To not let ds go to his friend's house because she doesn't iron her clothes?

I mean, it's filthy isn't it? The children are sent to school in crumpled clothes and she walks around like a bag lady! I spend hours ironing my children's clothes and as soon as they walk in from school they need to change into lounging attire and then carefully fold their uniform over the trouser press I have in their rooms. This has saved me many more hours of ironing I can tell you!

Yet if I allow him to go to this woman's house, he'll no doubt come back with creased clothes and will doubtless have stains over it, I mean I don't think she changes their uniform more than once a week.

Hygiene and being smart is very important to me and whilst I don't mind my children attending houses of similar children who are smartly dressed, I don't particularly want them influenced by slatternly waifs and strays. Obviously this is not the child's fault and that's not what I'm saying, but if my children see that they can get away with looking like homeless people, then they start playing up at home.

I could tell her what my expectations are but I just don't think she would take any notice, so aibu in not allowing ds to go?

I actually think that anyone who posts on this thread should have pics on their profile showing the piles of immaculate ironing and the homemade lavender water in a Victorian glass diffuser.

If they fail to show that we can ignore them.

God's honest truth:

My ex fiance's mother has admitted to these things:

  1. Before going on holiday, she got everybody in the car, vacuumed up to the front door, stepped outside and left the vacuum just inside so that nobody stepped on the carpet before leaving.

  2. She wakes up at night in a panic because she forgot to do the dusting BEFORE the vacuuming. Also she lies awake listing the things she must clean tomorrow.

  3. She once grabbed a mug from a guest's hands just as he finished drinking so that she could wash it up right away

  4. She washes up crockery before putting it all... in the dishwasher. Not just rinsing.. actual washing.

  5. She had a new kitchen fitted and the worktop was a very expensive wooden affair. She will not put down coasters, wooden mats or other surface protectors in case they mark the wood. Because of this people can't put down their cup or glass in case that marks the wood too. This is awkward unless number 3 happens. She also will not put hot plates of food on the surface. In actual fact, the surface is rather useless.

How dreadful to have to iron - haven't you turned on your Aga yet! You just follow Mary Berry and put the folded clothes on the simmering plate lid on the Aga Grin

I have home made lavender water in a Victorian glass diffuser!!!!

DD made the lavender water and the diffuser was my grandmother's. It sits on the windowsill looking rather cloudy now actually as it's been there a while and we forget about it so never use it pretty.

Have laundered curtains for nursery, should I iron them, or will they dry uncrumpled?

You might have to ban me, I've cleaned skirting boards in true nesting style:

  1. dry dusted them
  2. wiped over with hot soapy water using lovely Eco smelling multiuser face product.

I have a big list today.

silentcatastrophe · 21/01/2012 22:36

I use sugar soap, neat, for that sort of thing! Cleans up artwork nicely tooGrin

Surely people iron the crotch of their knickers. Now please....
