To think that it's so much easier just having one child.

I have two daughter's. My Mum has started picking one of them up from school one night a week (alternate weeks for each girl). It's just so much easier with one child. We have had such a lovely time together. Not that we have an awful time when we are all here but just think it's so much easier with one.

Personally I think it's a lot less fun with only one.

karmathreefold · 18/01/2012 17:22

You're lucky! My second daughter was born sleeping at 37 weeks, 2 1/2 months ago, I'd love to be moaning about having two

Snakeonaplane · 18/01/2012 17:23

Yabu, if you only had one child they would want you to play with them all the time. I only have the baby home during then day whilst the others are at school so I sort of get where you're coming from but swings and roundabouts I think Smile

Chulita · 18/01/2012 17:23

It's all personal. DD has just started nursery and while I'm enjoying getting to know DS a bit more without her taking over, I'd rather have the two of them together.

Snakeonaplane · 18/01/2012 17:24

Serious lack of punctuation there, I do apologise.

Chulita · 18/01/2012 17:25

karma I'm so sorry.

Hulababy · 18/01/2012 17:25

I have one DD. We have a great time, lots of fun, lots of 1:1 time. It's great.
But having one all the time has its other side too - need to be organised at sorting out regular "play dates" and making sure she has access to her friends more, no child around as a playmate to fall back on, etc.

But life dictates I have the one and I make the very best of that - and luckily I have an amazing DD who is just fab to be around.

Sandalwood · 18/01/2012 17:25

Odd thing to think about.
Just think how easy life would be with none then.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 18/01/2012 17:26

It's nice to have some one on one time with them which you don't often get if you have 2+, especially if you have big age gaps.

Hulababy · 18/01/2012 17:26

Karma - so sorry :(

No way! You'd have to be playmate, companion and entertainer if you only had one. The best thing about having two is that they play together.

Karma - so sorry for your loss.

Whatmeworry · 18/01/2012 17:26

More are harder when they are under 4, easier when older as they entertain each other.

NormanTebbit · 18/01/2012 17:27

I think it can be more tricky when single children get older because you have to make more effort to find children for them to play with.

BettyTurnip · 18/01/2012 17:27

Well, having none is easier than one, one is easier than two and two is easier than three IME!

Sorry for your loss Karma.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 18/01/2012 17:28

I feel sorry for my DD at times. I know she's bored with just her and i sometimes.

shouldabeenwashedinajug · 18/01/2012 17:29

I'm so sorry too, Karma Sad

Re: the op - some things are easier, others not. When DD1 is at pre school I try to get all the housework/shopping/dog walking etc done as it is so much easier to do those things with only one.

But my two play together really nicely and I'd go mad if I had to entertain DD1 by herself all the time.

Maeby · 18/01/2012 17:30

Karma, that is so terrible, truly awful, and I am so sorry for you and your beautiful dd2, but that wasn't how the OP meant it. I know you're hurting and that people sounding like they are complaining must grate, but that's not the intention here.

dollywashers · 18/01/2012 17:30

So sorry for your loss Karma

I think it is undoubtably easier with one, when you usually have two or more. I think that's the point the OP is making.

I actually only have one myself, but I used to be a childminder and on those rare occassions when I didn't have any after schoolies and it was just me and DD, we used to skip home holding hands together! Simple things to do, but not so easy to do, when you are watching out for older or younger siblings all trying to get the attention of mum.

I agree , I have 1 ds 5 and love it ! I look at friends with 2 or more and can honestly say I don't envy them . Fortunately I have 2 good friends each with 1 child the same age so we have lots of socialising outside school and go on holiday together which I can appriciate is important for only children .

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 18/01/2012 17:56

Having one of them sometimes is all the lovelier because you have two. It wouldn't feel the same if you only had one.

AmberLeaf · 18/01/2012 18:06

I know what you meant OP.

I have 3 and they are lovely, but its nice sometimes to be able to spend some 1-1 with each of them. it can be hard to organise though!

Bet your mum has a nice time with the other one too!
