To think ELC doll 'head' is an inappropriate gift for four year old...

A 'head' lots of blonde hair for 'styling' she has false looking eyelashes and an array of make up. I'm taking it to charity tommorow.

I thought hairdressing apprentice types used these.

I want my four year old to be fuelled on imagination, not Barbiedom.

Nothing wrong with it IMO, surely they will use their imagination creating styles for the doll? I don't really see a problem with the make up or barbies.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 22/01/2012 20:07

Spoilsport! I always wanted one of those when I was little Grin

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 20:09

I'm not sure on this one. I understand your reservations but will it really do any harm? Most importantly, does she like it? My mum never let me have dolls or anything pink etc and my friend had one of those styling doll heads and I was so jealous. I felt really left out a lot of the time.

SunshineOnARainyDay · 22/01/2012 20:09

But 4 year old little girls LOVE these. DD had one at about the same age and really enjoyed putting clips in its hair etc

TroublesomeEx · 22/01/2012 20:09

My DD 5 is desperate for this. We have told her "no" for the same reasons you suggest.

Tbh, my friend at primary school had a Girl's World head and we played with that, but not until we were 8 or 9. Certainly not at 4 or 5! We still used our imaginations but I think that for me, my objection is fuelled more by the excessive messages about being beautiful than an objection to this itself.

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 22/01/2012 20:10

I'd say you could do with lightening up a little Grin

Sirzy · 22/01/2012 20:10

I don't see the issue with it. A lot of little girls love playing dress up/make up type games as long as its not made into a big issue that it all has to be perfect whats the problem?

HeadfirstForHalos · 22/01/2012 20:11

YABU. My dds have the styling heads (aged 6 and 9), they were presents they had asked for and like to play with them. They still use their imaginations to play too.

missmalteser · 22/01/2012 20:12

Really don't see the issue here, so if your dc's wanted to 'help' you brush your hair or put cream on your face would that be inappropriate too?

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 22/01/2012 20:12

Did you honestly think that these styling heads were manufactured for use by 'hairdressing apprentice types' Hmm

HeadfirstForHalos · 22/01/2012 20:13

Alos if your dd likes it and your taking it to the charity shop YABVVVU.

It doesn't belong to you and it seems a tad controlling.

Pumpster · 22/01/2012 20:13

my 2yo would love that... send it to me please!

thepeoplesprincess · 22/01/2012 20:13

If your DD likes it, then I'd say YABU to get rid of it.

daenerysstormborn · 22/01/2012 20:15

agree with homemadechutney, lighten up, she's 4 fgs

HeadfirstForHalos · 22/01/2012 20:15

My 4 yr old ds loves playing with his sisters styling heads too. One of them has a removable hairpiece you can wear yourself, he looks a treat in it Grin

entropygirl · 22/01/2012 20:17

Not only is it inappropriate for a 4 yo it is inappropriate full stop. YADNBU.

If you wouldn't buy it was a boy then dont buy it for a girl.

McPhee · 22/01/2012 20:18

Why do parents do this? God forbid the kid actually enjoys it Hmm

fishyonadishy · 22/01/2012 20:18

You should get rid of it because they are bloody sinister.

Would scare the crap out of me finding it in a room in the dark (fights off memory of creeping into housemates room to borrow her hairdryer and seeing her prosthetic arm poking out from under the bed).

If she loves it, I guess you are screwed though.

zookeeper · 22/01/2012 20:18

my dd loves her.The only thing I don't like about it is she keeps leaving it in the bath and seeing a little head submerged in the water gives me the creeps.

I think YABU (and quite bonkers)

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 22/01/2012 20:18

YABU. Playing with a girls world type head is not all of a sudden going to automatically strip your dd of any imagination she has. I'm sure she can play both prescriptive games with rules, and creative ones where she uses her imagination. Children can be exposed to more than one type of play without it damaging them for life.

SiamoNellaMerda · 22/01/2012 20:19

Why can't you people just let your children have the toys they want without everything being an ishooooooooooooo?

SecretMinceRinser · 22/01/2012 20:20

What you mean like a Girls World! YABU. I loved mine when I was a kid.
You sound rather uptight OP. I would put bets on your 4 yr old rebelling in a major way spending her adult life dressed in pink fluff with platinum hair extensions down to her size 6 thighs.
Kids should be able to play with what they like imo and if that's a dolls head or a digger so be it - regardless of their sex.

tanfastic · 22/01/2012 20:20

I don't see the problem with it. I had a girls world when I was little and loved it. My mum never let me have a Barbie or Sindy though and I've never let her forget it.

LanceCorporalBoiledEgg · 22/01/2012 20:20

Depends if she likes it or not.

FWIW my 4 yo would hate something like this. She's not really interested in hair (hers or anyone elses!) or make up.

I hate it when people assume ALL little girls are into this sort of thing.

bubbleandsqueaks · 22/01/2012 20:21

YANBU.

I dislike them as the put the emphasis on beauty rather than brains.
