Got an invite to the tory club private viewing of the Thatcher film. AIBU to want to go dressed as a miner?

The thing is, I've judged things wrong before but I really want to.

AIBU?

get lagging drunk beforehand and throw old tomatoes at the screen every time she come on.

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 20:06

In my mind somewhere I would do this, then sit for 90 minutes wishing the cinema chair would swallow me whole.

is there a sing-along version of the fil?, I could start a new rocky horror style cult night out.

blackeyedsusan how did you get your black eyes?

Forrestgump · 18/01/2012 20:08

I also find it totally ill mannered, it isn't the time or the place. If you arn't in team Maggie stay away. How bizarre you have been invited. Perhaps just send a note declining their very considerate invitation.

JuliaScurr · 18/01/2012 20:09

OP you should do it. Remember to update the outfit by adding crack pipe and syringe

c0rnsilllk · 18/01/2012 20:10

You should do it. You owe it to your country and I want you to report back

TunipTheVegemal · 18/01/2012 20:11

I think you should do it, and the Tories in the club will be terribly polite and cordial to you. Coals of fire will be heaped on your head.

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 20:11

I was invited as you don't need to one of them to join them for the evening apparently, and I have a particularly lovely friend who happens to be a Tory.

Don't worry, i'm not going to do it, but did make myself laugh when I decided today that the only way I would go, is if i could dress as a miner.

I shall dress as the Falklands and watch it at home.

OP posts:
c0rnsilllk · 18/01/2012 20:13

how will you dress as the falklands? Grin

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 20:16

i may have to adapt my 'field of sheep outfit'. maybe add some penguins.

ravenAK · 18/01/2012 20:31

Attend in a tasteful outfit winningly accessorised by a hat on which you have perched a witty scale model of the Belgrano? Grin.

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 20:32

the hat would be worn with innocence, 'oh this old thing'.

Grumpystiltskin · 18/01/2012 20:40

YABU as it is an "invitation". Scampers back to pedant's corner

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 20:41

oh, can't I recieve an invite?

OP posts:
Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 20:42

an informal noun apparently.

I believe you can buy 'I still hate Thatcher' tshirts. You could wear one of them. Although you have to be fast, as I've heard they keep selling out of them :-)

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 18/01/2012 21:21

i like the idea of a mumsnet private viewing. much sillier.

OP posts:
seasickgal · 18/01/2012 21:31

A milk snatcher T-shirt would be most appropriate for a mumsnetter.

ChairOfTheBored · 18/01/2012 21:32

Frothy loving finding another FT fan!

Oh, and OP, YANBU - in my mind I have the balls to do that kind of thing, but only in my mind. Do. It.

And report back so I can live vicariously!

Vicky2011 · 18/01/2012 21:41

Oh Boo to all you humourless souls. Never presumably your pal knows you are somewhere to the left of Castro so as long as you didn't actually disrupt the film and embarrass her, surely just turning up in good humour in fancy dress wouldn't be an issue. You'd probably get a laugh!

Am a Tory (and I think, a fairly tame one) btw.

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/01/2012 21:55

MrsMicawber

You really should know your history before you start spouting bollocks.

Onesunnymorningin2012 · 18/01/2012 21:56

YANBU

But I'm sure they wouldn't let you in. It's a 15 certificate so miners aren't allowed.
