I have posted in pregancy this morning, but had one response of "POAS".

So would like to know if people know of cases of women falling pregnant while using the implant?

I've had what can best be described as pg symptoms over the last month, and it's really worrying me. I bought a test at lunch time, but will not be able to use it until I get home at 8, and then they say it's best to wait for your morning wee anyway, so please put me out of my misery and let me know what the chances are?

if it makes any difference, I have fallen pregnant while on the pill and the injection in the past (not at the same time of course)

Thanks

You are very unlikely to be pregenant if you can feel the implant. Its the most reliable thing out there.

RevoltingPeasant · 23/01/2012 18:35

Have you POAS OP? Hope you are okay!

kelly2000 · 23/01/2012 18:38

No contrceptive is 100% nor do they claim to be, therefore it is possible to become pregnant on any contrception including implanon.

gamerwidow · 23/01/2012 18:39

Hope you are ok OP.
According to wikipedia Implanon has a failure rate of 0.0449% so it's even more effective then sterilisation (failure rate 0.2%) as a contraceptive.
I think you would have to be very very unlucky to fall pregnant.

ihatemycat · 23/01/2012 18:40

I had implanon, had it removed as was going to TTC, have to admit that before I had it removed I had loads of symptoms that made me feel PG but clearly I wasn't at the time.
Good luck whatever happens!

ProfCoxWouldGetIt · 23/01/2012 22:30

Sorry to leave you all hanging - have POAS and it's feint but it looks like it may be a positive (or just the fact I bought a super cheap test) going to get a decent digital one tomorrow morning and then will try again

Thanks for all the support

I hope you are okay OP.

EauDeLaPoisson · 23/01/2012 22:47

I'd love to have one of these 'accidents' that seem to always occur on forums....

keepingupwiththejoneses · 24/01/2012 00:04

Nothing is 100% effective even being sterilized. I hope everything works out.

SquidgyBiscuits · 24/01/2012 00:14

According to the implanon site there has never been a recorded incident of an implant breaking whilst inserted.

ibizagirl · 24/01/2012 06:21

I fell pregnant whilst on the depo injection and had my beautiful dd (now 12!). My doctor at the time said that the only way you wouldn't get pregnant is to not have sex. Great advice. Not. He was Egyptian and sometimes a bit iffy about that sort of thing - trying to rush it through etc. Friend of mine has had the implant thing for 4 years now and not pregnant and she said she has had no periods at all. Not one, as far as i know.

IgnoringTheChildren · 24/01/2012 07:33

Hi Prof. I expect it's going to be too late for this bit of advice but... Cheapo tests tend to be just as good as more expensive ones and actually show a positive result earlier in pregnancy than the digital tests as human eyes are very good at spotting the very faint line indicating the low hCG levels you have in early pregnancy. Digital tests give a not pregnant result until over a certain level of hCG. Not that I've used all the pregnancy tests out there although probably more than necessary last time I was pregnant Grin Good luck!

Thankgodforcaffeine · 24/01/2012 08:33

Good luck OP, you will let us know won't you? :)

MissTapestry · 24/01/2012 08:48

I had three implants, and all off them were bendy and a bit crunchy right from the start I used to like to fiddle with them when I was thinking Confused I LOVED having it in, about 4 periods over the whole 7 years, no pg scares and I only had it taken out as dp said I was a grumpy cah we were thinking of ttc.

Good luck op.

sleepyinseattle · 24/01/2012 09:02

MissTapestry, you've just made me feel queasy - too early in the morning for that image Grin

MissTapestry · 24/01/2012 10:40

Sorry for the late update - it's been a hectic day at work.

Well have hidden in the bathroom at work with a more expensive test and it's a negetive, which is a relief, but I am slightly disapointed.

But it's definitely coming out in September , and then we'll see what happens.

ProfCoxWouldGetIt · 24/01/2012 13:02

@ MissTapestry that's just wrong everytime I fiddle with it I get tha tnails down a black board feeling - really should just stop fiddling with it.

Jackstini · 24/01/2012 13:08

WibblyBibble · 24/01/2012 14:06

FFS, I am constantly shocked by adult women on here believing that any contraceptive method is 100% reliable over all time (as also illustrated on the benefit basher threads where all pregnancy is apparently down to people trying to 'milk the system'). Of course you could be pregnant, unless you haven't had sex for the last 9 months or something like that.

hiddenhome · 24/01/2012 14:06

The cheap tests are better than the expensive ones in my experience.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 24/01/2012 14:10

I found it the other way around. Cheaper tests were giving negative results or a couple of very faint dots even after the more expensive tests had confirmed it.

Definitely test again in a few days OP. My midwife (who was awful, so I don't know why I am quoting her) said you are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive, so it's still worth testing again.

JennyfromtheBlock · 24/01/2012 14:12

Know of a girl who had the implant put in and she fell pregnant with twins, turns out it was put in upside down Shock

ProfCoxWouldGetIt · 24/01/2012 14:51

it can be put in upside down?

Well will wait for the weekend and then do another test, and keep my fingers crossed.

DP not happy at having to wear a rain coat until this gets sorted out. He seems thrilled at the idea of a sibling for DD.
