to be unsure about this trip to Mauritius?

DH has had a great year at work and has won a trip to Mauritius for 5 days in May, the week before half term. He'd like us to go (it's for partners too). We have dc aged 5 and 8. And I hate am terrified of flying and haven't flown in years. It's for all the 'top performers' in his company (don't know how many).

AIBU not to want to go? I can totally see why he'd like to go and why he wants me to go with him, but I think it's too long to leave my ds, especially, and might be too much for my parents (who he is planning no asking to look after them!).

WWYD??? I am torn here. Want to support him but don't want the kids to miss us/be upset. The longest we have been away from them is one night.

Go! Life is too short to be boring.

SunshineOnARainyDay · 23/01/2012 10:38

If they are 5 and 8 and the trip is only for 5 days then I would definitely go. They will be fine.

Kayano · 23/01/2012 10:38

Go!!! Jealous

I have to go to the Bahamas for the next 2 weeks with work. I'll come home in the middle for a couple of days, see the kids (much younger than yours.) We're going on holiday the day after I get back and I just know OH won't pack properly if I leave it to him so I am rushing around like mad. No one has any sympathy for me - 'poor you, having to go to the Bahamas!'

You're probably going to get the say response about an all expenses paid trip sans kids to Mauritius.

Just go - it's what Skype was invented for if you want to chat to the kids.

Backinthebox · 23/01/2012 10:41

...same response... is what I meant to type!

Bloodymary · 23/01/2012 10:42

Go. They are 5 and 8, they will be fine.
(would your DH like to take me instead)?

Go! Your kids will have great fun with their grandparents, you dont even need to tell them that you are going on holiday.. just say you are going on a business trip with their Dad!

annalovesmrbates · 23/01/2012 10:49

Go! Its an amazing place, you'll have a wonderful time.

Goooooo! It's only 5 days. The DC will be at school for some of the time, so your parents can get a break. They will miss you but you can skype or phone. Plus if you bring them back presents, they'll have forgotten all about it. Wink It sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Go for it!

Francagoestohollywood · 23/01/2012 10:50

Oh I'd go, Mauritius is supposed to be wonderful.
If your parents are ok to look after your dc, I can't see why you wouldn't go.

diddl · 23/01/2012 10:51

Actually if it´s others from his work that you have to go with, I think that that might put me off rather than the leaving the children.

MeltedChocolate · 23/01/2012 10:51

Mauritius was amazing and we went when still kids! GO GO GO!

thestringcheesemassacre · 23/01/2012 10:52

Go and have a lush time.
Go and be proud of your husband doing so well at work.
Lucky you

verytellytubby · 23/01/2012 10:55

Wow. Congrats to your DH. I'd go without a doubt.

PatriciaHolm · 23/01/2012 10:58

Definitely go! Kids at that age will be fine, especially with the normality of school to go to etc.

aldiwhore · 23/01/2012 11:08

I'd definitely go.

In fact, can I go instead of you???

EirikurNoromaour · 23/01/2012 11:10

Go! You'd be mad not to.

SiamoNellaMerda · 23/01/2012 11:12

Absolutely go! It would be almost criminal to waste such an opportunity. GO!

frostyfingers · 23/01/2012 11:44

I went to Mauritius for my honeymoon and it's a fab place. It isn't that long a flight, and the time difference is minimal so it's not that stressful at all. You'll regret it if you don't go and your children will be fine too.

GoingForGoalWeight · 23/01/2012 12:28

GO

Enjoy :)

Toomanyboysinmyhouse · 23/01/2012 12:38

Definetely go but how about arranging a nice half term treat with the DC ( such as a big day out they choose) so you all have that to look forwards to.

TeaTowelQueen · 23/01/2012 13:01

Go, you will have an amazing time, the kids will think it's a hoot to be with grandparents, the grandparents (if they're anything like mine) will be proudly letting all and sundry know that their talented son-in-law has whisked his wife off to relax in the sun and then you get to spend time with the children at half term.

The flight is not too long, try and learn some relaxation techniques to help you with that bit, it will be worth it.

Alphafemale · 23/01/2012 13:03

It's only 5 days

GO!
