..to be slightly peeved at someone "stealing" a name?

I know this is really childish but I can't stop thinking about it.

In October I got a new cat. I named her after a girls' name that means a lot to me. I was really excited about the cat (I'm like the crazy cat lady out of The Simpsons!), and I told a friend of mine about her a few weeks after getting the cat, and what I'd named her and everything.

2 months later, this friend decided to get a dog. And names it the same as my cat. I jokingly commented on her FB "Hey, you can't call her that, that's my cats name! :P" and she claimed not to remember it and that the puppy's name was going to be Sally since they knew they were getting one (which was also after I'd gotten my cat.)

Now, I know it's not anything life changing, and I'm expecting to get a lot of "YABU"'s, but I feel a little peeved at it, I mean, I chose the name because it was pretty and I'd never heard anyone use it as an animal's name, and then my friend stole it Sad. It's all very Sex and the City-Charlotte-ish but you know Grin

Well I dunno, but it'd be worth a bit of wager.

Rename your cat. What's your friend's name? Or has she got a daughter?

MuckyCarpet · 18/01/2012 23:23

yabu. The cat's name clearly should be changed to Slithery.

WorraLiberty · 18/01/2012 23:26

My SIL's cat is called Sally and she's 16 years old

NoMoreMarbles · 18/01/2012 23:31

My work friend did this...she got a pup about a 2 months after I did and called her dig daisy the same as mineHmm I dont see her outside work but did bristle a bit when she said to another work friend that I had "copied" herHmm like we are 8yo or something! My dog is at least 8weeks older and we had her before she had hers and I told her that to shut her up TBH Grin

IMO YABU as you don't own the name and I am too TBH but I obv get where you are coming fromGrin

ComposHat · 19/01/2012 00:53

Sally is NOT a Cat's name.

It is like calling a Cat John, doesn't sound right.

But anyway I digress
{where was I]

Oh yeah....YABU

runningwilde · 19/01/2012 06:37

You think Sally is a pretty name? That is unreasonable...

mothmagnet · 19/01/2012 07:07

This thread in the context of Kladdkaka and SandraSue is very sweet.
Interesting to reread the OP knowing it's a younger person posting Grin

My cat has a human name, I can't imagine he'd like a fluffy one

QuintessentiallyShallow · 19/01/2012 11:07

Well, knowing it is a young person writing it, is is very eloquent and sweet. Smile

QuietTiger · 19/01/2012 11:33

I can trump "Sally" as a cat and a dogs name.

We had a Holstein cow called "Sally". DH reared her as a calf and kept her for 13 years. Therefore you are all being totally unreasonable. Sally is clearly a cows name. Grin

susiedaisy · 19/01/2012 11:44

I am absolutely Confused at the popularity of Sally for animals I never knew, I only know one Sally and she is humanSmile

OP I have a cousin called Sally and she is 35 so she had the name first and you have stolen it from her Grin

ZillionChocolate · 19/01/2012 19:00

When I was growing up we all (extended family) had cows named after us on the family farm. It was a happy time when Dave Cow gave birth to John Cow (not enough bulls to go round).

Proudnscary · 19/01/2012 19:00

I'm called Sally and so is my wife.

Lovecat · 19/01/2012 19:31

We called our cat Schrodinger. It used to annoy us when, years on, someone on telly had a cat called Schrodinger too, as everyone thought we'd copied it, despite our cat being an old gimmer and the telly one being a young thing.

My ex-SIL stole my baby girl name, which she knew was mine. Being an ignorant cah, however, she spelled it in a phonetic-chav way and when I read it I couldn't stop laughing so forgave her for being a biatch. Feel mildly sorry for her daughter, though, with the hideously mispelled name.

RabidEchidna · 19/01/2012 19:36

Lovecat I have mulder and scully but have decided any future cats should be called Schrodinger and Moses

WILL SEND WRITTEN REQUEST TO USE NAME Grin

Lovecat · 19/01/2012 21:38

:o

I met a bloke called Moses the other day. I'm sure he'd be thrilled :o
