead · 23/01/2012 18:31

Mmmmm chippy fish, chips, peas and gravy, can't beat especially when it's between 2 slabs of thickly buttered bread with a huge dollop of salad cream

ShreddingCarbs · 23/01/2012 18:48

Gravy on fish and chips? Bleurgh

Jam on a cheese and onion crisp? Mmm - could be worth a try...

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 23/01/2012 18:50

I may have to hide this thread.

Individually I like everything on EXmrs post. But all together - makes me a bit

Shredding behave! Wink

ChaoticAngel · 23/01/2012 18:51

I sometimes have gravy with fish, chips and mushy peas when I go to the chippy.

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 23/01/2012 18:57

In all fairness, I can't comment on 'weird' combinations as I love to put salad cream on my chips and beans.

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 23/01/2012 18:57

(on the very odd occasion that I decide to eat like a student!)

ChildofIsis · 23/01/2012 19:00

Gravy in fish is weird, but I'd rather have gravy than mushy peas.
They are the devil's work and should be banned.

bigbluebus · 23/01/2012 19:02

I often order gravy with fish and chips from the chippy - but usually only pour the gravy on the chips.
Would never make gravy to go with fish at home though!

FourThousandHoles · 23/01/2012 19:03

yanbu to wtf @ gravy with fish. gravy with chips, yes indeed, but fish? no.

yabu however to mention the vomit of satan that is mushy peas. mushy peas are NOT food

EnjoyResponsibly · 23/01/2012 19:06

Mushy peas are the product of devils VD. Living in Blackpool is no excuse OP. They should be banned along with bananas.

Gravy with a anything except meat or pie is just wrong.

TwoStepsBack · 23/01/2012 19:08

I love gravy.

I really, really, love gravy.

But I would not have it on a fish.

No Way

'Tis wrong.

Hassled · 23/01/2012 19:09

I have fish and chips and ketchup. But as I can't go to a chippy without buying curry sauce (what is in that stuff? crack?) I have to save some chips so for pudding (or whatever) I can then have chips and curry sauce.

Anyway - gravy and fish is wrong in many, many ways.

NettoSuperstar · 23/01/2012 19:10

Fish with gravy is Not Right.
Mushy peas with fish is fine though, and you need a pickled onion on the side.

mousymouseprice · 23/01/2012 19:10

mmmmmh, jam on a cheese and onion chrisp sounds yummy :o

FourThousandHoles · 23/01/2012 19:15

I am from Blackpool too but I still think that mushy peas are the work of Beelzebub and should be banned

I used to work in a mushy pea factory too

Give us a chip barm and a tub of gravy, and I am happy and lardarsed

FlyingLugholes · 23/01/2012 19:16

Mushy peas - never had them as they sound revolting.

No, no, NO to gravy with fish and chips! Weird beyond words!

However, soy sauce with fish and chips is rather lovely...

FlyingLugholes · 23/01/2012 19:17

Ah fourthousand agrees re the awfulness of mushy peas.

Vinomcstephens · 23/01/2012 19:19

Mmmmmm fish chips n mushy peas with lashings of tartar sauce OR sausage, chips n gravy...... Drool......must be my northern genes!

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 19:56

Gravy on chips I can't do soggy chips ever. I can dunk in lots of different stuff but never pour over. As for gravy on fish bleh, batter should stay crisp and yet again be dunked

ItWasABoojum · 23/01/2012 20:09

Yy to mojito - gravy and mash are best friends, gravy and chips no way. Which is why I fail to understand pubs that serve pie and chips - where does the gravy go? It's all wrong.

Whatmeworry · 23/01/2012 20:09

Should chips be served with curry and rice?

NettoSuperstar · 23/01/2012 20:20

No, that's double carb and wrong.
Also gravy with rice is wrong.

Plonker · 23/01/2012 20:21

Fish, chips and mushy peas, definitely!

There's nothing nicer than chips and peas (or split as it's called round this way) with gravy from the chippy though, mmmm.

mojitomania · 23/01/2012 20:41

What about this hugely personal choice then..

My fav is crusty rolls with bacon tomatoes and melted cheese with brown sauce, it can't be red, it HAS to be brown... mmmmm oh and the crusty roll has to be smothered in butter not flipping low cal spread
