To think referring to my DS and her DCs as babies is a bit odd

My Ds is nearly 6, my friend's DCs are 9, 4 and 20 months. She says things like come round and the babies can play. They're not babies (well the 20mo could still count but is more toddler in my mind) they're children.

It doesn't really matter but I just find it odd.

Too. Much. Time. On. Hands.

Choufleur · 21/01/2012 18:54

Probably at the minute - I'm bored having played lego lots this pm

gah - it's a term of endearment

next!

BackforGood · 21/01/2012 18:57

I think that's a bit of an odd term. Mind you, I'd probably say "kids" and I know that would get somebody's goat.

  • see what I did there ? Grin
SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 21/01/2012 18:59

Oooh no this would bug me too. Call a spade a spade ffs. Even though they're children, not spades.

Sirzy · 21/01/2012 19:00

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Its not an insult so doesn't really matter.

ddubsgirl · 21/01/2012 19:08

i call my lot my babies, not matter how old they get, they are my babies :)

Choufleur · 21/01/2012 19:16

I get that ddubsgirl but still find it odd that she suggests the babies play. DS would be very insulted if he knew that someone called him a baby.

My friend still refers to her DS as her baby boy, and he's 18. Grin

My DS would feel very embarrassed, but her DS is okay with it.

oldmum42 · 21/01/2012 19:27

At our wedding, my new PIL got up at the end of the reception meal and announced "We have to leave now, we have to get the baby settled down to sleep". They were talking about my 12yo sil!!!! My entire family thought this ODD to say the least.

laptopdancer · 21/01/2012 19:27

We call ds "the baby". He is 7.

Yes I get that your own dcs are your babies. But would you refer to other people's dcs as babies when they are clearly not?
