...just stop it would you please?

Look, you don't have to do the ironing, ok, so stop moaning about it looking for sympathy.

Someone even posted a photo on facebook last week of their ironing pile - mountains of fecking toddler jeans. Why??

Yes, it's a pain in the butt job, but stop going on about it, please.

I don't iron anything, out of the dryer then fold, or if shirts, hang straightaway.

HandMini · 22/01/2012 19:49

Fishy, absolutely love your collar/hair straightener trick. Will be trying that myself as my work 'uniform' is shirt and v neck jumper.

Smurfy1 · 22/01/2012 19:50

I love ironing lol, wierd I know but I find it stress relieving I stick my favourite film on and tend to find it all done by time it over

OlympicEater · 22/01/2012 19:50

I only iron DHs shirts - everything else is air dryed then ten minutes in the dryer, smothed as folded.

The sheer weight of my clean washing pile is as effective as the pressure of an iron

Mrsrobertduvall · 22/01/2012 19:50

I like ironing but never moanGrin

Tee2072 · 22/01/2012 19:53

Ironing is the stupidest invention ever. So what if you have a few wrinkles? Who decided wrinkles were bad?

BendyBob · 22/01/2012 19:54

I used to moan.

Then I discovered the merits of folding for most of it (and a lovely ironing lady for the restWink) Now I don't do any Smile

RedHotPokers · 22/01/2012 19:57

Also loving Fishy's hair straightening plan!

DH irons his own shirts, and occasionally mine and his work trousers if ABSOLUTELY necessary.

I buy tops that don't need ironing where possible (will not have Linen in the house Grin).

Re. school clothes, a tumble dry and strategic shake of trousers/dresses normally does the trick. Shirts/blouses are folded flat whilst damp. If all else fails, exclaim loudly at school drop off 'oh goodness DD, what have you done with your cardigan? How on earth did it get so creased?! '.

sodapops · 22/01/2012 19:57

I love ironing too.

I take the clothes straight out of the dryer and fold as soon as it finishes, but the clothes still look all creased and crumpled.

DS2 took his blazer off at school the other day and the teacher told him it was a welcome change to see a nice, ironed shirt!

Bunbaker · 22/01/2012 19:59

"we don't iron, just dry and fold, easy."

I wear natural fibres - mainly cotton. To me they look so scruffy if they haven't been ironed. DD's school shirts just look a mess if unironed. But I don't find ironing a chore. OH does his own ironing.

I think, also, that I am more fussy about clothes being ironed because I like to look well groomed although I'm not sure whether it works. I don't iron sheets and duvet covers.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 22/01/2012 20:00

YANBU OP Ironing is a filthy habit and should be stamped out!

ClothesOfSand · 22/01/2012 20:02

I like to iron. I am a slattern in all other matters.

I love the hair straighteners idea. Great alternative to a travel iron.

I want one of those irons with the separate base thing that creates more steam.

Bumperlicious · 22/01/2012 20:06

'Ironing is the stupidest invention ever. So what if you have a few wrinkles? Who decided wrinkles were bad?' Exactly what I wanted to say. The secret isn't that my clothes are wrinkle free, but I don't look scruffy either. I seem to manage without being overtly judged. & quite frankly I don't care to associate with someone who'd judge me for a few creases. Life's too short to iron. I'm sure no-one on their death bed wishes they spent more time ironing.

Procrastinating · 22/01/2012 20:06

I never iron anything. Bunbaker are you saying I don't look well groomed? I don't brush my hair either (curly) so you are probably right.
The DC look fine without any ironing, shake the clothes vigorously & then hang on a hanger = fine.

missmalteser · 22/01/2012 20:09

Well, who knew people would have such ahem, strong, opinions on whether to iron or not! There's no right or wrong here people! Apart from those annoying people who moan about it all the time I guess, fwiw I don't judge, just notice :)

LittlebearH · 22/01/2012 20:16

I wish I could iron and like it. I yearn to have all clothes and bed linen all ironed beautifully. But I iron as I need. Thankfully DP doesnt wear shirts for work. Occasionally if I have NOTHING else to do I may go mad and iron a load of stuff. Quite nice then to have more of a selection of stuff to wear. As opposed to picking something out and putting it back because it needs ironing....

Bunbaker · 22/01/2012 20:21

I don't judge people who don't iron. I judge myself for looking what I consider a mess if I am wearing wrinkled clothes. It is just one of my quirks. I am merely justifying why I iron. I couldn't give a toss about anyone else or what they think.

Fo0ffyShmo0ffer · 22/01/2012 20:22

I don't mind ironing. I iron most things and I couldn't give a shiny shite what anyone else does.

motherinferior · 22/01/2012 20:23

We don't have a tumble drier, but I don't seem to have much ironing either. DP has quite a bit (I tend to do the Inferiorettes', but there isn't much of that) but that's bog-all to do with me.

ShagOBite · 22/01/2012 20:23

One of my favourite things about my life is spending £5 a week getting 10 items ironed for me and delivered. No clothes to sort out all week!

Mimmee · 22/01/2012 20:24

I love ironing.

I usually iron in front of corrie and really enjoy it, especially doing DD's little baby clothes.

I'm not as bad as my DM though, who even irons my DF's underpants Shock

Seona1973 · 22/01/2012 20:24

I only iron dh's shirts and the kids stuff for school. Clothes are dried on an airer (shirts hang off it on hangers) and are then put away and then when the ironing is done on a sunday I pick out what needs doing so dont have an ironing pile.

Meglet · 22/01/2012 20:26

YANBU.

This is why washing lines were invented. Stick it on the line and the breeze blows the creases out, then hang it up. I choose my clothes on the basis of whether it will need any ironing.

I only iron DS's school trousers, even then I can skip a week or two and you'd never know. If I'm going for a job interview I will iron my suit, but that's it.

I once knew someone who ironed baby socks Confused.

Tee2072 · 22/01/2012 20:27

"I judge myself for looking what I consider a mess if I am wearing wrinkled clothes."

But if no one had ever told you that wrinkles look 'a mess' it would never occur to you that you did.

It's a creation of civilization. If that's what we have. Grin

LittlebearH · 22/01/2012 20:30

My mum used to iron our underwear and towels... How mad is that?!

I think I hate ironing because I am not as good at it as I would like. Despite having one of those massive irons with the resevoir.

I cannot imagine liking ironing. I like cleaning though.
