...just stop it would you please?

Look, you don't have to do the ironing, ok, so stop moaning about it looking for sympathy.

Someone even posted a photo on facebook last week of their ironing pile - mountains of fecking toddler jeans. Why??

Yes, it's a pain in the butt job, but stop going on about it, please.

Long washing line in kitchen sorts tops, skirts and trousers. Blouses and shirts go over the corners of the clothes horse.
Woe betide anyone who scrunched wet, damp or dry washing. It must be hung as above or piled flat until put on hangers.
Any person caught causing ironing can hilly well do it. P.S. I have no idea where the iron is.

Forrestgump · 22/01/2012 20:46

I dont iron - but a lovely lady gets £20 a week for us to look crease free.

hiddenhome · 22/01/2012 20:48

I just hang my clothes up on hangers to dry, then put away in the wardrobe, then iron what I need for the next day. It takes 10 minutes. I would be unable to stand doing piles and piles of it, even in front of the tv. It's the most miserable job there is imo.

blackeyedsusan · 22/01/2012 20:50

strategig drying and folding + dh is resspnsible for his own shirts.

neveradullmomentinparadise · 22/01/2012 20:58

Ah, ironing. DD (4) was puzzled by the strange metal thing on the landing. "What's that thing, Mummy?". "It's for ironing, DD". "What's THAT??". Quite.

ImpOfThePerverse · 22/01/2012 21:20

I don't iron.

I have a theory that by ironing things you damage the fibres so they 'need' ironing (if you are the kind of person who believes creases are wrong) in future. The only evidence I have for this is my old housemate and I had identical work uniforms, washed them in the same machine, she ironed hers from when she first had it and I never did mine. We could put them in the same wash and hers would come out creased and mine didn't.

Once you start ironing you are stuck doing it forever which is why I will never start.

hiddenhome · 22/01/2012 21:22

ds1 is 13 and I've taught him to iron his own school uniform Smile

troisgarcons · 22/01/2012 21:23

You do have to do the ironing - or else you look scruffy, nay a bit tatty, and a load of MN-ers will do judgy-pants threads bout lower-class people they see out and about.

treadonthecracks · 22/01/2012 21:25

M+S non iron shirts are fab. Just hang them on a hanger as soon as the wash finishes.

dontrememberme · 22/01/2012 21:27

if you dont iropn, you look creased.
A bloke in our office never irons his clothes he is known as Wrinkly.

So i do moan about my ironing pile BUT it annoys me when smug people with wrinkly clothes say "Oh I never iron" yes we know but we are all too polite to tell you.... STANDARDS PLEASE!
Now off i toddle to do the ironing!

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 22/01/2012 21:27

I quite like ironing too, I usually do mine while DD has her post lunch nap and watch Jeremy Kyle some quality TV. Seeing a nice pile of folded and ironed clothes makes me happy, although I can't be arsed to do the bed sheets.

I purposely buy clothes that do not require dry cleaning or ironing, simple.

Haziedoll · 22/01/2012 21:35

I'm surprised at the amount of people using tumble dryers for everything. I'm not exactly known for being environmentally friendly but even I draw the line at using the tumble dryer on a regular basis.

YusMilady · 22/01/2012 21:36

I like to wear ironed clothes, therefore I iron. It's not so much the lack of creases, it's the beautiful smooth, crisp finish you can only get on natural fibres by ironing. Ironed bedlinen is one of life's greatest, most sensual pleasures. Polycotton is the devil's handiwork.

mrsmaltesers · 22/01/2012 21:38

I only iron what totally needs it. A friend irons her nighties, oyjamas, bath towels ... Everything. She does 4 hours ironing every weekend. Bloody nightmare, and yes she moans about it but i dont really listen.

UnsureAndWaiting · 22/01/2012 21:41

Dp's t shirts have to be ironed he has a 'thing' about creases, even just relaxing at home. Hmm At home I couldn't give a care. He usually ends up doing them as my time is so full of things (run a business, mother, home keeper, more interesting hobbies...).

Very rarely do mine or dd's things go into the ironing pile. When they do it's just a few bits. I'm not all creased! We have hangers.

brandysoakedbitch · 22/01/2012 21:42

I don't stress about it, I pay someone else to do it for me. I like it all done, all dh's shirts. the dcs stuff too and also bedding has to be ironed. I have no intention of moaning about it but I have no intention of doing it myself.

OnlyANinja · 22/01/2012 21:55

I don't mind ironing compared to other housework - if ironing needed doing I'd rather do that than clean the bathroom.

I don mind ironing compared to doing what I like - since I have made it so that ironing doesn't need doing I would rather not do it

Anniegetyourgun · 22/01/2012 22:03

Ironing is against my religion.

marriedinwhite · 22/01/2012 22:34

DH has to wear proper cotton turn back cuff shirts and only wears slightly more casual ones at the weekend, DS has to wear white shirts for school, DD has to wear a cotton blouse for school. I tend to wear skirts or trousers with a top or blouse. There is no way cotton shirts cannot be ironed. If I didn't iron out the creases in things like jeans, chinos, leggings and cotton summer dresses I would feel dreadful and we would all look scruffy. Not even going into duvet covers and pillow cases on here. Or DH's boxers and hankies and the fact that DH likes the collars on DS's rugby shirts done Grin

I do about 90 minutes a week of it and my cleaner does another two hours or so.

Just has to be done.

RitaMorgan · 22/01/2012 22:46

Ironing children's clothes is bizarre. Ironing jeans a leggings? Crazy Grin

I concede cotton shirts/dresses do sometimes need ironing - I probably iron something once a month. Generally I just give things a shake and hang them up though.

cece · 22/01/2012 22:46

I don't iron.

My colleagues didn't believe me when we were discussing it once.

I wear linen a lot...
