to get rid of the cat?

ihatemycat · 19/01/2012 17:28

I never thought I would be the sort of person who wanted to get rid of a pet but she is really pissing me off.

She is fed the best tins I can buy but insists on going out and eating grass. She has just been sick all over our (top loading) washing machine despite having access to go outside.

She's also started shitting next to the (large and regularly cleaned) litter tray or sometimes in the most awkward places I can hardly reach into, this is also despite having the opportunity to go outside.

She also like to wake DS1 (age 5) up in teh night by walking on his head and also wakes us up several times a night for no reason other than she sleeps all day so wants to arse around all night.

I'm pregnant and frankly the smell and aggro of cleaning it up after her is just making me utterly fed up. I am just so fed up and feel she probably deserves better than a family who are all pissed off with her...

Oh yes, I definitely think you should rehome the cat. In the cat's best interests.

foglike · 19/01/2012 17:30

If the Cat has only just started doing this a trip to the vet might help she might be poorly.

AmberLeaf · 19/01/2012 17:30

She sounds...like.a.cat.

winnybella · 19/01/2012 17:31

Cats eating grass to make themselves sick is totally normal behaviour, I would have thought.
Ditto walking all over you while you sleep.
Don't know what to advise re: pooing everywhere.

gordyslovesheep · 19/01/2012 17:32

she is being a cat - yabu - but yes - rehome the poor thing

coccyx · 19/01/2012 17:33

You sound awful. the cat deserves better

ABatInBunkFive · 19/01/2012 17:33

I'd agree with your last sentence. Though cats can play up when there is someone pregnant, i'm pretty sure she isn't choosing to do those things knowing they will piss you off.

Kayano · 19/01/2012 17:33

Close your sons
Door or keep her out
Of the room?

Try different litter/ tray

PopcornMouse · 19/01/2012 17:33

Cats eating grass is normal, I think it might help with furballs (but could be wrong). Ours likes broccolli :o

TopazMortmain · 19/01/2012 17:33

What you have just described is a normal cat IME.

YABU. But then I like cats.

pinkhebe · 19/01/2012 17:34

They eat grass when they have a yummy ache, also helps with coughing up fur balls. We close my son's door at night! and yes he does walk over our heads/sleep on mine. If it gets too irritating he gets shut downstairs with some toys to play with.

Get a vet to check out about the pooing, might have something to do with your pregnancy hormones

It's what cat's do

Animation · 19/01/2012 17:34

It doesn't go down well on here to say get rid - but I would. The babies come first.

expatinscotland · 19/01/2012 17:34

Yes, you are right, she is better off with someone else. She's a cat.

PopcornMouse · 19/01/2012 17:34

And also, ours used to do that with the litter tray - turned out he was kicking it out when he was trying to bury it. Buy one with a lid and flap.

Unlurked · 19/01/2012 17:35

Take her to the vet andclose your bedroom doors at night. Fwiw my cat is a pita too, she regularly releases wildlife into the wondrous captivity of my bedroom. That's cats for you!

pinkhebe · 19/01/2012 17:35

rehoming a cat is not as easy (or kind) as you think though, especially if they are older

ObviouslyOblivious · 19/01/2012 17:36

She's trying to tell you that she hates you. Do her a favour and let her find a home where she can be loved forever.

ditavonteesed · 19/01/2012 17:36

it is nothing to do with the babies though is it?

naturalbaby · 19/01/2012 17:37

YABU. the poor cat deserves someone who understands it's needs a bit better. i've been through 3 pregnancys and plenty of 'i hate my cat' moments, including when one of them was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis during my 1st pregnancy. although i was more concerned for her health actually.

there are plenty of other options.

BuenTiempo · 19/01/2012 17:37

put it out at night

ihatemycat · 19/01/2012 17:39

Gawd, yes, you're right I am being totally unreasonable..

I am just fed up of the puking and shitting... it's not a partucularly recent thing and she's been checked out by the vet and has a clean bill of health. We've had her many years and I think maybe I am being a bit hormonal about it all, the smell just makes me feel so ill... I feel I can constantly smell poo all over the place :(

I wonder if maybe she would be happier going out more, she is happiest in summer when she lives in the conservatory (with windows open so not roasted) and comes and goes as she pleases but it's too cold for that now... Maybe a heat pad or something would mean she could be out there more in the day?

I feel awful for being so fed up with her...

sounds like a normal mad cat to me

rehome with someone who actually knows what cats are like

TwllBach · 19/01/2012 17:43

Mine is very good at pissing me off too. At this moment she is screaming like a banshee for no good reason. She also has been known to punch me on the nose to wake me up and play. I haven't thought about getting rid though, I either put her outside, close the bedroom door or think about my own behaviour and see if it is my fault. more often than not she is just being demanding

It doesnt sound like she is doing anything dangerous or harmful to you or your DC though? Just being irritating!

JayVazzle · 19/01/2012 17:43

She is probably eating the grass to help furballs, you can by a special food to help. My cat is sick at least at least 2x week she has also occasionally pooped in naughty places, once on the sofa, once under it and once under my desk.

She also sits outside my bedroom door singing (honestly), she follows me everywhere even to the loo and is a pain in the arse. But I love bones off of her and nothing would make me part with her.

You should take your cat to the vet yo make sure she isn't poorly and if you do decide to rehome please please choose carefully and make sure its a no kill rescue.

Where abouts do you live?

ihatemycat · 19/01/2012 17:43

Have tried changing litter, she has a massive tra (one of those huge plastic storage boxes, very large and deep, it has a lid on the top with an opening so she can get in and out easily but not kick the litter out (which has been a problem before). It seems she won't bury anything in there for some reason so whole house seems to permanently smell as well...

I feel bad about shutting her out at night as it's so cold, equally shutting bedroom doors means she yowls to come in, plus DS1 doesn't like having his closed and will moan on...

I sound like a right whinger!
